Verisk comes up as an insurance rating, analytics, and technology company. Do they actually write policies, collect premiums, and pay claims? It is similar to Calyx Point Software for loan officer or Lexis Nexis for credit bureaus. It is a third party that offers services to the industry that it supports. I could be wrong. Is there a parent company that writes policies?

Hey Shane, great videos man! I have a question. How do you handle a situation where a client wants to make upgrades or changes to the scope? For example, adjuster approved the replacement of all the continuous flooring throughout the main floor and the client decided to put a transition strip and just do one room. She then wants to use the money that would’ve gone to replacing all of the floors to doing something else like adding cabinets and extending her countertop space. Is this type of activity allowed? Every insurance claim job I’ve had the client requests improvements and changes to the scope. I’m in the Portland OR metro area and most of our insurance claims we get are due to pipes freezing and busting causing interior damage to kitchens and bathroom.

What do you think about them leaving machines running 45 days, only tore one room, insulation from crawlspace. small bathroom, a wall and partial kitchen. Said it would be maybe 20 at the highest. Charged 80k… I mean.. that’s almost a third of our house. Multiple contractors came in saying they were out of their minds.

Really bad advice. At that point you're negotiating in bad faith. The IICRC is crystal clear about equipment usage. Contractors who use your techniques are why honest contractors get treated so rudely by adjusters. Be honest, bill precisely per industry standards, hold firm that you're not negotiating because you followed the standards, and you'll do just fine in this business.

I think you need to clarify what industry your in...restoration services....so many diff type of pm in this world..fir example my current job.. IT PM...requires 95 % doing financials.. getting people and partners paid...no IT knowledge really required....i have learned what PM actually means...MY FAULT...even thhough ITprojects are huge.. all kinds of people involved per project.. but when one of those 22 people drop the ball... everyone blames the PM.. RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY RESPONSIBILITY FOR 22 PEOPLE....ONE TIME OUR TECH IN SOUTH DAKATO WIFE HAD A BABY 3 HOURS BEFORE 8AM...CUST WANYED TO KNOW WHERE THE BU TECH IS... I WAS SUPPOSED YO KNOW TECH HAD A PREGNANT WIFE AT 9 MONTHS..

Xactimate shows pricing per line item. I know you did not confirm that but the way you explained it and noting multiple times that insurance wants to see price per item implies it doesn’t.

Ive had an adjuster's license 7 years, now getting into the restoration business. The only times (maybe twice) I ever asked for ESX is because I had at least 40 other claims, it was a large house and the contractor already had it sketched. Since I sketch on site that saves me hours. Anytime we get their estimate, even if it's a PDF we can see price differences anyway. No doubt some adjusters use the file to nit pick, but that wasn't me.
