    Nice overview! Just a question: what kind of commands are you launching with Vicreo? I have it installed but I have not find any particular use.
    BTW, final screen link to the video appears on top of your face. Maybe you could move it to the right a bit :)

      Good call on the placement! VICREO is just one function at the moment to help switch between H2R and VLC - see here czcams.com/video/rrJY2_cfUUw/video.html

    Hey David, could you take this same approach to remote switching from an entirely different venue? (so remote control of the ATEM over the internet)
    For example, what if you set up multiple Atem/Companion systems at a bunch of venues so that they can record and stream, but you give yourself the option to take control over their systems if there is ever an issue. You could also send the Multiview to yourself by taking a HDMI split and either using a separate encoder to sent SRT to yourself via OBS, or you they could have a laptop with Zoom open and use a Camlink to make the Multiview the webcam source.
    I know this would require some specific network setup with correct subnets and potentially a VPN (good opportunity for a sponsor video) to get everything set up, but I haven't really found anyone that has shown how to do this kind of set up with ATEM/Companion.

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford  Před rokem

      Hey KLRCat, yes you can - I know people who use a VPN to remote switch. I haven’t tried it myself so can’t speak to the ins and outs of it, but if you know your way around VPNs give it a go!

    Awesome work, congratulations!
    It would be great if your tutorial has a software based stream deck such as touchportal or other software. There is more flexibility and scalability with software based solution. Is this something you would consider doing?

    Thank you for your detailed video. I have a question that hasn't been answered before: Can you use the ATEM Mini/Pro to start and stop recording e.g. the BMPCC 6K Pro to the internal CF card? It would be very kind if you answer that. Thanks and greetings from Cologne, Jürgen

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford  Před rokem

      Yes you can - the ATEM software has a checkbox to record in cameras when you record on the ATEM. You need hdmi cables connected to supported BMD cameras to do this as it doesn’t work with third party cameras

    Hi David, how do you manage to have both world (Companion and the stream deck app) working together ? I saw in all your tutorials that you had a "stream deck button" fully working inside your companion setup. When I try to have both of them working, my two streamdeck are not recognised and Companion asks me to shut down the SD app to "see" them :-(
    by the way, thanks a thousand times for your great work. I would never have been so far in my atem use without your videos

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford  Před 3 lety

      Under "More Actions..." in the native Stream Deck software there's a Companion plugin. Then you can run both, and you can choose if you want Companion buttons to be dynamic or fixed. You also need to be on at least Companion 2.1.2.

    Is there any kind of wireless hardware button device that can control the inputs on the ATEM remotely? Phone is cool, but requires looking at the screen, I'd like to do it by feel while looking at the camera but walking around the studio

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford  Před rokem

      An iPad (or other tablet) is the simplest execution. I'd still use multiple Stream Deck XLs when seated at a desk and Direct/Switching a show for the tactile buttons, but for walking around the studio, an iPad web browser accessing the Companion emulator on the network is going to be more lightweight and reliable than a Pi/StreamDeck/battery combo. If you check out my latest livestreams, you'll see I'm running the show via an iPad czcams.com/users/livet-FnQ3mL7Ao?feature=share&t=135

    David - does companion AND the ATEM control software run on the Rasberry Pi to control the ATEM? Or is the control software not needed because companion talks directly to the ATEM? Thanks, I am a total noob at this, but having a tiny dedicated comp and a stream deck to do the great macro control processes would be super helpful to me... thanks! for all you are doing.

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford  Před 3 lety +1

      Companion speaks directly to the ATEM (hence the need for the target IP in the ATEM instance), but I have to check if the ATEM macros can be triggered without the ATEM software running.

    Thanks

    • @davidjoshuaford
      @davidjoshuaford  Před 2 lety +1

      In this instance you'd need a phone or tablet's web browser pointed to Companion's Emulator address, and then tap through the Menu > Settings > Tally to bring up the Tally page. Note that this is more of an in-a-pinch solution, rather than long term for multiple cameras.

      Yes - I know other people run Companion on them. I actually just had my Pi 4 arrive yesterday, so will be testing moving Companion over to the Pi to free up my Mac, and to have the control built into the rig shown in this video.

      @@davidjoshuaford hi David, great job!
      I have not seen any companionpi build using the beta so some components will not work such as delta changes of sound volume (of obvious reasons)
      However I have experienced some challenges using eg. chroma bottom left - button which results in that companion crashes. Using sudo system to start companion makes it up and running again (without rebooting Pi)
      I have tried to trigger each “sub macro” one by one and it seems to work which puzzles me. Have just made minor tests.
      Timing problems?
      Please reach out to me if I can support you further.

      @@mikaelsvennungsson I am using a Pi running 2.1.2 Companion. I have imported pages only from the David profile as I am using a 15 keys SD. I have also experienced lockups mostly caused by 'internal command' actions such as renaming a button which do not map properly when importing pages ( default to page 0, item 0) . Thanks for sudo restart command suggestion, I have been doing hard power cycles, hoping my sd card survives.
