Thing is, I agree that you can’t necessarily replicate the hype during the Switch era. Breath of the Wild was novel, Odysey was a return to form, Amimal Crossing was pushed by the pandemic, Smash had everyone, etc… But one big difference that one mustn’t underestimate is the branching out of Nintendo IPs beyond video games. Movies, theme parks, Lego, merchandising, etc… that keeps people engaged with them, and brings them into the video game ecosystem. Really, the video game battle in the next few years will revolve around IPs more than ever.

It hurts that the games I love aren't regarded in the same way by their creator. Just chocking up love for the old games as nostalgia is really insulting. I love Zelda, I just don't like open world games. It feels weird that Aonuma has such distaste for more linear games.

My hot take; I LOVE Skyward Sword. When I played it as a kid its atmosphere, artstyle, and story entranced me like no other! The motion controls enhance the immersion and the game is just so beautiful.

I can only assume that old survey Miyamoto referenced was poorly worded. Something like "what is your favorite part of the Mario RPG games?" and only allowing one entry, and since there was probably a lot of game mechanic options, story was considered secondary and they got limited responses. But we won't know unless we can actually find that old survey and see how it was worded.

I agree with the Spirit Tracks being not that great compared to Phantom Hourglass! I don't think it's a top 3 game though Spirit Tracks bonus content and its navigation is just... no way near as fun to me so restricted and tedious

The "iteration" argument makes no sense. The Switch itself, in terms of its central design concept, is literally a direct iteration of the Wii U. The primary issue Nintendo had with the Wii U (at least in my opinion) is that they really dropped the ball with the marketing/branding. There were A LOT of people that thought the Wii U was just another Wii accessory like the Balance Board. If Nintendo comes out and releases a console called "Switch 2" or "Switch Pro" and clearly communicates that it's a new generation of hardware, they'll be just fine. Will it outsell the Switch? No, almost certainly not. Why? Because most people who own a Switch won't be ready/willing to upgrade, and the global economic climate of 2024-2025 is much worse than it was back in 2017.

Problem with LoZ stories is that Nintendo is too cautious with it. The story works well enough and they don't want to scare away fans. I just wish they'd take a cue from Mario series. Same concept (Bowser kidnaps Peach), but funny little wrinkles (like Bowser Jr. Thinking Peach is his mom)

I would point out. That I think mentally, the idea of having "lower budget" 3ds / gameboy esqe games on the switch, doesn't really work to well. As you will get an audience that looks at the console they have and think "I could play x AAA game on the go on this console, or I could just play mario pinball." I think that advance wars release could have been a test on porting and remaking old gameboy games. I wonder if that would lead to modern versions of the Mario & Luigi series. Or the production of Shorter simplier games with First party ip. (Like downscale peach showtime and to me visually it plays as a kirby gameboy game.)

The GBA is an untapped goldmine for indie development and fun, fulfilling arcade experiences. I really hope people look at games like Gunstar Superheroes, Summon Night, and the Spyro games and make something amazing with them.

I think it's okay, the puzzle and platforming parts don't feel as polished. The combat is where it shines but I miss the party member variety from og paper Mario.

Something I have to nitpick about your video: the functionality of the Switch is just the natural evolution of WiiU’s gimmick that you call barely interesting. It’s the logical progression of the idea that started with WiiU that Nintendo was able to realize as the technology matured. As it is, WiiU was pretty ahead of its time. What is the Ps5 Portal other than a WiiU, and how many years later?

Just the fact that the Switch 2 won't launch with a new 3D zelda is a sign it won't get the same level of hype.
