Welding Stainless Steel Stick Root Pass.
zhlédnutí 426Před měsícem
Had some coupons laying around and decided to give these 316L-16 stick welding rods a shot. I’ve capped pipes with stick but never done a root. I feel like with the right practice and setting, this is an attainable process. Will it be as clean as a Tig root? Probably not. But with the right annealing implementations, you’d have a solid pipe. Thank you guys for running in.

Nice welding 👍
Thank you
I like the short, but if there is anyway u could edit it by zoom out the text, so we'll b able to read the whole sentence, that'd b great.
@@selwyn13 it’s a short of a full video. You can watch it if you want.
Thanks for the video. I am thinking of getting a welder. I have only a very small shop which is mainly a wood shop. I suppose I am asking for a fire by taking up welding in it? Can you comment? I do not even have a metal table.
It’s definitely going to burn up. Probably won’t catch on fire, go buy a cheap fab table from harbor fright. They are pretty cool imo
@@VantageWelding thanks, man.
Voy comensando aser soldador me gusta su video gracias
Clever to cut the sq out. nice job, very decent stick welding. A+
Как вы так хуёво варите корень?
It just happens brother.
Perhaps you can start uploading videos so you can show the world your awesome skills.
Does it work with 220v?
Probably not
You can look up all the details on their website.
Your a incrediable welder and your videos are top notch we all need each other to share and learn from, welders are in a class of our owne the art of the trade can be pretty unforgiveing at times frustrateing the heck out of us, but when we have guys and girls produce videos and share there views and experiences wiith the intent to help anyone who may see these videos makes me very proud to be in this field even though things can be pretty harsh for us welders, kuto's to all who share for the better enjoy.
First of, thanks for this comment brother. Thank you so much! And you are right about the sharing of information. I’m just showing my experience and mistakes so that other folks can learn from them.
Thanks for the video. Why do you use a 6010 for the root? Why not 7018 for that as well? or some other rod, like a 6013?
6010 +++ is specified for root passes. 7018 is not a penetrating rod. And 6013 is a cheap farm rod not intended for use in quality welds.
Thank you so much for this video. I love the honesty, good and not so good. At work we are looking to repair or replace our 80's era Syncrowave 500. I was wondering how the Primeweld models were doing with 6010, so this helps me a lot. Looking for something that runs on 480 volts though. I'm hearing a lot of good about Primeweld.
This prime Weld is an excellent machine. Will struggle with 6010’s however on the fillers. Idk why it worked really good on roots and when I moved to hot pass, it would sputter. Definitely a good machine however. Specially since it’s AC/DC. Really just use it for aluminum as I have a max star 210. Which is my favorite stick and Tig welding machine so far.
I think we can all agree if our friend can make and produce stick welds like he can we all can and am so happy we are shareing our views and information on what can and can't be done with what I think is an incrediable welding machine and a company who actually cares enough to listen and change things as we share them with them way to go thanks to all of you.
The machine is definitely worth every penny brother. I love it. Thank you for the comment. Means a lot!
Pay 🥜 and get monkeys 🐒
Not razor blades
Why not
How can I order the pipe rollers y'all are making
I’m no longer selling these bro. Had a disruption in manufacturing 😅
@@VantageWelding dang! You were going to save us alot of money in not buying a beveling machine. My son wants to make BBQ pits and to rollers were perfect for 20in pipe
@arthurquintana1345 hey brother. Get with @illestefpanda on instagram. If you can get a hold of him, he can build you some. He was the guy that was making them.
@@VantageWelding thanks bro. Saludos del Valle! Keep the content coming!
@arthurquintana1345 saludos mi chingón. Suerte.
Wish i chose welding as a career path. I hate sitting in an office at a desk listening to patient complaints and keep a quality hospital. 10yrs nursing. Current quality control director. Blah. Boring stuff. My brother are all trades workers. They all weld like my dad. Me, office rat. Lol. Idk one thing about it. But, looks fun burning rods.
can you really hang a chain hoist from a steam or water pipe? Ill admit I don't know jack about the trade however it feels sketchy.
It’s one of those deals you do or you don’t. 😅. But yes. As long as whatever you are lifting doesn’t create too much bearing weight.
@@VantageWelding well u got er done. It's a cool trade I'm sure it's very rewarding seeing the results. And thanks for the reply pal.
@brian2196 for sure brother. It’s a pretty fun job
I machined one once that was about that diameter but the housing was probably 3 times as long.. the rough casting came with an invoice that said $37,000 before anything was done to it
That’s extremely cheap. I need d an inconel 8” tee scd 40 the other day, and it came out to be around 15 grand 😓
@@VantageWelding I wish I knew what the finished part cost but almost 40k for material was enough to make me nervous. We used to make 3 or 4 a year out of 316 for the same company so I was pretty confident in my program and setup but I still wish I hadn't seen the price of the casting before I started it.. the pump housing went into a product called a RI Disintigrator for Bepex International if you want to see how big they are
@alexlaurent2967 true. We need to buy nickel stocks.
You made a bad ass jig for the torch to cut that radius👍👍, im sure you’ll find another time to use it, good 2 second improvement
Thank you sir
Learn something new every day.
Good stuff
be more practical to use flux coated 316L ?
Probably.
I have the same welder and it lays 7018 just fine!
Nice.
Could i get this to run on 110v 15a outlet?
Yes, but it’ll have its limits. Eventually it’ll trip the breaker.
Nice blue jeens
🫡
@@Txs_Santiel thanks homie
Old welders, the 7018 rods are called a "drag rod".
I know my experience are volumes. But I’m only 34. Thanks for the compliment.
Even better for the operators bro
This time I did it for me vato. 😂😂. But you know I always put my self on y’all’s shoes first

Should take note you used mild steel wire on stainless so it's going to be weak and incredibly brittle. So I would ignore that hammer test.
I’ll keep this in mind.
Красота 😮😊
Gracias hermano. 🫡
Great content! Straight forward information. I need to order the rollers y'all are making. It will save me money on a beveling machine
Thank you brother. If you don’t have money for a beveler, they will help you
y is this song on so many welding shorts
Probably cuz it’s a famous song. Idk. Just a wild guess.
Love your technique on tig, please do a tutorial on that.
I got plenty of videos homie. Check them out
Gotta love that nice shiny silver.
Salute big dawg 🫡
Slick city
Almost.
Not slick yet. But I’m bout to in a few brother.
What happened to my yes welder it's new and stopped working on mat 22 in the middle of a weld
Contact them bro. I’m not a sell rep for them boys. 🤣🤣
Pretty sick. Anything can be done in welding if you try hard enough and to be able to do stainless without a purge is even better. Why kinda gap and amps were you running
Thanks. And definitely it can be done for sure. Just need to fine tune. I used 1/8 gap with nickel size landing. Ran it around 60 amps. If I had someone on the remote (kind of like a Pipeliner way) to turn up and down it would be more consistent. As the rod burns, it gets hotter and hotter, so you’d need to turn amperage down as the rod progresses. It’s what I figured. Restarts should be started around 70 amps, then once fused back down to 60, then down with the progression of rod. I think 😅. It’s just a theory
@@VantageWelding I think for the most part a lot of stainless rods weld just like you said. They heat way up as the rod progresses. It definitely does on the 308-309 I’ve used before
@@VantageWelding if you had a positioner/variable speed turn table you could adjust the speed to try and outrun the heat and work it in that way
Yes brother. Definitely. It’s another procedure that could definitely be attained. Thanks for watching brother.
P.s. I use a sa-200.
My favorite. 🙏
As a certified pressure vessel welder, I use a half round file with the small tip ground to a point to clean off my slag
Awesome.
@@VantageWelding Thank you sir! Your videos can help to show the craft to the younger generation. They are our future! So we must encourage and show them both welding and torch "etiquette" My mentor is in his 80's and was a nuclear grade welder who helped build Grand Gulf power plant.
Dang! They need there own channel! nice...
They rebuild maybe one pump a year. You probably wouldn’t get to see much lol
Hell yea bro keep it coming
But why?
I like to learn shit.
And probably the same reason they have stainless dirty wire
No an easy task but well done !!!
Thanks brother. Just messing around
Rusted Stainless ? :D
We are talking welding rod Mr. Genius. Thanks for watching.
What’s the thickness of the pipe you are welding to
3” scd 40.
I like to put a long bolt through the flange hole and turn it like the leg on the trailer when and auto isn’t available great work I think my trick will take the waves out of your plasma bevel because the turning will be more smooth and controlled less stop and start but I’m just an old fool ignore me great work keep it up
You are right brother. I actually use a beveling machine. But was testing the rollers heads we are using to check the truenes. I should have used a chain clamp. Very good observation. Thanks for watching
@@VantageWelding thank you for posting. Keep it up
@snus9088 as long as 1 of you guys watch my videos. I’ll keep posting. All it takes is one view. 😂
Nice root.
Thank you Peter 🫡
I thought pipe pays more? Sorry I'm a new welder

@@VantageWelding any advice for a new welder fresh out of school? For getting his first job??
