    How did you scratch the base coat? With the Weberend Aid that you used, you should stipple the render using a burn hole roller?

  • @ZizouTheKing22

    why do the skimming? Cant you just plaster over the tape and screws, then sand and seal?

    I thought the point of monocuche, was you only needed to apply one coat? But you did two layers?

    Thank you Ryan, very good video. I too am a decorator though I've only got a year to retirement. That's 50 yrs so as you can imagine I've cursed a few plasterers 😅 Just one point if I may? When I started my apprenticeship in 1976 plasterers would polish their newly applied plaster until it shone. As the years have passed by this part of the work has given way to more speed, less quality. Its not a criticism, its a fact. Some walls are now so hot because they havnt been polished. That means, no matter how thin the mist coat, the paint sets quickly on the face of the plaster. So you buy your nice new house and think, oh paper would be finish it off nicely. So everything's nicely decorated and you live with your nice new paper for a few years. Tastes change, kids grow up, time to change your wallpaper. Only you start to remove it but find it comes off with patches of the emulsion stuck to the back of the paper. Paper removed and the substrate is now covered in scars all over your walls. So your painter then has to scrape off loose, blistered emulsion then flush fill the bare patches to leave a smooth surface. If it's really bad you have to advise your client to let you cross line the walls. If its in a right state? Get a plasterer to skim the walls. 😂 Nice job though Ryan. 👏

    Would you use the same method with insulated plasterboard?

    • @ryanseeley
      @ryanseeley Před 8 dny

      Yes, as long as the insulation board was paper backed and not foil backed. You would use the same method with the addition of adding a couple of fixings per board to hold on case of a fire, as far as I'm aware

  • @theendoftimesministry

    I had the council skim my living room walls. I think they just slapped one coat on and left a lot of dips and missed spots.

    I don’t get why you need a serrated straight edge to highlight any low or dipped areas because a normal straight edge shows those issues?

    • @ryanseeley
      @ryanseeley Před 28 dny

      While that is true, a serrated straight edge also allows any trapped air pockets to be released from behind the render

      @@ryanseeley ahh i see so it is best practice to use one with these through colour renders?

  • @JDRED_Wallis
    @JDRED_Wallis Před měsícem

    This is not how I was shown, you dont need stilts, use a crate and kick it along, wall isnt that high, and you arent doing the ceiling, you do not start at the edges, this leaves lumps in the edges and make the cornering harder to get even , you start from the bottom up, sort of like a lower case r shape. Or a c shape, up and down, as much as you can cover with a full arm length, You do the edges without using more plaster from the board, and you use the plaster from the wall excess that will be there. You trowel in all different directions never repeating the same pattern to get it as smooth and even as possible. Hard trowel is straight up and down and then left to right,. Also remove the skirting before you start,

    Hi mate....is it normal to leave the gap at the top ? I will be attempting this but wasn't sure how to lift the boards up tight to ceiling ...but you have a clear gap ?

    • @ryanseeley
      @ryanseeley Před měsícem

      Usually an average size wall would be smaller than a board so you wouldn't have a gap at the top. This wall was a bit taller than usual and so I needed to add the strip at the top

    Great video Ryan. 💯 Its always pleasing to see the work being done and the final results. I would just add one note for people willing to carry out this work. When using British Gypsum (Thistle MultiFinish) which is the one you are using, the first coat IDEALLY should be 1mm thick and the second coat, another 1mm. Maximum total thickness should be no more than 3mm to avoid cracks. 💥💫

    this is just dabbing. dotting is creating a plum surface with dots with quickset mud, let them harden and then dab and then push your boards against the dots so they are plum. but todays technique is just dabbing and using your leveler and tapping. should be called dab n tap in our era.

    Each coat I'm questioning why more.. 1st was glass, I as a beginner only tend to do one coat and then a water finish once maybe twice. Only house based but works for me. Do these extra coats/routines add anything I should be considering doing? I like how you brush your edges. my old man always told me to do that and never seen another social media plasterer do this, so glad I'm not alone even as a novice
