Star Trek: Enterprise Season 1 Episode 14 Sleeping Dogs
Unlike most shows, the cast of Enterprise never changed from start to finish. They had it right from the beginning, and the relationships and interactions were solid throughout. It's actually not easy to know what's 'normal' for Vulcans, or how they're supposed to act. Of course, Spock, with whom we're most familiar, was half human, and seemed to feel compelled to be 'More Vulcan than Vulcan.'. They gave T'Pol multiple issues along the way, as she had no such inner conflict. When we first meet Spock's father, there's a preexisting tension between them, but he's still an amazing diplomat. And, again, they held off too long about revealing why most Vulcans in this show don't seem to be acting quite right. Still, I think this lady's pretty damned cool!
@@phillipstory2523 I agree. The cast was solid from day one. Tpol really grows a lot during the first season too.
Another great fun stream. Great comics and great conversation. Clobby would be very pleased. Cheers JMan and Sean
thank you!
What’s the chronological placement of this story in the overall Superman narrative is this comic / story a separate run of stories from what is going on in absolute power?
I have no clue to be honest! Im just reading it as it comes out! LOL
netx week you will say the same shit.close you channel please et get some sex
Great episode title, as well! I personally enjoyed seeing this bunch of throwbacks finding a just and humane solution without 'Counselor Camel-toe' (thanks, RMB!) around to give a running commentary on the creature's 'feelings.'
I totally agree they should put 4 Yaira (or any other title) 20 something pages per year instead of one 96 pages comic.
Guys, I absolutely love your podcast on Legion. If I’m a make a suggestion, stay focused on the Legion when you’re doing the Legion and possibly create a new culture to discuss everything else.
we do try! but we get side tracked! also, not sure if you know, but we lost our legion expert to a heart attack. it was sad. he added a lot of insight!
One of my favorite issues! Purchased it at the local Magic-Market (I.e., convenient store) off the comic rack, and had Grell and Shooter both sign it at this year‘s Heroes Con in Charlotte NC.
WOW! thats awesome! i gotta meet both of those greats!
By all means, go for the views; it's not your fault this sucks! As I mentioned before, I haven't seen any of the post-buyout TV shows, good or bad, but you are one of a select number of content creators whose word I trust implicitly on what not to bother with, wether or not we always agree (probably a dumb question, but you did see RetroBlasting's megavideo about the last Indiana Jones movie, right?). Everything of Disney SW that I've seen or heard detailed analysis of has borrowed liberrally or outright stolen from the EU (the Force Witches, in this case) that they declared nonexistent at the outset. Fortunately, my mind has its own peculiar de-canonizing tendencies (I still don't acknowledge Jason Todd trying to steal the tires off the Batmobile; Dick gave him the costume), so keep right on saying what sucks; this Legionnaire stands with you!
I'm nervous about reading this one. I have not enjoyed an X-Men comic in years.
@@danw4490 neither have i.
It was a good start, I liked the new Alaska setting & team dynamic. First X book I've read for couple of years, the Krakoa stuff kinda got dull after a while.
@@paulbowler5345 I agree!
Oh no ! Who could have foreseen ......... Thanks for the review JMan, watching this crap so I don't have to.
Word!!!
The longer this show goes on the less I know what this show is about. What am I even supposed to expect? Who am I rooting for? Why did they devote two entire episodes to a flashback that could’ve been done in 10 minutes

A piece of entertainment can be objectively bad, BUT still have some redeeming qualities that endear an audience to it. The Acolyte is devoid of anything close to charm. It is irredeemably bad.
I like Highlander 2 and I actually like all the Hellraiser movies!
@@danw4490 hahaha. Yes!!
Which version of Highlander 2? The original 1991 theatrical cut? The Renegade Version? The Special Edition for DVD/Blu Ray that has the blue CGI Shield? 😉😁 It's probably still 100x better than any ep of The Acolyte.
@@justjoe4775 I like the renegade with red sky. BUT I’m ok with them all
The fun and games are over. This is hilarious! Great review!
My DVR seems to be dropping the ball a bit, lately; sorry! I always think of Rene Auberjonois as Father Mulcahy in MASH (the original film).
I don't think I've seen this one, yet. Clint Howard played a Ferrngi?
@@phillipstory2523 yes!! He was great.
Remember the scene in Crocodile Dundee, where it's made to appear that the kangaroo is exacting retribution against the drunken hunters? Not exactly the same thing, no, but these guys are a long way from their own ecosystem, and can hardly claim to be merely preventing the habitation from being overrun. I don't care for extremists on either side trying to excuse their childish behavior; Archer did right to level the field without eradicating the issue once and for all.
The guy was a douche. They accept that they can't control their physiology at certain times, but the a-hole chose to violate her without thinking or caring about any consequences. One of the best TNG episodes focused on Troi had a premise like this; I think it was called A Man of the People.
The very definition of Frenemy😂❤
Not watching this, or anything to do with Disneypus, but I was an avid reader of the Expanded Universe pre-4.4B; there were some attempts at smearing the Jedi-Sith lines (under the 'point-of-view umbrella) after the NJO series, but the Sith were generally acting out of self-interest or narcissism, if not outright evil. And yes, the SW saturation seriously hampers the storytelling. I was around for the vintage era, and can attest that the real magic of Star Wars was in anticipation. That's not an opinion; there were three years between movies, no home video, and of course, the Holiday Special to really whet the appetite (Lucas wasn't the only one wanting to corner the sledgehammer market). Apart from that, you had the toys and the Marvel comics. That's it. Whatever George has degraded into, he knew how to work the audience back then.
This one is definitely more character-driven than any other factor; it plays almost like a Twilight Zone episode (like the one where the astronauts thought they were stranded on an astrroid). Pacing and timing is excellent, as well, since so much is going on that they don't know about, as everyone is supposed to be dead. Forgive me for asking, but is it this episode, or when they were stranded on the comet, where Reed totally shatters character by expressing his fondness for T'Pol's behind?
I don't know how I missed recording this; I'll have to make sure to catch it next time it comes around. I'm not crazy about how the Vulcan authorities act here, either. It's always been assumed that they haven't changed for thousands of years, but, as we found out later, some 'Pharisees' have apparently crept in and whitewashed Surak's philosophy.
I think I've seen this one once, and it was a while back. It's too bad the show was cut short before exploring the escalating tension between the two powers leading up to the debut of the Klingons in the Original Series.
The premise behind this makes me think of that OS episode, where the three disembodied aliens want to use the bodies of the crewmembers to make sure the universe doesn't have to get along without them. In this pre-Prime Directive era, it's important for them to come to the right conclusion without T'Pol's nagging ('What he means, Spock, is that anyone with that much power just can't resist the temptation to play God.' 'THANK you, Doctor, I was able to derive the meaning.'). Again, 100% agree with you on Phlox. After what those other three did to the concept of 'doctor,' doctor-patient relations, and medical treatment in general, it's nice to see Phlox accepting limits on what he can and should do. And, unlike the others, he's not human (I know the one on Voyager acted more like Data, but he was based on a human template); he really works at it to gain everyone's trust.
Missed this one, somehow.
I actually like the overarching storyline running through episodes, myself (again, I thought the Third Season was awesome), but if it's going to hinge on one factor, time travel is a bad choice. It's the ultimate deux ex machina. About the only time manipulation story that I thought was really well done was that Twilight Zone episode with Richard Erdman.
You are really one dimensional in your thinking, and just wrong. To say either they are good or bad goes against even the first Star Wars movies. Look at Darth Vader character ark. No one wants a black and white good or bad Star Wars. There’s no genuine character development from that approach. To be honest listening to your review we can tell you are not qualified to give a review on films. You literally said you don’t care about the lore lol
The colorist is doing an incredible job with both these great artists. The dialog makes me hear the cartoon voices. Hama is killing it. This is the only book I can't wait for the next one. Also ultramega is finally coming back. Recommend.
@@chloe59k love this series.
My lcs got this week late. Still the best comic coming out. 9 out of 10 just because the last artwork was so good its hard to rate this one the same
this dude's background stack is as good as a PhD
Oh dang I didn’t realize Maxxxine came out. I watched Pearl first. Then X. I liked Pearl more.
Where can I find live action versions of this?
of this comic?
One of the most annoying things, to me, about The Next Generation was that prevailing pomposity, from the first episode on, about how advanced and 'evolved' they were from the prehistoric proto-hominids of the Late-Twentieth Century. Granted, it was the 80s, and had been a long time since Star Trek was a regular series, but I always felt that someone was missing the point. This episode, which shows humans still struggling with their baser instincts while trying to be part of a larger society, is a great deal more accurate. Also good to see supporting characters fleshed out and subjected to moral dilemmas early on. And Phlox is a great character! No disloyalty to TOS in his being your favorite; he inspires trust and camaraderie immediately, as a doctor should.
phlox is so awesome!!
People are complaining about show but long as u keep that subscription your supporting it and making it money
I thought this will be about Superman #17 as in original one, issue that inspired All-Star Superman #11
@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz great issue!! But this was an old video. It was a different series.
@@JMan77 I understand
This is why Archer is such a great leader and character. They're not yet sworn not to interfere with other cultures, but the issue is once again raised of their responsibility when someone else is doing so. Archer wants to do as little damage as possible himself in stopping the damage of others; he has no interest in being a hero or being lauded as a savior, and he doesn't even care that the Vulcans are scrutinizing his every move, waiting for him to screw up. He does what needs to be done, and moves on. Period.
yeah he is awesome as captain!
Also, come on the Jedi have been even stupider than this. Remember episode 2 where they for some reason decide to fight in the arena? 200 freaking Jedi died to mace windu’s bad planning
Nah this is easily the best episode and it’s still bad but it does give us some of the best choreography ever in the franchise And tbh, lightsabers injury criticisms now are so dumb now (except maybe reva in kenobi) because literally no one has any issues with it with maul or Anakin suffering severe injuries and living but now it’s a big issue?
This episode could have taken place in like 5 well paced minutes. Nothing happened. The little rat boy knows it’s the evil twin, but the JEDI MASTER can’t figure it out.
These reviews are hilarious! Thanks J-Man.
Yeah this show is really stupid and makes no sense in my opinion.
Sorry I missed out, this time! Hope I can catch the next one; #215 was the first Legion story I ever read.
@@phillipstory2523 no worries. That’s awesome about 215
I kind of have to agree with T'Pol, here: 'Ooh, a comet! Big whoop.' This might be a good time to explain that I'm catching or catching up on some of these as we go along. H and I TV shows all five Real Treks back-to-back six nights a week from 8 pm to 1 am, and they're on Season 2 now (I record it and watch it the next morning over breakfast). The last rotation was the first time I was able to see the entire Third Season, which I enjoyed immensely, so I hope we can agree to disagree when you come to that point. I totally agree with you on the Vulcan disposition here. The arrogance is to be expected, but they're too frequently way out of character (spoiler alert: we eventually learn they're not what they're supposed to be. I think the show made a mistake in waiting so long to clear that up). '
Shran is one of the most instantly likable characters in all of ST lore, this episode's storyline notwithstanding, and the first really good recurring character for this show (the Vulcan ambassador is a total d*ck, doesn't count). He's like Harry Mudd or the Klingon Captain in the Tribbles episode; we don't know yet if he's really a 'bad' guy. There is clearly the beginning of grudging mutual respect, as with Kirk and the Romulan Captain in their first episode.
What's everybody's problem with the theme song? Do they not know that The Original Series theme had lyrics? They just weren't included in the broadcast.
i remember!
I agree with you rogue is the worst doctor who episode of all time
That tension between Trip and T'Pol was pretty apparent from the beginning; much as I love this show, we were never going to have the true dynamic with the Main Three here that just developed so naturally in the Original Series.
