- Created by unfa, Yo Soy Freeman and KeVs404.
A gameplay preview of a test/dev level in SNMD, a unique upcoming single-player abstract 3D racing game. This is work in progress and stuff will probably change a lot before it's 1.0.
Built using Godot 4 and a fully open-source toolchain. - Hudba
Hi there! I'm freeman, i did the gameplay mechanics! I just wanted to thank you people for the nice words!
This is really beautiful! Love how calm and distraction free it is.
speeed, lovely!
Nice! It has Trailblazer and Marble Madness vibes, with some Super Monkeyball thrown in.
I'm also getting some Tron and Tony Hawk vibes for good measure.
It is pretty neat.
Thanks! I'm sure the idea isn't new, though I'm sure we have a unique take on it and - it's made with 100% FOSS :)
Really loving the gravity shift mechanic - plenty of opportunities to make fiendish jumps, or well hidden shortcuts.
Are you planning on making it a commercial game? I'd buy it as long as it is available on Linux. And knowing you, it'll be Linux exclusive 😁
Thanks! We're not completely sure yet, but it's a possibility well make it a commercial (albeit cheap) game on Itch.io :) That'd be a very different experience for the Liblast devs, and I think it'd be worth doing just to see how it's like! Plus a later (think: a year or more) free/open-source release shouldn't be a problem either.
@@unfa00 Gotta eat. Best wishes to you.
Godot rules!
Indeed!
looks very cool!
Reminds me of this iPhone game called "Aerox" I used to play ten years ago
what a cool game! very nice.
Thanks!
Cool.
Looks good
wonderful concept and very smooth gameplay! Curious what kind of puzzles and crazy parkour can be utilized with these mechanics. Also - good job on the sound design. Keep it up, Unfa!
Nice! I was looking for a game like this just recently. I really like the metallic sound of the ball compared to another game I remember where I think it was supposed to be wooden
Thanks! The full name of the game is "Super Nuclear Marble Deluxe" (yes, we're having a laugh), so the metallic sound seemed more appropriate to me :D
The sound effects are on point
Thank you! Made by yours truly using 100% FOSS - mainly Ardour and Vitalium :)
@@unfa00nice! Now I’m sitting here thinking about if it’s possible to program the sound to echo off the walls differently depending your surroundings. (Aka programming how sound waves bounce around and into the “camera”)
@@unfa00also do you have any videos showing how you create a sound effect like that? That’s a pretty satisfying sound and I’m sure it took a while for you to get it perfect
Of course the sounds are 🤌🤌🤌
I am not sure what do you mean :D
@@unfa00 that is the symbol for a chef's kiss - so of course the sounds are amazing 😁
Ah, thanks! On my phone the emoji doest show, and I just see an X in a box :D
This looks like so much fun to play! Is there somewhere we can try it out? The SNMD link on Friction Ball's codeberg page is broken
Thanks! I made the repository private for now, because we aren't sure if we want to make the game commercial (probably about as expansive as a coffee). So for now the game isn't playable publicly.
@@unfa00 Perfectly understandable. If ya'll decide to open it in the future, or perhaps use a business model similar to Ardour, I'm certain there'll be plenty of people willing to support it (myself included). Either way, really excited to see more!
@@gagelara7620 Hi there! I'm freeman! The game will almost surely be open sourced after some time, we still want to give back to the community! This is mostly a way for us to learn the process of a commercial release and offer people a way of support us. All the work we do as a team is usually open source and free, and my personal work is also free and open source, so i don't have any income and a bit of support could help us a lot to keep doing free stuff. But as i said, the game will eventually be open source, love to share too much and we are not that good making money haha
reminds me of neverball and nerverputt on Linux.
someone was busy
Oh yes! :D
@unfa🇺🇦 i know it's off-topic but what about audio interfaces in Linux? Unfortunately not every audio interface has Linux drivers. I'm not able to find drivers fo my RME Fireface UC USB audio interface, i look on RME forums already and seems that there's only an outdated reverse engineering project with hints on how to build your own Linux driver for the UC using the Windows driver, but no one had tried that since there's no driver around and my audio interface is not class compilant, too bad 'cause for Windows and macOS there's super updated drivers, last one is from July of this year, if someone has any idea, please let me know, thanks.
Hey, I'd recommend asking that in the #hardware channel in my community chat. You'll have a much better chance of success there.

thank you@@unfa00
Hi do you use Yabridge for music production if yes
I am using ubuntu and I am having Issues with Yabridge I use reaper for music production and
I am facing Cranking noise and also
and also when I play it continuously goes with a low latency an also the some breaking sounds
please
Can you provide any advice for that??
Hey! I'm not using any proprietary plugins so I don't use Yabridge, However - in my community chat you can ask people who do use it and even talk to the software creator, Robbert.

Hey man, we miss you! Can we have an ardour 8 review? plssssssssss
Hey! Thanks! I'd need to give it a swirl first - I generally lag behind new releases for production because of bad regressions I've had in the past, messing with my work. And I haven't had free time left to just play with Ardour 8 lately. I have some video ideas, but they are a bit different, and I feel like Ardour's YT channel is doing a nice job on its own (go check it out!) plus my community chat provides all answers you might be seeking :D Sorry for not delivering on this front - I've been making these tutorials for so long - I think I want to do something a bit different. And my health knocking me down gave me time and space to reflect on that.
I want to see others pick up the mantle and become voices of FOSS audio as well! I want to save my limited capacity to do stuff nobody could do but me, and I feel like my community chat fills the gap of bringing up new software and it's updates very well. LAM keeps unearthing awesome unseen FOSS audio plugins and other software - many others do that as well!
If you're not there, try it!
I've been hard at work to create a kind and welcoming space there, and I am very proud of it!
