Hello everyone, good viewing🐼...
You can Arlo I believe in you! :D
Can arlo repeat the success of his breath of the wild review? or is he a big scaredypuss
I honestly they are in a intriguing spot where yes they very well could
Sure the ps5 or series X may have it's fans but if Nintendo carries over majority of what switch had to offer though backwards compatibility and services they already have a leg up
Plus unlike other studios even cross gen releases in 2025 won't feel like they are limiting hardware success like ps4 does with ps5
More a novelty thing left over from development as a one last thank you moment for lo g lasting players

I hope whatever Nintendo's next console is doesn't completely reinvent the wheel. If all they do is a more powerful Switch, that's all I want. The Switch is too fun to leave behind already
Yeah the problem is managing to do that but also making the system unique. Which remember a big problem with the Wii U was people not even understanding it was a new system.
@@ryan20028 Exactly. Xbox and Playstation can get away with it because they've set that precedent with all their consoles so fans understand what they're getting. The vast majority of Nintendo fans do not have the same mindset as other "gamers" and thus don't really see a performance update as an actual new console. It also doesn't help that Nintendo kinda shot themselves in the foot with things like the Wii Mini and New 3DS which were variants of already existing consoles that conditioned casual fans to think if a new console isn't completely different, then it is just an unnecessary variant.
@@milkman2808 The fact that people debate whether or not the Game Boy Color was a new system or just a Game Boy with Color sells your point

i gotta admit. over 7 or 8 years being on track to outsell the PS2 is pretty incredible. i looked it up and saw that to my surprise, the ps2 was beng sold all the way up until 2013. twelve years. no wonder it did so many numbers. the fact that the switch is already on its way to overtaking it's throne in under 8 years is pretty wild. credit to nintendo.
Why is that so important to you?
@@nohomers100because it's a record that no one thought would ever be beat? Do you not see how impressive it is that we're actually witnessing it happening?
Also, when PS2 launched DVDs were massive, abandoning VHS, and DVD players were expensive. Having a console that also played DVDs was a big thing back then, you could have both for almost the same price. Also PS1 was a big success and this helped. Nowadays many gamers play on PC and almost no one watches DVD, that's one of the reasons why people thought no one could beat PS2 and one of the reasons consoles sell less and less, it was the perfect timing for PS2. So switch's success is very impressive.
@@nohomers100 based on your comment, looks like these numbers are more important to you, lol. Original commentor only pointed out that the numbers the Switch is pulling is impressive for the duration it's been out.
@@JyuzouNT comment? It was question not a comment
They literally only have to do 3 things to guarantee another huge success:
1. Full switch backwards compatibility
2. Powerful enough for 3rd parties to work with for modern games
3. Continue to release great games at a steady pace
They have all the momentum in the world going for them, so if they fail they only have their own incompetence to blame
I hope I one day see the same eshop having a clear and easy indicator of if games are Switch 2-only, or available for both (perhaps a different icon to go with the tabletop/handheld/docked compatibility indicators, or a different section more prominently visible altogether), and it would be cool to see some games get updated to look and/or perform better on Switch 2. Regardless, currently released games running more smoothly would be enough for me. Perhaps DLSS for 4k upscaling will be possible?
Point 2 is probaly not as important as you think, if they were to have that much power for a portable then the battery life and portability would suffer due to the limitations of technology, the Steam Deck for example is heavier than the Switch and has a fairly short battery life, not to mention it is less resistant to drops and impacts. These things may not seem that important, but believe me since Nintendo has such a huge younger/parents fanbase those elements are important.
Plus while there are certainly some great third party games with heavy specs requirements, the Switch isn't the best platform for those and Nintendo should know this, also having strong hardware also becomes an obstacle for point 3, so Nintendo will probably not do a huge leap in the specs department, since it brings more issues than benefits on the long run.

As long as they don't call the Switch 2 something stupid like the Wii U, they should be fine.
Right
Arguably I think the Switch 2 would be a terrible title and I hope that isn't what they call it.
@@directorjakehow? Sony has shown it’s the easier and most understandable name.
@@directorjake Why would it be terrible? It's very straightforward. It's better than Super Switch, which a lot of people seem to want
New Nintendo Switch.
They need to do exactly five things.
1. Make it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR, FROM THE GET-GO that it’s a new system. We all remember the confusion surrounding the Wii-U, especially among parents and casuals. I don’t know if slapping Switch 2 on it is necessary, but they can’t leave it vague.
2. Backwards compatibility, and no nickel and diming people on the transfer of digital copies. If they want to charge a buck or two for each one, fine, but keep the price low and don’t lock any features behind paywalls. This transition needs to be as smooth as possible.
3. Don’t do anything heroically stupid. Keep it a handheld/console hybrid, and if they must add any goofy shit to it like experimental control schemes, make it optional.
4. Quality control! Keep the studios they own in check so that we don’t see as many bugs and slowdown issues, iron out any known hardware problems and do as much shakedown testing as possible BEFORE the drop, and don’t gaslight people when they inevitably find problems with the hardware or software. Own up to them, and fix them.
5. Keep software development sustainable. Remember how ACNL got delayed for a few months to give the people working on it time to live their lives and not cut corners trying to meet the old deadline? Remember how it resulted in a great game that didn’t have a shitload of bugs? Do that, Nintendo. Do that any time it seems like it might be necessary, because it probably will be. It may not always pay off in the short term, but it absolutely will in the long term.
And it's gotta do better with legacy software. I really don't want the virtual console equivalent to take another 4 years to be available and drip one NES title a month, just make everything available from the start.
@@jonathanwilliams1271 Good news, I think NSO is gonna stay the same.
In one of Nintendo's earnings reports (or some sort of document), there was a section discussing the general strategy with NSO's growth, essentially saying they want to keep increasing the value well into the next console launch.

I love my switch-but I don’t see how Nintendo can reach these heights again. The Switch was the perfect storm. Relatively easy to get near launch… lower cost than its competitors… a pandemic that launched sales again… the first major hybrid console… I don’t see all of this happening again.
You’re 100% right. Just like how a new animal crossing game wouldnt do as well as New Horizons if released rn
@@izzywoods794 true, pandemic definitely hugely benefited switch sales, I’ve seen videos of people saying they haven’t used their switch since they got it to play AC (which is kinda crazy that they blew 300 just to play 1 game)
Not to mention it also released after 7 years of Nintendo's worst selling console, the WII U, people were dying to get a new Nintendo console which also drove Switch sales.
By simpley doing it beter that's how
Don’t get me wrong-I LOVE Nintendo. Their next console may even be more adored/revered by fans and critics. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it will sell better.
On a side note-I would love to see the successor to the switch revisit old IPs. A new Star Fox or Donkey Kong would be amazing.
Literally all they have to do is follow the PS1 -> PS2 model:
- Full backwards compatibility with Switch 1 (digital/physical games + Switch Online).
- Make it noticeably more powerful (a given)
- Improve multiplayer experience (like, come on Nintendo, this is a pretty low bar)
- Add non-gaming functionality that dramatically increases its value (i.e., add all the popular streaming services to the Nintendo store).
That's it. I'm sure it'll be improved in other ways as well, but if these four items are addressed, Nintendo will have an easy slam dunk.
That being said, this *IS* Nintendo we're talking about here, and sometimes things go a tad... sideways.
Anyway, thanks Arlo, hope you're doing well!
"low bar" Nintendo on multiplayer is probably the most heartbreaking truth here.
At they very least, the Mario Sports game USED to be their Jam. Shame they peaked on the Gamecube.
Also co-op local multiplayer for the next Splatoon and Pikmin game. Both are games I want to play with my friends at home.
I don't get why people want streaming on the Switch so much (maybe because I think most of them are shit and only Mubi's worth paying), like, you can use everything else in your home these days for that already. And if you brought along a somewhat big gaming tablet somewhere, it makes sense to use it for... games?
No. Sony's model doesn't work well. Sony has a less then 50% success rate with their systems. PS1 does decent, PS2 AMAZING, PS3 HORRIBLE FAILURE, PS4 AMAZING, PS5 FAILURE. PSP AMAZING, PS Vita UTTER FAILURE. That's 3/7 systems being big successes...Looking at their track record, PS6 will be great cause the failure of the PS5 will force them to do shit again.
@@ItApproaches That's why I didn't say to use the Sony model, but use the PS1 -> PS2 model.
The PS2 was pretty much the perfect evolution from one generation to another.
Knowing Nintendo, the next console is equally like to...
1. Be everything we've ever wanted
2. Be good, I guess, it's alright but not great
3. Require you to receive a solid punch to the face in order to play it
Probably the bottom 2 Nintendo have a habit of wanting to punch themselves in the face by trying to be too inventive
A graphical jump is by far the easiest way to show consumers a console is genuinely new and plays new games anyhow

the reason for the switch 2 delay really could be as simple as Nintendo wanting Switch to the best selling console of all time
Timing is key. If you want to efficiently make money you gotta ride out the last hype before introducing the new one.
This just really is not likely the case.
Nintendo are concerned with maximising profits, not arbitrary sales records. There has been no Switch 2 yet because the Switch is still selling well, not because they are trying to break a record.
I reckon they're getting games ready. They can't announce games for a new system before announcing the system and BOTW showed that you want a good launch. The next 3D Mario maybe another smash game, metroid prime 4, anouther donkey kong country. The switch had lots of great games at launch and nintendo (should) know that's key.
Hopefully it's not just that and they're actually waiting until cool games are ready lol
Them getting to top the best selling console list COULD be spun as a marketing hit piece as well, though. Being able to tout the Switch 2 as "The sequel to the best selling console of all time" would certainly be a helluva statement to use for a marketing campaign.
1. Don't bork up the branding. "Switch 2" or "Super Switch", just something clear and obviously new hardware.
2. Give the top 10+ games (and Xenoblade!) an update to run nicer on the new hardware.
3. Make sure third parties have dev kits in advance. Make it easy on the big sellers.
This system should be a slam dunk.
Branding isn't as important as people are making it out, so long as they market it properly. The problem with Wii U was not the name, it was the horrendous marketing that absolutely did not make it clear that it was the Wii's successor and not just a peripheral.
On its own something like the Super Switch could very easily be misconstrued as a "Switch Pro", but basically any sane name would work if they make it clear that it's their next gen system.
"Or a Pokemon that looks like a... PS3 game?"
Gonna need a burn heal for that critical hit.
Calling it the Super Switch would not only be really catchy (alliteration) and immediately obvious (self-explanatory), but it would also be a cute nod to the SNES.
Edit: Okay, I get it. You guys don’t like the name. I just think Switch 2 is dumb, but I can’t really come up with a better one. I’m sure Nintendo has given it plenty of thought and it will have a good name.
We could have to call it “super” for short tho😅. That sounds so lameee
Super Switch could work. It’s simple, yet pays homage to the SNES.
Sorry, that’s a no from me. I appreciate the name’s nod to Nintendo’s classic console but “Super Switch” sounds too much like “revision” hardware of a console already on the market. It needs to be easy to understand to the average buyer that it’s new!
The SS?
@@EmsionProductions What would you call it?
Games. That’s the key. We need a new Zelda, 3D Mario, DK, Etc. This is why the Switch hit the ground running. I didn’t buy a Wii U because all it seemingly had was ports for the longest time.
Also the 3ds's poor launch could have spooked people
And Metroid Prime 4. Don't forget Metroid Prime 4. Never forget Metroid Prime 4. We need Metroid Prime 4. Have I said Metroid Prime 4 enough? Maybe just once more for luck - Metroid Prime 4. Phew! Okay, I'm done. 😊

Megamind reference?
@@PowerGem3000We've been waiting for it as long as people have been waiting for half life 3. But we've gotten a title screen already so it can't be taking that much longer. Can it?
Haven't watched the video yet (I'll watch it after work!), but coming from a die-hard Nintendo fan, I think that the Switch's success was lighting in a bottle. The combination of its quirks, being the first of its kind, the 2020 pandemic and the release of Animal Crossing at a time where millions of people were stuck at home with nothing to do, I think that the Switch was absolutely perfect for its time and place. Do I think it's *impossible* for Nintendo to achieve greater success with a future console than their success with the Switch? No - but I don't think the immediate successor will have the same level of success.
I think Nintendo is in a weirdly familiar bind - when I was a kid, seemingly *everybody* had a Wii - and if they didn't, they had someone in their family or friend circle that did - or they at least played one at some point. I think this was crazy at the time, because being a "gamer" or playing videogames in general still sort of had a stigma, or was not as mainstream as it is now. Looking back on it, it was really special that it had such an intense cultural impact - it's like this unifying experience so many people have had that they can share together, regardless if a person "identifies" as a gamer or not. It was something we all experienced at some point. And now, looking at the Switch, I have met so many people who have a Switch or who have played one, even though they themselves "don't play videogames". Many of my friends who aren't really "gamers" in a sense, have a Switch and I've gotten to experience really special moments with them playing games together, or even just striking up conversations about which game they're currently playing or which ones they've tried. It might be a while before we have this unifying, cultural experience again that reaches beyond the realm of self-identified "gamers".
With all that being said, all the "non-gamers" that played the Wii didn't move onto the WiiU, they moved onto whatever the next cool thing was (phone games) or they just stopped playing games in general. I think Nintendo is in a tricky spot again, because I sincerely have a hard time believing the near 140 million people that all bought a Switch are ready to hop into the Switch 2. I myself am ready and excited, but I'm always keeping up with what's happening in the gaming world. Your average person who bought a Switch during the pandemic for something to do? I don't think they're going to be paying attention, but I could be wrong.
In 2022 there were over 72 million kids in America alone. Since the launch of the Switch, children went from age 5 to 12, age 3 to 10, from birth to age 7... I wonder how many new Switch sales are going to kids who became old enough for their first game console? Just feel like it's an interesting thing to think about. The long lifespan of the Switch made it accessible to three of my nieces/nephews, when at launch, they were too young (or not even born!).
I can tell you the same thing happened with many people having a Wii as a kid not their parents not getting a Wii u and buying the switch themselves
Reminder that the video game crash of '83 was mostly a North American phenomenon. Just like the layoff crisis we're seeing now, mostly confined to North America. Japanese studios like Nintendo and Capcom aren't laying off employees but are instead giving raises.
i mean in japan you can't really do layoff's it just isn't allowed legally
Japanese companies also have a stronger cultural incentive to not have layoffs. Many businesses prioritize job security, viewing their employees as vital components of the company’s long-term success rather than temporary or expendable resources. This outlook manifests in a general reluctance to lay off staff. Instead, companies prefer internal reassignments, temporary salary adjustments, or even short-term business model pivots to preserve their workforce. But then on the flip side they have a horrendous work culture expecting people to work themselves to death so..
Sega had lays today, right before Arlo posted. Don't know where those layoffs hit.
@@BLitzRunner77 it was probably Sega of America if I had to guess. Unfortunately the western wings of Japanese companies aren't run the same way.
I always find it weird how people portray the crash as this worldwide thing, when it really wasn't? This is also ignoring the fact that Master System sold better than the NES in other countries such as Europe.
Put some respect on Sega.
I agree. I think it will be like the transition from DS to 3DS. A decent successor but still not the same success.
Considering how bad the 3DS launch was, Nintendo would rather not do that.
I can't wait for the switch 2. I grew up poor, and honestly I've never had the opportunity as I grew up to get a console at launch between college and starting a family.
This will be the first console I'll have ever bought on launch day. I really hope its just a more powerful Switch.

12:36 "They eased up on the weird" meanwhile showing the weirdest mario game on the switch
There's a big difference between the weirdness of wonder, and Nintendo's historic weird hardware. A weird software release that plays on what is effectively traditional hardware is a much easier sell than games that are "forced" to be weird because the hardware has gimmicks that you have to work around to make a traditional game.
Wonder could have released on PS5/xbox/PC and been the same game, Game and Wario (the Wii U warioware) can't exist on anything but the wii u.
Weird in the context of how the game fits into the broader audience and market. Weird in terms of format and feature set.

That's also a very weird one especially for the Mario franchise, but at the same time I remember many nintendo or just games channels praising Wonder for being just such a fun and weird game even more so than Mario + Rabbids. Even Arlo in his reaction kept mentioning how it was weird which was great@@silvermoon2608
It's the click. That sound... Genius. I don't know why, but that Switch click is so satisfying....
I like to think when the switch blew up its like the party scene in wolf of wall street but with japanese men.
My expectation is that we'll see a 3DS situation. The original DS was a phenomenon and the 3DS had a struggle to fill it's shoes, especially with it's rough launch. But it still did eventually become a hit with some fantastic titles even if it wasn't quite as good as the original DS.
I feel the Switch successor is going to be similar, I doubt it'll have the same launch issues that the 3DS had either, so it won't even has to fight as hard to get there, but I also don't think it'll sell the same numbers as the Switch.
People always bring up the 3DS as proof that Nintendo's handheld successors sell less but they ignore the GBA. The GBA had a very short life, but during its life it was outselling the original gameboy.
I don't see that happening. There is really no competition right now(Xbox is still a dead brand and PS5 is under performing), unless they launch like the 3ds/Wii u(bad marketing, overpriced, and no system sellers) then Nintendo has an easy path to keep it up
Honestly, I kinda hope this happens because it'll help curb Nintendo's ego. They've gotten very egotistical again from the Switch success and are in due for a new humbling.
@@noodleman4555 But who can humble them? If Sony do it, they will do the same thing they always do when they get over confident and charge 3x as much for a console that does little more than the 360 at a third of the price, with all the same hardware issues but worse customer "support" because they know we'll buy again anyway.
Microsoft? Yeah, they'll do it when SEGA makes a Dreamcast successor.
Problem is, we lose either way.
i highly doubt it. nintendo has learned a lot of lessons since that era and knows what not to do. also the ds and wii were entirely different audiences so it isn’t really even comparable

I would really avoid the name Switch Pro, because it makes it seem like a beefier model of the same generation, especially since Sony did it with PS5 pro. I'm all for Switch 2 myself.
@@NeilHaskins switch pro or Switch 2 all better names than the silly super Nintendo Switch.
Anything with BC will mean I'm buying a lot of old Switch games because there's still some from 2022 that I didn't get yet.
It would also mean that titles like Tears of the Kingdom will sell for the next 7 years.
For me I have issues with the Switch and Nintendo:
1. The transition between generations was terrible. Going from Wii U to Switch was atrocious, I spent $700 on a Wii U setup in 2015 just for them to announce the Switch a few months later. I did not want to re-buy games I just bought like Super Mario World, Mario Kart 8, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Hyrule Warriors. Even worse, the game that was supposed to be a Wii U exclusive, Breath of the Wild, was now cross-generation. My investment was almost a total waste, what a facepalm. Nintendo offered no help or recompense for fans who actually bought the Wii U. Meanwhile the 3DS had an ambassador program to reimburse fans who bought the 3DS at increased price in it's first year. Maybe Nintendo just changed for the worse after the passing of Iwata in 2015. Nintendo needs to understand it's ridiculous to expect former Wii U owners to spend (cumulatively) about $200 on an individual game + DLC for both Wii U and Switch and with no save transfers. The Switch needs to have very good support and transition between generations.
The only saving grace is that Wii U is pretty great as a modded console with hundreds of games and Wii U, DS, and GameCube compatibility
2. Third party games are both more expensive and worse on Switch. For anything besides first party titles, you get a worse experience and pay just as much money for Switch versions. For people arguing portability in 2017, you could always have gotten a laptop or something and used Steam. Since people already don't care and will buy terrible Switch ports anyways, I don't think third party needs to be a concern for Nintendo, fans don't care about things like price or performance
It took me years (and Smash Ultimate) to finally get a Switch and I only play Smash, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon. For me, the Switch is only worth it for services like Pokemon Home and games that have Switch Online features. Emulation is my preferred way to play Smash and Mario Kart and enables much better multiplayer through PC apps like Parsec
Yeah, not saying the Switches are expensive, but it would be nice to see a price drop. Also, be nice to see Player Selects return? I think Nintendo could drop the price on some of their first party stuff.
Yeah, it's weird they haven't had price drops of any kind for the switch, whether hardware or software.
It could have something to do with all the inflation recently as keeping them the same price could be hurting their profits enough, but if they announce a switch successor soon, it could be the perfect time to release a line of Nintendo selects so people could get some last few games they missed before leaving the switch behind.

I like when Arlo tells video game business bedtime stories.
Honestly, Nintendo engineered itself into a corner with the Switch.
They merged a hendheld and a home console successfully, with like half a dozen controller setups. How are they supposed to back out of this without disappointing the customer expectations that have adapted to that? The Switch is basically a borderline solved format, and anything trying to beat it can only be detail improvements. But the general format will prevail.
I would be very surprised if the next console will deviate significantly from the Switch.
A nice addition would be some of the social features that systems like the 3ds had. I loved streetpass and a nice communal hub creates a fun social space.
My favorite thing was getting home everyday after classes and using other people's miis in the plaza games.
YES! And a more fun interface like the 3ds. The 3ds had great background themes, fun downloading animations with the games being in gift boxes when they're done. Then the switch has black and white with the most bland and purely functional interface ever

I personally think that all Nintendo has to do is market it as original and fresh for it not to be a flop
That was part of the Wii U's problem. Confusing branding that made people think it was an expensive add-on to the Wii and not something new entirely.
You forgot to mention one important aspect: The Steam Deck. When the Switch launched it didn't have any competition as a hyrid console. Hardcore gamers that don't care about Nintendo games will have switched (pun not intended) in droves by now and won't be coming back.
Only like 10 people own a steam deck, I think they gucci 😂😂😂

the switch was at its peak hype and there was no other new console in the market which drove millions of casual people to buy switches for them and their kids to play during lockdown.
that's never gonna be the same for the next generation (hopefully 😅)
I feel the switch was Nintendo's second wind after the Wiiu. If they learned their lesson from being a market leader in the Wii era, they can't add more gimmicks to an already gimmicky console. The best they can do is introduce more power and quality features like chats and lobbies. A hybrid console is enough gimmick.
Agreed!
A hybrid console is enough gimmick!!
Nope they will make it also be a hat and be 10 years behind on power and take a format that's also out of date and have ass internet and a controller that you still can't play street fighter on out of the box so you need to buy a extra one from Nintendo
Sorry for the rant but they have stung me quite a bit over the years
@@MrKingkz this is the big fear rn ngl
@@pinguman13I just don't know why they can't just make a normal games console without Nintendoing all over it I sometimes wonder if they hired the guys who made the 32x for sega to make there console decisions
It is tough to surpass a project that made it a BIG HIT. What I hope Nintendo doesn't do is repeat the same mistakes with the Wii U.
What were the mistakes with the Wii U
@birdflox1337 Outside of bad commercials.
The Wii U wasn't revolutionary and relied way too much on casual crowd who moved on. Not to mention, the Wii U was underpowered like hell. Third Party games jumped ship to the PS4 and Xbox One immediately even before the Wii U made it to the 2nd year.
Not to mention, there have been lackluster first-party games like Mario Party 10, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, Star Fox Zero, and many more.
And the BIGGEST one that costed the Wii U: Game drought. For every Super Mario or Zelda being released today, you won't get another hit Wii U game until many MONTHS later without barely anything to keep gamers busy. It was bad.
There's alot of videos like Arlo who talks more in depth on the failure of the Wii U. And it almost cost Nintendo to go bankrupt.
@@captainseg My guess would have been that the giant and expensive Wii U gamepad was just a plain bad idea and drove up costs way higher without actually making the console any stronger. That certainly doesn't seem like it will happen again, and I have no reason to believe Nintendo doesn't have a lot of games planned for the next console, so I don't really understand why people compare this situation to the Wii U so often. I just don't think this could go that badly again.
@@captainseg Another thing that made it unsuccessful is the confusing marketing for it. Customers were wondering if the gamepad was an addon for the wii.
@@captainseg I have a Wii U and I love it so much more than the switch. I don’t care if I’m in the minority but I think the Switch is Nintendo’s worst console. I still play my Wii U every day but I haven’t touched my switch in weeks except once to watch Hulu on it
12:35 love the ironic edit. "Eased up on the weird.", but show Mario Wonder.
Mario Wonder has pretty standard platformer gameplay for the most part.
@@VitalVampyr Did we play the same game? The badges? The wonder flowers?!? Those effects aren't standard. Besides my comment wasn't about the "standard" gameplay. It was about the jump cut to Mario Wonder after the mention of less weird which Wonder definitely isn't.
Edit: spelling
Nintendo is the only one of the big 3 capable of repeating their success again. Mostly because they have first party titles that are only playable on Nintendo consoles and capture a big chunk of the audience. XBOX and PS first party titles are mostly just games for older players and it doesn’t help Sony that they killed most of their fun IPs to only release games like SpiderMan and live service crap.
I’ll probably buy it when it comes out. I remember like 4 years ago deciding not to get the switch because I thought that they’d probably announce a new Gen console by next year. I was so so so wrong.
tbh I don't think it's gonna be that same lightning in a bottle the switch is. For as much as we complain about switch being underpowered, many people are still plenty satisfied with it, especially with it having a large variety of games on it as is. That said, I think as long as they play their cards right and smoothly phase into the next console, they should be fine.
I'm one of those people who don't have a switch and am not willing to buy one this late in the cycle, but will probably buy the follow up. I'm really hoping for backwards compatibility
As I started watching this video, my mind went back to the one you posted when the Switch came out wondering about the new generation and memorializing the Wii U era. Boy if we could throw this video in a capsule and launch it back to the past, how wild would it have been to have known what a sweeping success the Switch would be?!
18:34 I loved Skyward's motion controls and it hurts every time I'm reminded how many people hate them...
For me, Link had always been left-handed, so when Skyward Sword made Link right-handed by default and had no left-handed mode for us lefties, it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. Even if I wanted to play it, I can't.
@@ISV_Damoclesi was bothered at first too when Twilight Princess came out but i got used to it. In reality, I’m not sure i could handle using a joystick with my right hand to make sword swings as needed.

I would guess it’ll be a DS to 3DS situation. Maybe a bit better. 85 million by the end would be real great.
Depends. If it is purely just a switch 2, nothing new, just more power, It might either do alright, but it could also be a huge flop. I could see it being fewer than 75m if its just a power upgrade.
WDYM 7 YEARS????? DIDNT IT JUST COME OUT LIKE 3 YEARS AGO??? 😭
Hahaha yup
The most likely outcome I think will happen is that they will have a *moderately* successful console that isn't Switch levels of hype but will still be enough to keep Nintendo and the fanbase satiated. The launch titles will be something to keep an eye on as they will show if the console is "worth it" to the average consumer. Breath of the Wild was that title for millions of people, let's hope they can have something similar for their next system.
The market is trending harder then ever towards games that Nintendo specializes in, one time purchases that aren't riddled with microtransactions and scams, we're watching in real time those games developing a true backlash from gamers. People are just tired of trickster AAA shenanigans, a thing that Nintendo has built its empire entirely by avoiding. I fully believe they'll continue to build good will and faith amongst gamers by just releasing "Switch again, but more powerful" and doing what they've always done. They don't need to do anything else, imo.
Switch 1 succeeded because it had features everyone wanted (portability, couch co-op) and its amazing 2017 lineup.
Switch 2 has got to deliver on features again and this time, it's backwards compatibility. Every other console makes maintaining a digital library relatively cheap and easy, and if Nintendo ignores that or proposes some scummy alternative, they're going to lose some people.
Highly likely it will be backwards compatible. On one of the earning calls, the Nintendo president basically confirmed it that they will try to use the person's Nintendo Online account for it.
It needs to be backwards compatible with the PHYSICAL games too, or give you a free download of every switch game you own physically...
@@TheRealNintendoKidit prob won't be due to the whole mkg switch dumper situation.
I was so hoping you'd make the gag you were setting up at the end, and I'm so happy you said it
This should be a slam dunk
1. Add enough power to the Switch that it’s capable of making games that look and sound at PC quality if not better(atleast try)
2. Add more apps like streaming, ease of access to the internet, more functions and features to existing apps like adding chat to switch, etc.
3. Sell fun parts that could connect to the Switch like an attachable keyboard and mouse, attachable speaker, etc.
4. More third party games
5. Be able to move downloaded games and data from Switch 1.
6. Backwards compatible for Switch 1 games.
7. Fix that friggin drift!
Call it Switch 2, have it be backwards compatible, launch it with Gamecube coming to the online service, better online, roughly Steam Deck Power, another console/handheld hybrid, new 3D Mario at launch, and new Metriod Prime 4 holiday season launch. This is the recipe for a very successful next Nintendo platform.
Super Switch. Get that x/millennial nostalgia money lol
I just want the Switch 2 to be another console usuable as a handheld. Playing games like Zelda, Skyrim and Doom while chilling on the couch or in bed is just the best, lol.
Dude, I’m sill astounded by the puppetry Arlo has on display. It’s so convincing!
Its awsome to see nintendo do good again. A lot of my friends who kind of stopped playing games with the Wii/ DS bought a switch. I was honestly suprised to see how many of my friends have one.
12:37 “They’ve eased up on the weird” as he’s showing Super Mario Wonder footage, which is probably the weirdest Mario Game to date.
Mario has always been "weird" and creative. But Wonder was very simple and "normal" in terms of gameplay.
All they need to do is make a more powerful switch, fix the horrible usb c protocol implementation, add analog triggers and make it fully backwards compatible while working on their online service. Multiple size options would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath for that
If they can do all of that, they'll have a guaranteed winner
Building cohesive stories over multiple games in a series would be a nice start. Especially in the case of Zelda.
And go all in on key IPs like Metroid and Donkey Kong. Give the high end experience, not just 2D types.
Honestly if switch 2 isnt backwards compatible then i will likely hold off until there is a decent enough line up on it
Although we’ll have to see how well they’ll act on it, it’s worth pointing out that one of the big things Furukawa’s actually said about the next console by this point in investor meetings is that priority number 1 in it’s development has been to make sure that it isn’t the Switch U. Specifically he implied that there was a much longer R&D process than most other Nintendo consoles.
From the sound of it the new console will have a new “thing” to it, but they’ve been trying to make absolutely sure that it’s 1, actually useful, and 2, immediately clear why it’s useful.
Imo i think that if a "Switch2U" is released, historical patterns suggest, that it won't be nearly as big
3ds
The Wii U's failure was almost exclusively because of its name, not it's controller. People had already moved on from the Wii and assumed the *U* was just a thing for the same Wii. I love the lil Pokemon sting at the end, they need to start putting in some effort.
That article claiming Nintendo being richest company in Japan is 100% false, when you can easily check Nintendo and Sony market cap and Sony is almost twice as big.... And Toyota is twice as big as Sony... Sigh
With enough marketing, good first year games, and a catchy title then yes
A more powerful Switch with full backwards compatibility and even greater 3rd party support is all I can ask for, really. I don't need or even want anything else. If Nintendo releases a system like that and it is successful, it could end up being the single greatest system of all time. I genuinely believe that.
I would be happy with a amore powerful switch that delivers higher resolution in handheld mode. 4k in dock mode would very nice but not essential. Backwards compatibility also important with existing switch. Finally, new SOC for new gen games, Bluetooth for headphones and built in camera for video calls when playing games with friends.
Context is also really important here. The Switch had the benefit of being the cheapest console on the market when we were all locked inside during a global pandemic that happened to launch one of the biggest games that year that everyone needed. I have absolutely no doubt that a big chunk of the Switch's sales came from those circumstances, so while I also have no doubt the next Switch will sell boatloads.... I don't know if it will live up to the same hype this Switch had
I honestly think there's nothing wrong with the Switch's current business model. Being able to play console games on the go without needing to stream them from the cloud is a genuine selling point, _not_ a gimmick. Why fix what isn't broken?
All they need to do is make the Switch 2 (or Super Switch) have specs that are at the very least comparable to the PS4/Xbox One, have backwards compatibility with current Switch games, and to fill the "new gimmick" quota maybe also have proper VR support using the Joy Cons and goggles you can put the device inside.
You ain't a Nintendo fan if you're for them following the Sony route of not changing and just wanting more power. Nintendo is the only source of creativity left, I as a Nintendo fan from the NES days, WANT NEW GIMMICKS. I praise creativity, not pandering to lazy people who only praise power buff's cause they have no creativity in their bones.
@@ItApproaches You've got _some_ nerve coming out of nowhere and calling me a fake Nintendo fan. I respect their desire to keep creating new ways to play, but obviously I want them to succeed, too. They have a great thing going with the Switch, and what they have absolutely still has room to grow. Ditching what's easily their most lucrative system without a second thought would be suicide.
That's why I think exploring VR would be a good next step. Most VR tech is prohibitively expensive, but it doesn't have to be with Nintendo because they already have mostly everything you'd need for it. They already experimented with VR in Labo, what's to say they can't do it for real with a more powerful version of the Switch?
@@BlueAizu_ I have some nerve? Nah, ain't no "me" I don't exist. It's not about me, all you are interacting with is raw truth. It would not be suicide to change things drastically. Look at BOTW and TOTK, they abandoned what made Zelda, Zelda and it unfortunately went to damn well. Every system Nintendo has abandoned the last one but kept backwards compatibility for the last few systems to some degree. Reality moves forward, can't be stuck on trying to drag the past along with you. Life itself is nothing but risk after risk. Some pay off, some don't. Nintendo could have another massive failure, wont hurt them, they got 50 years worth of money in the back to try again and again. They have all the money they need, this is EXACTLY the time to be creative and try new things.
VR is trash, it's not the way. AR would be a better path to take. Labo was just an idea, no real thought was put into it. It was never planned to be a long lasting thing, just a small little thing to get a few more dollars from kids.
@@ItApproachesOh great the Nintendo fan™️ is whining about others having suggestions on what Nintendo can do for their next console
@@ItApproaches Okay first of all: Who hurt you?
Second: The DS was (and currently still is) Nintendo's most successful console. The 3DS also iterated on the DS's dual screens and touch screen, but added more features (including AR) and more hardware power. It was similar to its predecessor and could play all of its games, but still had an identity all its own. Why _shouldn't_ they iterate on the Switch like they did with the 3DS? Do _you_ have any better ideas?
an animal crossing game to coincide with the release would do numbers me thinks
Or a 3D Mario game
They fell off with New Horizons tho...
There is a rumor going around on that right now hehe and I'm sure Nintendo will want to captilize fast.
Fun fact: if Nintendo do indeed release a "Switch 2", it will be the first time ever that they've used that naming convention.
Okay, but where's that reaction and analysis video on the recent Paper Mario TTYD trailer already?! The suspense is killing me!😂
Yes! The market loves handhelds and just wants more power. Provide that, and it’ll be a massive success yet again.
Lmao “Pokémon that looks like a PS3 game” 😂
I LAUGHED AT THAT TOO😂
Honestly they could of put that shit out on the gamecube
PS3 games still look pretty good (especially the later titles).
I really hope there is back compatibility for the next Switch! Just seeing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gameplay footage makes me want to replay the whole trilogy. Ugh so freaking good.
This is a good video because not enough people talk about the novelty of the switch concept back when it released and the pandemic/acnh. I feel like the Switch 2 will comfortably sell 80mil but they'll need more than just power. They really need to convince that casual crowd why they should upgrade and that is gonna be very hard. I think tho that something nintendo has going for it compared to before is that gaming has become more destigmatized since 2017. Which means there's probably just a bigger install base to tap into compared to before. It'll be shaky tho. But I remember like back in 2020 or something nintendo patented controllers and said they wanted to innovate the controller and the way we play
Pokémon doesn’t deserve to sell anywhere as well as it does, it doesn’t deserve to sell better then most higher budget high quality turn based JRPG’s. Especially with the low quality low effort releases they push for Pokémon.
Doesn’t matter if it deserves it or not. It does sell, so it’s doing something people like, regardless of the negative gamers that cry about everything.
They count multi-versions together. Sales for Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire for example are lumped together, they don't really sell THAT much on their own, it's purely as a collective for each dual release.
It's why the single release titles like Legends Arceus sold less than half of Sword and Shield, Scarlet and Violet, Diamond and Pearl(which sold 2x Platinum), Ruby and Sapphire(which sold 2x Emerald) etc.
@@BrainWasherAttendent you realize that sales doesn’t equate to quality right? Just because most people like garbage doesn’t mean that their standards ain’t 💩

Count me down as one of those fickle customers. The Switch changed the game, but the Steam Deck upped the ante. By a lot. I haven’t touched my Switch since getting it. It may not be as simple as making a more powerful Switch.
I remember in the time between when the Switch was announced and when it released, some people were saying it would flop. One reason I remember them positing was that the launch title was a Zelda game and not a Mario game.
11:17 Still sad we never got a Zelda game that looked like that. A truly HD Zelda experience. Maybe when we finally get that Switch 2.

I really am curious if they're gonna try to continue making their consoles unique or if they're gonna just make a stronger version of the Switch. The Switch was definitely an idea approved by the late Iwata but this Nintendo is a new company.
I hope that the switch’s successor turns out similarly if not better than the 3ds was as a successor to the DS. probably won’t be as strong if a pop culture phenomenon and doesn’t reach the same sales numbers but ultimately refreshes and modernizes the product
The 3DS was actually successor to the lesser remembered DSi, yeah I know.
The 3DS had an abysmal launch, might not be the best example 😅
All they need to do is keep having a steady release schedule for good exclusives like they’ve done with the Switch and they’ll at least replicate its strong start. From there it’s up to them to carry forward that momentum.
Your points about the gimmicks really opened my eyes. All this time under the influence of bs fanmade renders I've been thinking "well they're definitely gonna give us a dual screen or fold screen or some eacky stuff like that, it's Nintendo!" yet this video made me seriously reflect on it and go "that would make no sense". The most obvious way forward is, simply, a better and improved, more powerful hybrid system with maybe some new QOL hardware features.
Nintendo doesn't even need to make games with higher graphical fidelity than they already are, just beef up the performance. More performance could mean running stably at higher framerates, or putting more things on screen. The games already look great, so just improving how they play is enough for me.
Your expectations are just in the dirt.
Things i think will give this console success 8)
1. bring back the old wii and 3ds menu/mii charm
2. give us better online features like being able to talk to friends on discord or just being able to join or invite a friend through the friends list
3. Backwards compatibility
4. hardware that can play anygame at 1080p60 and be able to play at 1440p30 at least or better 😎
5. Two big launch titles
6. Virtual console sees a facelift and going back to how it was on wii u being able to play ds,wii, gamecube games etc etc
7. Pricing needs to be cheaper than the current next gen consoles
8. Lastly the name needs to be unique or at least catchy
hey arlo!! i started watching you years ago, when i still lived in the united states, and boy, i've just gotta say, your videos always make me grin, because the vibe of each and every one of them feel like a little piece from all the way back home

I think the biggest factor is the price of it. Because the Switch 2 has something that the original did not. Competition.
The Steam Deck has been a decent success from what I know, with the biggest thing holding it back being that high price point, especially if you want to spring for more built in storage. So if the Switch 2 isn't priced competitively with the Steam Deck, it could effect the numbers.
Now I doubt the Steam Deck will keep the next Switch from being a success. But I do think it'll be a major road block from letting it recapture the original's level of success

Think about it this way parents who buy Nintendo systems for their kids probably will see the switch 2 or whatever it’s gonna be called and think it’s the same console and not buy it.
