    What kind of procedures and documentation do you use for OS and Software updates? Are certain software dependencies like Elgato Stream Deck and Bit Focus Companion upgrade procedures different than mere updates? Any Back up procedures? Or can you point me to somebody who does this?

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford Před 25 dny

      For the Stream Deck hardware, I just update via Elgato's native software. Then for Companion, export a back up of your configuration, then just boot up the new version. There's not usually a stream deck hardware update that makes it incompatible with Companion, but if there is then it's usually updated by the Companion team within two weeks.

    Have you looked at Canon XF605? It's basically the CR-N700 in a camcorder body so it has lots of function buttons/switches when you operate manually and network control when you operate remotely. Bonus is that it also works with the Canon Multi Camera iPhone app, which does not support Canon's PTZs. The c400's visuals will blow the XF605 out of the water, but I personally think the XF605 is better for live b/c it's a lot more flexible. Cheaper, too--I've seen them used for less than $4000 on B&H. I love mine.

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford Před 26 dny

      I had a Sony TRV900 back in 02, and used a Z1 in 08 on some productions, but I've always been in the "detachable-lens" realm for production work since the 5DmkII days... These days it's a mix of C300's/C200s for live. You're right that camcorders are certainly a lot cheaper/ more for your money for live production, particularly given the inbuilt zoom range. But I've just personally invested a lot more in cinema cameras/lenses for production work that I carry over into live settings, and the PTZs are an incredible return on investment with reduced labor/crew. If I get the c400 I'll probably need to add a 24-105 2.8 for live/event work... (or 17-120 😅) and even then it won't have the full zoom range of a camcorder.

    • @GwenPark
      @GwenPark Před 25 dny

      @@davidjoshuaford Definitely tradeoffs with camcorders vs. cine cameras! Looking forward to you getting a c400 + expensive glass (or REALLY expensive glass 😂) one of these days. BTW, thanks for your videos and streams! Your chennel's awesome.

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford Před 29 dny

      Good question - they've changed it now to "internal: Custom Variable: set with expression". Choose the variable you want to change, and then if you want to modify that same variable, add that same variable back into the "Expression" field and then modify it.. i.e. "$(internal:custom_value) + 1" would add 1 to the a variable called "value"

      I wouldn't buy it again... cost me an additional $180 to have it repaired. Tech said there's a design flaw that makes it easy to blow a circuit if unplugging a phantom powered mic. Since the repair it has been working ok.

      Hey! Glad you found it helpful. I have a livestream about that router in my feed, and I’ll do some more livestreams on the GL.iNet routers in the upcoming weeks/months. As far as I'm aware the HyperDeck arranges the files alphabetically. You could jump in over FTP using a tool like CyberDuck to rename the files. I usually add an 01, 02, 03 etc to the start of my filenames in preproduction for this reason.

      The ATEM Mini can't send its Mulitview out via USB-C, so the best way would be to connect the HDMI Out to a UVC converter (HDMI-in, USBC out), and then the Multiview will show up as a video source in your computer apps. @@davidjoshuaford My situation is quite different zooming in on a speaker podium 35 feet away in a dim auditorium with can lights and windows. So sometimes the contrast is not enough and speakers face is not really sharp. Probably due to the small sensor size. I am using 1080 p over NDI. I tried 4k and it seemed to clog up the network. Maybe I can try again with the new iMac M1.

      @@davidjoshuaford one problem I have is the time setting for zoom speed always resets to 2 seconds each time the camera is powered up. I like it on 15 seconds. The presets don’t save that setting. I have to manually set it with canon app or stream deck each time.

    My goodness you have been soooo busy. But you got every model covered, at least of the ones most heavily used in the consumer/prosumer/pro spaces. Kudos! 👍

      Thanks Eric! A big job to consolidate it all within the page limits, but happy with how it has come together.

    Hi David! I already wondered why this episode is no 70, but you introduce it as 62 😅 Looking forward to the follow ups of this one. In particular, it would be great if you could not just test the tracking while seated, but also walking around. I have been trying with two of my CR-N300 cameras, but I am very disappointed with the results. Tracking is usually quite panicky and abrupt. I was hoping I could one day use it at a conference, where one camera would follow a person on stage. Then I could justify the investment. But with the current tracking quality, I can't use if for commercial work. That said, in my testing I haven't been able to test it in properly 'event' lit situations. So maybe I should rent a studio for half a day and do some proper tests with my third camera. But if you have the opportunity to test as well, that would be awesome! Also: it's amazing you are working on Companion integration! The browser interface was the other doubt I had about this system, but it is truly great to learn that might change. Thanks in advance! And lastly: have you ever looked into other auto tracking solutions for the Canon cameras? Last year I tried Polymotion Chat from Mark Roberts Motion Control. On paper it works much better, as it uses an Nvidia GPU on your computer to analyse the camera feed. So in theory it's much more powerful. And it works with Visca and NDI, so you are not limited to one camera brand only. On the other hand: you need a very beefy Windows computer, so it also is not cheap and it needs extra hardware because it doesn't run in-camera. And I found out there is an issue specifically with the CR-N300, where it seems to be continuously correcting the pan angle ever so slightly. So were in for a challenge when it comes to auto tracking. Thanks for your research though!
