    I needed exactly this. Great content, well produced. Thank you for keeping up the grind all these years. I hope your channel skyrockets! You deserve a gift form the algorithm gods.

    This video was first available on PeerTube only. If you wonder why - it's because CZcams would break the video stream during reencoding every time. I had to transcode the video to VP9 and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling rather than 4:4:4 that I work in to make it work this time. I had that problem before on CZcams, but it was never happening every time. I've reported it to the CZcams technical support, but got no response. I guess I'll try 4:2:0 next time, since it's already what CZcams (and any videos streaming platform) use. I export my videos in 4:4:4 (full color information -looks great on software UIs), hoping that one day I'll be able to offer a streaming option to have that work for consumers. maybe I could hos a custom PeerTube server with altered video encoding settings so it'd server 4:4:4 video if you wanted. IDK. Anyway - I'm archiving my videos in pretty much lossless quality for the future, even if you can't watch them like that today.

      There aren't any cameras that record real 444. Nor are there any displays that can show it. The best you'll get is 422 12bit raw in the prosumer market. And if you have fifty to one hundred thousand dollars or so, maybe 422 16bit. You'd still have the display problem though. Real 444 remains in the realm of genuine analog film.

      @unfa00  Před 2 lety +1

      @@ParanoidFactoid Well, computers display everything in 4:4:4 - that's why software UIs look so jarring in 4:2:0, especially when you capture that and zoom right in to magnify the degraded color. I rarely see CZcams channels doing good quality screen capture.
      That's why I record in 4:4:4. And sine my camera takes 4K, if I downscale that to 1080, I get 4:4:4 as well. Though for livestreams I use 720p60 for the camera, as my USB HDMI capture only does 60 FPS in that mode. Well, it saves some USB bandwidth I guess.

      @unfa00  Před 2 lety +1

      @@ParanoidFactoid BTW, I am surprised, though with the resolution it really doesn't make much sense to push for 4:4:4 in camera footage - I don't think the final result would have a noticeable difference. Unless you have super sharp detail of 1-pixel size in there. That's not what cameras are for I guess :D
      I wish we would have some video codec that'd dynamically do chroma subsampling so that it can preserver the software UI sharpness, while saving data o my face, where that doesn't mater as much.

      @@unfa00 Displays are changing pretty quickly, especially with the advent of 10bit HDR oled. But on the sensor side, it's been all resolution upgrades all the time. With little upgrade in color rendition. Even with commercial digital. Prores 444 is really just for scanned film, because scanners will capture that. Quad resolution downscaled does help somewhat, especially if you're acquiring with 10bit or 12bit to begin with. But I think unless you're color grading and need the extra data to push color exposure, or wearing striped clothing likely to cause moire patterns, it's not worth the trouble. Still, your project and your standards. I'm here for the sound design stuff. BTW: I'm running Ubumtu 20.04 and primarily using Davinci Resolve and Blender. Am very interested in your sound design vids. And found your ardour tut vids very helpful.

    There are a lot of YTers discussing synth music. Not too many sfx sound design. There's a lot of crossover between games and film. And I see you have a couple other prior vids on this topic too which I had somehow missed. Very useful. Thanks for your insight.

      Thanks! I'm glad I can help - yeah, there isn't too much information about sound effect production with synthesizers on aCZcams. Maybe hopefully my videos can fill in the gap there. And while doing so - also promote open-source software :)

    there is a very interesting open source DAW Tracktion

    • @unfa00
      @unfa00  Před 2 lety +1

      Traction Waveform is *not open-source* . It's *freeware* . It does dun natively on Linux and even Raspberry Pi, and that's awesome, but that's not Free (or Libre) Software, despite them calling it a "Free DAW" (it's only free of payment, not free s ftware as GNU defines it).
      The DAW's engine is open-source - that is true. But an engine (back-end) without a user interface (front-end) is useless for artists.
      For a helpful explanation on the difference between free software and freeware, I can recommend this video:

    I installed Zyn-Fusion via KX-Studio but it still feels like it is unfinished.

      Yes, these are cross-compatible. Assuming Vital didn't change too much since the release.
