Please excuse my ignorance. Was the gap between the pipe and the bell on the large side or were you just running a very small filler rod?

You have to leave a gap to be able to put a root in the pipe.

Is there a certain reason why you’re not rolling the pipe bro? To make it easier for you to weld it

Roll out when you can. Position when you can’t. By all means you can position weld every entire weld you want. Personal preference
