I can see how some would not like this episode but it is fun. The Vulcans do not feel out of character for Vulcans. We have seen these flash back types before that are completly off but this one works. Also if you took the trek out of the episode it holds up as a good sci fi story of aliens trying to fit on Earth. A solid entry.

Did I hear that right? Did T'Pol actually hoax Archer and Trip? She seemed a bit coy at the end, leaving the table. I don't suggest that she made up the whole thing, but it did sort of come across as a 'tall tale.'
As good as the story is, the best thing in this episode for me is the strengthening of the relationship for the Main Three of this series. It's kind of a shame that the romantic link between T'Pol and Trip prevented a real triumvirate, as the Original Series had, but it was still a great moment when Archer and T'Pol expressed absolute trust in each other.
Personally, I don't see anything in this series as 'violating canon,' simply because real ST has never been about rigid conformity; each successive film and series played a bit loose with the 'sacred text' (or Historical Documents, as they said in Galaxy Quest). When I used to spend a lot of time at B.. Dalton and Waldenbooks (yeah, I'm old), I would flip through a series of books called Best of Trek, which if I remember correctly, were excerpts from a fanzine. It was a series of essays by fan writers, or just fans, on what they loved about the show/movies, and one of the most overriding themes was theorizing on continuity (like how Khan recognized Chekov). Some of the attempts at tying up 'loose ends' made for damned hilarious reading!
