Very admirable indeed.

    Regarding time: it's not training alone that gets the results, it's really not 45min 3x a week. Eating well, eating on time, sleeping well, sleeping on time. These are NOT easy to get right when you're working a high stress / high workload job. It's definitely possible, but staying on the ball year-round for your job, family, friends and training is challenging and I respect everyone who gets it right. Cheers!

    For the people asking about how to apply HIT prescribed by Dorian if you don't have training partner. In a recent interview, Dorian mentioned that using methods like Drop sets, rest pause, etc you can go beyond failure just like the spotter helps with forced reps to exhaust the negative. This is standard high intensity method that others have prescribed as well (Jon Meadows). You will end up utilizing 1 to 1.5 hours instead of 45 min. But within 1.5 hours you should still be able to wrap up the warmup and main workout. If it takes longer then just split it in 2 days. For example, I split leg days into 2: quad dominant and hamstring dominant. You don't have to do each body part once every 7 days. I do 5 sessions per 10 days. Some body parts are hit multiple times in those 5 sessions (e.g. calves).

    I remember when Mike Mentzers book heavy duty came out. Which I’m assuming is what Dorians routine is similar to. I sent off for it and followed the routine. It did bring me very good results especially as I was a hard gainer (natural). The thing I found though was it’s very hard to keep up that sort of training regime over a long period of time. I began to dread workouts. Going to failure and beyond, workout after workout even with plenty of rest in between is mentally taxing. The workouts might only of been thirty minutes, sometimes shorter but it was thirty minutes of extremely hard work. I personally found it better to just use that sort of training as part of the tool box of many types of workouts. That’s my experience anyway.

      @@thomashald6750 I was hopeless for ages. But as a kid I got one of those springs with two handles. The Spenby Musculator I seem to remember. I did hundreds of the basic movement all winter aged 16. In early summer I discovered that I could easily climb the rope in the school gym to the ceiling without using legs, come down, brush the floor and go straight back up. Obviously bodyweight matters. I'm about 80kg. Even when I was strong I couldn't do more than three with 42kg added, so my absolute strength was never that great. Heavy people are at a big disadvantage. But the big thing for me is a tiny imperceptible swing at the bottom on straight arms with my shoulder around my ears. That little movement means I really feel I'm pulling with my back. The angle at my elbow doesn't close that fast, and it isn't fully closed at the top. I'm not chesting the bar, but I sort of gesture towards it. If you're hanging straight under the bar immobile by your fingers, and it's all bicep, you're screwed. If you're using outdoor steel kit getting your hand quite far over the bar is a good way to take your biceps out of it and use your back. Those slippy chrome bars are a waste of time. It needs to be something you can hold onto.

      hi James - I have been applying his HIT method as best I can without a spotter for some years now. Without a spotter, many/most exercises you can't go to true failure as you said - so I just go as far as I feel safe. Some machines will allow you to push further into muscle fatigue since there's no risk of crushing yourself if you run out of steam mid-rep (chest press machines with 2 separate handles for example). What I do these days is basically start with leg day, then a 3 day split of chest/biceps, back/abs, shoulders/traps/triceps heavy then do them again with about half weight but slow up and slow down with as much focus on the muscle contraction and stable correct form as possible. This kicks my butt.

    • @walterhaller4245
      @walterhaller4245 Před 2 lety +1

      instead of doing forced reps, do a regular dropset, mechanical dropset, rest-pause. any technique to ramp up the intensity, and adjust the training according to you. the training style is HIT, but there's no set way of it, the only universal thing of it it that the intensity level needs to be high and maximised, nothing else in mandatory.

      I sometimes have a light weight bar or dumbbells ready, so when I hit momentary muscular failure I'll try to get a few light ones. A few pushups after bench is good. Some exercises you can cheat up a few more positives to get a couple negatives. One thing I've done to put on a lot of shoulder muscle is to do shoulder flys and other stuff for 20 minutes strait with 2.5 pound weights. Side flys, fronts, rears, weighted punches, weighted karate blocks, anything you can do to keep those delts burning. Good pump up music is a must. Awesome that you're lifting, I'm going to have to check out your channel.

      You have 2 ways: 1 ask someone at the gym to spot you. 2 prepare to dropset with 30% less weight with dumbbells and similar. Every lift has some way of applying HIT, you need a bit of ingenuity and creativity

    agreed with everything Dorian said here - been training natural for about 10 years and although my gains haven't been maximized due to some mystery health issues and lack of spotter (so I can't always train to true failure safely), you absolutely can use the HIT approach and see great improvement. Mid 30's now and as long as I get plenty of rest/recovery I'm training pretty much 7 days per week so long as the body feels strong and ready for it. I'm sure if I had a spotter to go to failure I'd need to cut down to 3-4 days but this keeps me happy and healthy.
