  • Whats up guys. Back with another bringing other crafts to light. There are plenty more, but today we focus on a few just to hear their input. I reckon there's a shortage of skilled labor coming up so we have to prepare our selves and the younger generation to be able to maintain our Country's shape. Dying trades in particular. I hope you guys find this video useful and share with someone whom might find it helpful as well. Thank you guuys for rocking with me. God bless

I like the message at the beginning, I'm only 14, but my goal is getting in the trades.

I got in the trade welding 24 years ago started in oilfield shop for two years then I bounce out of that into plant work as a combo pipe welder then had some issues due to my hearing impairment I have plus I had a hard time with understanding the welding machine since welding school I went to didn’t have one so I got confused on how to dial it right plus I had to learn it the hard way. Then after dealing with too much issues with safety people over not wearing ear plugs since I wear hearing aides couldn’t take my aides out otherwise I hear nothing. So I got out of plant work went back to shop welding. It’s one of my biggest regret leaving plant welding. Now I’m fixing to be 49 years old in few days thinking it’s time I get back to tig and stick pipe welding! Need yo find a good teacher to get me going.

Thought about being a teacher but I realized my short temper and lack of patience will empede that. Not only that but I’m a horrible teacher. I cannot gather my thoughts into words at times. That and my lil boy keeps me busy as heck. You should check out Arc Show, Texas Made, or Arc Addicts. I can really vouch for those guys. Real experience and real welders.

If I had to do it all over again with what I know today, I would have joined a millwrights union as an apprentice

Mira! Finish high school. Learn to wright the English language to tell a story in 500 words or less. Learn to measure things accurately and make sketches that tell the story of what you need and don't dwell on any of it too long. Forget the damned poetry. Poetry and non-technical literature don't count for a damned thing once you are out of high school! And then humble yourself and ask for a helper job from the old guys. Take the low wages, minimum wage if you have to, get experience as a great helper. Stay off the phone and watch the tradesmen. Find out which trade you want to migrate into and be a suck-ass by the "telephone boys" estimation until you get an opportunity to take an apprenticeship in welding, rigging, electrician, hydraulics tech, crane operator (hold a tag line and watch the loads and weights) or whatever trade you want to follow. Chalk up the low wages to not having a student loan debt and then work your ass off and find friends in your chosen trade, get along with everybody owner to helper and work at it instead of standing around with your thumb in your ass. Always avoid horseplay that can get folks killed, pay attention to the old guys and always be of good humor. Then work for about fifty more years and understand you were a successful man or woman... Never talk down of yourself because of a lack of a college degree. It is the family fed, friends made and the financial success you gained that counts.

Trade schools, get in the field and get those hands dirty and pick up a trade . I started as a roustabout and boilermaker helper, let me tell ya hard work, training and school pays off, hell you really don't need much school maybe courses and field experience.
