looking forward to your first mmu prints with this, I have only made a 2 color sheep and poker chip test prints so far, might try an 8hr + 5 color on the MK4 this weekend
You made that look very easy. 😀 I really like that you have the steps superimposed on the top left of the video. Regarding the zip ties. If you want to get the zip tie to go in from the bottom of the electronics cover, just bend the last half inch of the tie at a 90-degree angle. That should allow you to get it through the hole. I would go back and trim the sharp ends of the tie wraps that you left with your scissors using your filament cutters. You can get a very nasty cut on one of those zip ties.
How comes you didn't make the parts yourself? I usually download Prusa's gcode and slow the print down for improved quality. That ringing triggers my OCD a little, although I might be a tad weird like that admittedly.
I thought you said before you were not a fan of assembling things. This look pretty in-depth.
Bambu is the clear winning here. I expect more from Prusa. I had an MK3s for some time and I was happy, it was a workhorse. Never failed me. But the new Prusa XL doesn't meet my expectations. I find it far away from acceptable print quality. On the other hand, Bambu managed to build some printers with outstanding print quality and the price is what people expect from a 3d printer.
You work fast 🙂
Being able to watch my own video and listen rather than read was a huge time saver this second time. Thanks!
I think your video is good for a beginning and an experienced builder. I use an egg crate or ice cube tray for bolts and such, kind of a handy way of organizing things while building. Nice job catching that bearing pin that was rolling away 😉
I used a Gridfinity tray I had printed earlier.
I really like pulling the screws and bolts for each step so I don't forget anything. Do you still do this? Thanks!
Catching up on your MMU3 build videos 🙂
Thank you!
Coming along nicely.
Блин, тут с Задорновым не поспоришь... как же он был прав...
Wow, you do have a lot of patience and persistence! I would have given up on the second one when it failed. Sad to see so much wasted filament. And the out of stock issue is not just Prusa, Elegoo seems to have the same issue, at least on the Elegoo Canada store. Love the Elegoo filament, but can't get the colours I need.
Thank you!
Fyi Chris Taylor on his Nerys channel figured this out in vase mode a year or two back. I cant recall how he did it. Laurie. NZ. 😊
Thank you!
Mine should be here by early June. Can't wait. Subscribed!
Woohoo! Thanks!
Very cool. You're basically becoming a mechanic. You should be able to rebuild an engine carburator after this 👍🤓
Haha. In a later chapter where I am disassembling the MK4 nextruder, there is a step where you clean the grease off the gears. It gave me a strange flashback to "Small Engines" class in junior high. I definitely was more comfortable this time and enjoyed watching my own video instead of reading directions. Thanks so much!
ill be honest their setup for MMU is not appealing what she ever.
It takes up a very large space. That's my biggest complaint. Thanks!
I would swear this is the (exact) same video as the MMU3 for Mk3 video. The devil is in the details I guess.
The biggest difference is really modifications to the printer itself.
Yes for chapter 4 and 5, I reused a lot of video because the builds were the exact same. But I did add in the instructions and pictures from Prusa. Chapter 6 is the main video that starts to change. Thanks!
Hit: It is better to mount the F.I.N.D.A. a little too high, than too low. I managed to mount mine in a fluctuating state. Which halted the printer. I dissembled a reassembled the extruder, before I fount out I just had to raise the F.I.N.D.A.
Man that's frustrating! Thanks!
Legit ASMR meets printer building. Love it
Thanks so much!
You are much more comfortable putting it together than you were the first time. Things are going very smoothly.
Thanks so much!
Hi, I can't wait to see your MMU3 vs AMS videos, I have just space for 1 printer, I'm tring to sell my 2 yrs Prusa MK3s+, I like to assembly printers and printing in PLA and PETG, but now I don't know if I should buy a MK4+MMU3 or a Bambulab A1 combo!
I am surprised at how much space the MK4 and MMU3 take up. For just this reason, you may like the Bambu. But I will keep looking into the pros and cons. Thanks!
I just returned my Prusa xl. I'm done with Prusa no penny from me going to this overpriced junk. Using p1s for about 3 weeks and never been happier ❤
The Bambu printers are really fun to use. I find myself using the X1Cs a LOT. Thanks!
Anyone know if the WYZE cams can be set up in Prusa connect?
I haven't tried anything with Prusa Connect yet. Thanks!
Woo! Was excited for this video ^-^ I plan on ordering mine, as soon as my Prusameters reward request gets accepted, so I can add a free roll of PETG to my order.
Oh that'll be nice. Thanks so much!
Yeeesss!!! I’ve been really hoping you’d do a MMU3 video for the MK4!
Thanks so much!
Wow, I actually received mine before a youtuber. I think the spool holders should be an optional add on because I just have my 5 spools hanging below the table and they are working just fine.
Do you still use those long tubes into the buffer? Thanks!
As I understand it, the biggest difference between the Mk3 and Mk4 builds of the MMU3 are the changes to the printer itself. While Prusa wanted the Mk4 to not require any changes, unfortunately they had to do so. You will be taking the Nextruder apart and replacing some of the pieces. I am curious, though - you have the XL with a tool changer, why did you choose to get the MMU3?
My guess for the question you have; Cause tutorials/unboxings get views ^-^ Maybe not enough to fully cover the cost of the MMU3, but over time maybe.
I ordered the MMU3s before I recieved the 5TH XL. I would like more than one multicolor printer. The XLs are too expensive to have as many as I would like. So I'm trying to compare. Thanks!
The buffer makes the MMU3 system work flawlessly. When it's installed next to the printer with the little leg that sits underneath the printer to stop it moving about, it only takes up about another 70mm in width, which is very minimal. As for the filament spool holders, well they can be placed anywhere. They don't necessarily have to be in the same configuration as Prusa suggests. In fact I have mine mounted above one of my MK4 MMU3 print stations on a shelf and I have printed a lot of multicolored models with it with no trouble whatsoever. And another suggestion would be that you don't have to have PTFE tubes going all the way to your spool holders either, this just makes it harder to feed filament and constricts where you can place your spool holders. I also just have about six inches of PTFE tubing coming out of the buffer for each segment, meaning five in total. That way you are not restricted by where you can have your spool holders, and also it minimises drag on the filament. Just remember that when the filament is loaded in the buffer that the filament between the spool holders and the buffer never goes slack, it is always taut. On another of my MK4 MMU3 print stations I have the filament spools mounted underneath in a cupboard, same thing, prints have come out flawlessly and I have not had ANY load problems either. If you're creative with your configurations when it comes to your maker space then you will discover that it takes up very little extra space. Good luck and I look forward to your upcoming videos regarding your experience with the MK4 MMU3.
Thanks so much!
I been waiting for this...hopfully this will convince me to get it!. Thank you!
I like it much better on the MK4 than the MK3s. Still trying to compare between XL etc. Thanks!
Are the Prusa MMU kits comparable to the BL AMS and AMS Lite, as far as making multi material prints? Can the MMU switch to a backup.spool (having same material) if the one you're printing with runs out? These vids are very interesting. I wait for the printing results and comparisons 👍😊
It's comparable to the AMS Lite, but with five colors instead of four. All of the purging is done into the tower instead of "pooping" like Bambus do. The printer will also do a ramming sequence to form the tip, which helps to increase reliability and minimize waste. Yes, it can switch to a backup spool - I've done that a few times with my MMU3. Prusa calls it "spool join."
@logicalfundy Thank you for the overview how it works. sounds pretty good system
Wow, you must enjoy the punishment the MMU provides. I don't know why you would get this when you already have a 5T XL...and an X1 too! Well, I hope your experience goes better than your XL experience. The MMU is the worst product Prusa has ever produced.
have you used the MMU3?
The MMU3 is vastly improved over the MMU2.
I ordered these before I received my XL 5TH. I felt like the MMU3 for the MK3s was a lot of work and the MK3s feels ancient. The setup on the MK4 is much better. But I still dislike the footprint. Thanks!
@@tada3dprinting Well I have my Mk4 in one of those enclosures that's like a grow tent. I've got the top reinforced with some plywood, and I have the spools on top of that. Need to get longer PTFE tubes, there's some filament exposed, but it works. There are also a lot of spool holder designs and buffers on Printables - if you want to print your own, you can, and the kit does have hardware so you might not even need to go to the hardware store.
Thanks, am waiting for mine. I look forward to your build and also the decisions about the buffer 🙂
Thanks so much!
It will be interesting to see how you end up placing the spool holders and the buffer. This will not be a 10-minute install. 🙂
I am thinking about mounting the spools on the back wall or above. Still trying to decide that. I'll have more room to experiment with this soon. Thanks!
Status after 3 weeks of using my Prusa MK4 with the MMU3. I think it is important is share both good and bad experience, and their ratio: • Successful prints: 28 • Failed prints, my fault: 4 • Failed prints, hardware/software fault: 1 • Filament loads: 1720 • Filament interventions: 2 • Print time: 4d23h My success rate has been quite good. Especially since I am counting all attempts, include those where I learnt what not to do. This is my first MMU, and I am printing primarily in 6 year old ABS. My conclusion is that: Not only is the MMU3 very reliable. It actually improves the reliability of the raw MK4. Which means I no longer need the babysit the printer, to make sure first layer calibration goes well. I can just start a print and go to work or sleep. *Issues with raw MK4, fixed with MMU3* [1] During print start. The pull-force required to pull down the print head, with loaded filament, can bee too high. Resulting in the print not starting. [2] Oozing causing the first layer calibration to halt. [3] Oozing causing the first layer calibration to fail. *Consequence of issues* [1+2] Results in one can return to a print after 8 hours, which has not started at all. [3] At best gives a poor first layer, or at worst covers your print head in wasted filament, and possible breaks some parts in the print head. *How is it fix with the MMU3 added* [1] Has been fixed by having a PTFE tube between the print head and the MMU3. So no extra pull force is required while the print head is being lowered. [2+3] Has been fixed by removing oozing, by not have the nozzle loaded while doing the first layer calibration.
Thank you for the info 😊👌🏼
Yes thank you 🙂
.... and I recognize all of the errors you mention... Glad it's not just me!
...and another thank you 👍👍
Issue number 1: I see that a ton with my own printer. The tension put on the nextruder from a spool on its hanger makes the printer think it hit Z:0 way too early. To fix it, I either unspool a little before it homes, or if I'm doing a big single color print, I'll setup a reverse-bowden to a dehydrator, so there's absolutely no strain on the nozzle as it moves across the axis.
I'll be basing my "investment" on this series. No pressure. 😂 Thanks for clear, honest videos 👌🏼
Same here!
indeed 😉
Thanks so much! So far, it js much more fun to use the MMU3 with the MK4 over the MK3s. Now to decide if I like it better than my other multicolor printers!
@@tada3dprinting That's great news! After watching what I could of mmu-MK3 videos my enthusiasm has dimmed somewhat. So! I look forward to the MK4 Videos! :)
same for me, would love to see❤
Thank you!
I’d have done a test print of like an inch tall and tested for leaks - but the end result looks great. How much slower than vase mode?
I'm not sure. I just used the default settings. Thanks!
Working on a Bambu lab in a Prusa t-shirt 😂.
Haha I'm glad you caught that! Bambu needs to start selling shirts!
If you don't have a pop filter, it might be cool to make one or something just to control some of the gusts from you speaking that happen every now and then. I dunno what your mic is so I can't really help any more than that. Nice lil video about the input shaping too! I'm just getting into 3d printing and this was handy
Thanks so much!
Cant wait for scarf seam hide those nasty seams better.
Are they planning on this for Bambu slicer?
That is very quick!
It was so nice!
Underrated channel!
Thanks so much!
You could always send me one.
Haha I just finished the build on the MMU3. Now to edit the videos. Not sure I'm ready to build the other MMU3 any time soon. Thanks!
This will be really interesting to see, im thinking of buying the mmu, and if that's a good idea or if I'd be better of buying a Bambu printer with ams
Just my 2 cents, please consider cost. The mmu cost is $300. For $400 you can get the Bambu A1 mini combo with ams lite. I bought the A1 mini combo for just this reason. I also heard of a ton of issues with the mmu on the mk3s+ which is what I have. The A1 mini works fantastic.
@@nicksantitoro yeah, thats why I’m thinking about that, I like my Prusa printers, but if I can get an entire printer for the price of Prusas mmu I really have to consider that
@@nicksantitoro also I had a really bad experience with the mmu on my mk2.5
@@Jakob127 wow that sucks. I wanted to buy an mmu 3 but I heard SO many complaints. I just checked and the mmu3 is $400 😬. I thought it was $300.
So far I do like the MMU3 on the MK4 better than on the MK3s. But there are pros and cons to the Prusa MMU3 vs the Bambu options. So it depends on what you need it for. Prusa pros - much less filament waste. Prusa cons - huge footprint and long build time. Bambus have several options. The X1C pros - setup in 10 mins, compact design and fun to use and includes a camera. X1C cons - lots of filament waste. I also have a Bambu A1 Mini. I think it would be a great multicolor printer if you only want one. The price is great and also easy to use. I don't like the space it takes up for the size of the build plate. And of course also lots of waste. I don't like the camera. Hope this helps. Once I get through editing all the videos of the MMU3 build, I'll show more comparisons. Thanks!
I am really looking forward to seeing the MMU3 on your MK4. I was had ordered one but cancelled it because of all of the problems people were having with it. I understand that it is much better now. Let's hope you have a great experience with yours.
It seems much easier to use on the MK4. But I still don't like the huge footprint. Thanks!
@@tada3dprinting Have you thought about adding an enclosure to the MK4? There is the Prusa one, or you could also do the IKEA Lack enclosure. These enclosures put the filament above the printer like the X1 Carbon, so that really reduces the footprint.
Been loving my MMU3 on my MK4. Hope it works better than your MK3S+ experience.
So far I like it much better. But still hate the footprint it takes up.
@@tada3dprinting same here. I am currently debating between some wall pegs with bearings or plumbing it all to a Sunlu S4 & S2 so I can keep it dry as I head to the humid season.
Did you Sell your prusa xl ?
Nope just busy printing miniatures for Etsy. Thanks!
Nobody See that bambu cant Print edges? Its all so smooth. Uugh
I actually like it. Thanks!
I just got the MK4 MMU3 and I am also trying to figure how I can stack and minimize the footprint of the spools, and then I started having filament try to jump over the gap, Got my thinking cap going :)
I did try it without the buffer and by putting my filament above. But I'm having trouble with the angle. Still working on this. Thanks!
I would iike work with creating a multi-wall vase mode.
It worked out pretty well. Thanks!
Nicely done.
Thank you!
