I don't know, I'm not getting the full version to find out. To me, the fun is getting 100% on all the collectibles, and the fact that the stages do not let me backtrack if I notice I miss something is a capital-C Choice that kills the game for me. To my son, he just found it boring.
Maybe it is somebody else's cup of tea, but I'll stick with Kirby as a good kids game for our whole family.

protection plans are meant to be extended warranties but with Nintendo/SONY/Xbox games they usually will provide replacements under a year anyways; and stores have a 2-4 weeks warranty which is usually enough of a plan. So the protection plan is just redundant, and ultimately victimizes insecure people usually soccer moms and bad joke dads who don't know any better.

This one of my biggest overall concerns here. A similar experience elsewhere would be 20 or 30 bucks, but here it feels like yet another thing where they go "we can get away with charging the full 60 for this because it's got the Mario series branding" and it's just becoming old at this point. I think it's reasonable to want that Nintendo premium to not exist for smaller stuff like this.

24 year old woman who loved Super Princess Peach on the DS here.
I'm not a very good gamer. Most Mario platformers can be too difficult that it makes me upset and I have to put it down.
I never got far with Odyssey because I didn't gel with the gameplay.
I absolutely loved this game. Sure it's "easy", but I died too many times to admit for it being "easy" 😅
This game was a feel good, easy, almost 100% stress free game with cute costumes and fun little stories featured in the plays and a decently interesting overarching story.
It's honestly the first Mario game I've finished since Sunshine 😅
I'm not saying Arlo is wrong in any way, I just wanted to leave my thoughts because we seemed to have really opposite take aways when it came to the difficulty level being good or bad.

I just wanted to share another perspective as someone who can't let my heart rate get too high so stressful games aren't fun for me and that maybe not every nintendo game has to cater to everyone.
I feel it heavily catered to my life style and game style and I'm so grateful for it.
I just wanted to share that because sometimes when I watch people review things... I don't know.
Sometimes it feels like the way I enjoy games is frowned upon and can be labeled as a bad game when it's just a different style/pace than what "most" gamers want.

Exactly this. Both my 12yo daughter and I have been playing this game, and we've both been enjoying it. My husband, while not interested in playing it himself, has been sitting down to watch us play because of the cute story and visual appeal, as well. Getting to the end of a level isn't the challenge, it's in the collecting. I got my full 10 Sparkles on Ninja-1 earlier today, and I restarted the level repeatedly because I missed a timing during the autorun section. My first time through Cowgirl-1 I restarted during the first lasso section becasue I missed freeing one of the Theets who I knew would have given me a Sparkle otherwise. (Swordfighter levels 1 and 3 are the only ones I've managed to fully complete on my first try, which makes sense since they're basically the tutorials of how the levels will go. Though, I'm playing only a few levels at a time each day right now, and I bought the game two days ago, so I'm still on floor 2. Kiddo will be starting floor 4 after school tomorrow.)

I wish games were sold at a baseline of $60, it’s not worth that. BUT I will say, as a woman who grew up playing my brothers as Peach in SMB2 for NES, I have been having a lot of fun playing this with my daughter who is 4. She was EASILY able to handle the demo so I bought it he full game and I haven’t regretted it. We had a ton of fun decorating cakes. The first few levels she was taking some extra hits so I offered her the heart charm so she could have a few more permanent hearts and ever since then she was easily able to understand the gameplay and mechanics. I had to read everything to her but I did voices and we had a ton of fun. I think I’m probably the games target audience- an adult woman who grew up with Peach, and has now been enjoying the Mario movie and this game with my kid. I’m probably exactly who they wanted this game to reach and I really appreciate the game for what it is. We had a blast playing it. It’s not exactly something I would ever pick up to play in my own time but for family time on cold or rainy days its perfect. My husband NEVER touched Nintendo games growing up, only PS and PC, but when I busted out Super Mario Wonder- my husband, son, 4 year old daughter and myself all had a BLAST playing together. The only one of the newer Mario games I got for my own time was Mario RPG but I haven’t even touched it yet lol. I got it just ust for nostalgias sake I think lol. Anyway, I’m sure I’m the target market for these new games and that’s fine because I’m super happy with the time I’ve spent with my family playing them so far and I’m super hype for Paper Mario TTYD. ❤

6:04 *climbs up on my soap box and takes a deep breath* PEACH'S SUPER POWER IN SUPER PRINCESS PEACH WAS *NOT* HER EMOTIONS. IT WAS HER SELF-COMPOSURE. The plot of the game revolves around Bowser using the Vibe Scepter to curse the Mushroom Kingdom with insane magical emotions that either render them helpless (Mario, Luigi, and the Toads) or give them out-of-control destructive powers (Bowser's minions). Peach is the only character who is able to maintain agency while affected by the magical emotions. The emotion powers she gets are not unique to her. It's her ability to stay in control and use those powers to save her friends that makes her Super. In short, it's my favorite girlboss power fantasy and I will forever hold a grudge against gaming journalists for screaming "EW, IT'S SO SEXIST!!!!" when in the actual context of the game, Peach is actively *defying* a sexist stereotype.

The only Good Feel game that I feel like did have some level of challenge was Yoshi's Wooly World, which even then it was pretty easy, but some of the extra levels got pretty challenging. I don't think they we're deliberately dialing down the difficulty of the game because they think girls can't handle difficulty.

I really love the "inconsistency" of the bosses because I find the variety really creative and they, with the exeption of one, really balance out the "easiness" of the game.
Which is what I also love about Peach, you can play the whole game with 3 buttons, which not only makes sense, since you have so many different play styles, but I just generally missed that in games lately.
We were playing a mario party game recently, like the one that got remade for the switch, and my biggest complaint for that game is that at every minigame, which is my favourite thing about Mario Party, you have to basically learn a whole new control set to play it. AFAB here, let me be your first one!
Yes, the fact that the one game starring a girl revolves around emotions has to be understood under a sexist and patriarchal lens-because that's the society we live in and it informs the arts that are being made. The mere presence of the theme isn't innocuous, it doesn't come from nowhere. Then, if we move on from that, we can dig deeper: considering Peach obeys another patriarcal damsel-in-distress trope most of the time, leaning into emotions and being able to make them a strength in the game that uses her as an active protagonist is thematically interesting.
I think you have a very reactionary vision of any art analysis under a feminist lens as judgmental. Just as any other form of analysis, it's meant to be descriptive, not prescriptive. Yes, making the Peach game about emotions can be understood as informed by traditional gender roles, that doesn't mean we think the game is bad or can't be empowering-two things can be true at once. Analyses like this can be used by a person to explain their dislike/dismissal of a game and dear god, I do that a lot, but it's not automatic. We're noticing things. That doesn't mean we're out to tear games down.

Weaponizing joy isn't the problem here and I think you know that. Honestly it doesn't matter how they contextualize it within' the game, they make decisions like this for a reason. They chose to have it appear on a surface level to gamify mood swings. This is the starting point when coming up with a game, they did not start with the full story context, they started with what they considered to be a natural extension of Peach at the time, which was apparently just extreme emotional outbursts. When they applied this type of thinking to working with the character, Mario got a jetpack, so it's pretty clear where their heads were at.

Lots of AAA companies have stopped making spinoffs of their mainline series. When's the last time you saw a spinoff of a AAA series made by a company not named Nintendo Atlus or Square Enix?
Instead, if anyone in the AAA space wants to try a new idea, they either have to make it a huge game that will impress everyone with graphics and ambition, or they have to go indie and start all over. Spinoffs like this let developers try new ideas without starting from nothing.
When people say they want smaller games with worse graphics, this is what they're asking for. They're not asking for indie games or lower quality products. They just want spinoffs - new ideas in familiar packages. We don't get a lot of those anymore.

I think the reason why I enjoyed the peach game alot is because I set my expectations at the right spot I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece or a GOTY, but just a fun light hearted adventure where I can see Peach finally do cool stuff, I do wish there was more to the game a hard mode difficulty after beating it would have been nice and 1 more level for each transformation would have boosted the game much higher in my eyes hopefully the devs either update this game over time of take the criticism of this one into the next Peach game.

For me, I think it's the fact that every costume feels a little underdeveloped
I feel the game would have really benefitted from having either a third normal level for the 10 costumes.
Or better yet, focusing their efforts on 5 costumes with 4 normal levels each.
This way, they could slowly intorduce more mechanics for each costume and could gradually increase the challenge. Then, finally, have the Sparkla rescue level be a test of everything you've learned.
I appreciate that having all 10 offers a variety of gameplay styles, but as Arlo said towards the end of this video, some of them are only fun to play once or twice.
To add to this, because each only gets 2 levels, some are really unevenly spaced out.
For example, [SPOILERS!] all of the Swordfighter levels are handled by the end of floor 2. This includes the Sparkla level as the game forces to do it straight away as part of a cutscene. Meaning you don't get to play as Swordfighter Peach for the rest of the game unless you replay. Similarly, the first Kung-fu level isn't until floor 4, then the second is immediately on the fifth and final floor. [END OF SPOILERS!]
If I were to personally pick and choose 5 costumes. I'd cut; Cowgirl, Pâtisserie (which I loved aesthetically, I'm just not sure how you could stretch it out over 4 levels), Detective, Mermaid, and Kung-fu.
This means they'd be Swordfighter, Ninja, Figure Skater, Dashing Theif, and Mighty left to work with.
You could even bring back the cut 5 as the minigame levels.
TL:DR Having fewer costumes means more effort could have been spent on developing the ones that remain, which could have led to the late game being more complex/challenging.

I am a little surprised that Nintendo failed to recognize how many adults were interested in this game. Every Mario fan knows Peach. I believe we all wanted to see her grow as a character. I hope we get a sequel that addresses all the shortcomings.

I honestly loved all of it as an adult woman. I only wished it had more stages for transformations. This feels like they are testing the waters to see how well Peach will sell nowadays.
Hoping we get a more fleshed out sequel or something.
Also, my only gripe with the "because it's Peach" comment is that Metroid and Bayonetta exist. Of course they're not Princessess but they are still femine icons so I still don't believe in that notion from Nintendo yet.
However I believe this game has accomplished one thing. I think Peach will not be a damsel in distress anymore and she's finally going to be a major part in the next mario game line after the remakes.

Samus has to wear a suit
Bayonetta isn't made by Nintendo, only published and was bought because Nintendo wanted something to prove to hardcore gamers that Nintendo cared about them during the Wii U early days

I wanted to offer a counterpoint here. I am an adult woman who sucks at video games. But I like to play video games. I think there should be games for people like me. I have seen many adult women who have really enjoyed this game because of its ease. People who normally play other genres have had a fun time with this game. I have not bought the game because I can’t spend the money on it rn, but I really enjoyed the demo and even struggled with parts of it. It kinda hurts my feelings that so many adults dismiss games as being “too easy for adults” when there are adults who enjoy games of all difficulty levels. I think people who suck at video games but love to play them should have more options. I hear this critique about 2D Mario and Pokemon a lot and those are some of my favorite franchises because I can pick them up and play when I can’t play other games cuz they’re too hard. Sure, maybe you could beat Zelda games at 8 years old, but some of us can’t do that as adults without frustration and I just think there should be more options. Hope you guys can appreciate my perspective. Not everyone games like you do. ❤

Imo I don’t care if the demographic for this game is more on the kid side, I genuinely had so much fun and joy playing this game even as a 22 year old.

That sketch at the start is legit how I feel about buying Nintendo games. For real. One time on Black Friday I bought Pokemon Sword (I think), but I wanted to also have Shield because of course. Every time I would go to my local Walmart to get the other version the same kid that worked there was always in the electronics. Now i don't know if he just radiated some kind of judgy energy, or maybe I have become more self conscious once I hit my 30's. But when I bought Sword I did the whole "Oh this is for my nephew" shtick, and regret it! But you know what? I took a deep breath, puffed out my chest, swallowed my pride, then left the Walmart and drove 30-minutes out of my way to go to Target instead. All in all. Very hilarious and relatable.

Frankly, I don't think many care unless you give off the impression that you care. At best, they'd say something behind your back before moving on to a new topic soon after. You will hardly remain in the memory of some stranger. Unless you are a veeery attractive figure, they will forget about your existence. Also, if a cashier raises beef or mocks you, they are the ones in trouble after you complain to their manager. "Do you have an issue with me purchasing a product from this store?" The store wants customers to buy! To not feel welcomed and even mocked for attempting, is shitty customer service.
