    I have been shooting the .357 Sig for years in a Sig Nightmare because I prefer the 1911 style trigger. Correct me if I am wrong but you mentioned this round is necked down from a .40 S&W to. 9mm projectile. Although somewhat true (it is a .355 round) I believe the casing Is actually a 10mm shortened to a .40 since the thicker casing is required to handle the higher pressures. This results in the superior penetration and velocities this round provides over the 9mm and .40 S&W.

      Don’t get G32. Not a good idea. Get a 229 in 357 sig. I know they don’t make legion anymore, but there are other models of 229 available in 357 sig. Just don’t get G32 if you want to shoot a lot.

      I agree on lethality, but there is another side. 357 sig is just more fun to shoot for some people. I really don’t care that 9mm is lethal enough now days, I realize it. I have 2 legion 229 pistols, one in 9mm and one in 357 sig. And it’s like driving a Toyota Corolla vs driving an Acura NSX. When I’m looking forward to my gun day, I’m not really looking forward to shooting 9 mil, it’s a little boring, I’m thinking 357 sig every time, it’s just fun for me. To each is own and I respect everybody’s opinion.

    Love the 357 sig, you get increased velocity and energy over the 9mm and it will punch through barriers that neither the 9mm (due to velocity) or the 40 (due to diameter). I have conversions for a couple of my sigs, you just have to watch their parts list, they don't keep then in stock. Totally agree about the legion series, you pay more but you get more, the gray group trigger kit and xray 3 night sights for starters...
    I also got a 357 p320 and put the X 5 grip frame on it, this too is a amazing gun.

    Great intro to this video! I totally agree with your assessment on the LEGION and dig the fanboy outfit!! I also have the 229 in 357 with a 40 barrel on the side. I do not know who thought of that worthless slide release but its gotta go in favor of a normal one. I do find that for my hands the trigger is still a bit far forward in DA mode. Thinking of installing the short reach trigger. I have a pair of P250's and they run like scalded apes. Love the DA on the P250 model. The 229 Legion pull is very sweet as well.The reset is scary short and light on the Legion. Overall a great gun and superb color scheme in PVD Grey. Thanks for the review and humor!

    I recently bought the P220 Legion and I have a P229 357 waiting for me at my local shop to be picked up. So far I really really like the 220. Three things that I really like about the Legions are the undercut at the rear of the trigger guard, the G-10 grips, and the checkered front strap. The gun really stick to my hand. I don't mind that the slide stop has been trimmed down, because of my training I don't really use it anyway. The slide stop on SIG's has been problematic for me due to my grip as I tend to deactivate it after the last round and the slide won't stay open. This trimmed down version seems to have taken care of that. The one thing that I don't really care for on the Legion is the trimmed down decocker. It's a bit too small for me, but its not a deal breaker.

    Bought a Sig P228 (AKA M11A1) 9mm a few years back and am currently thinking of adding the P229 specifically for the 357SIG to keep my M11 and P227 (45ACP) company. I am a huge fan of the round and often carry my GLOCK models G22 and G23 converted to 357 Sig via barrel swaps. While I am a huge Sig fan, I haven't been bit by the "Legion" bug in their series.

    @LoneStarLawman Před rokem +1

    Sig is only manufacturing the P229 Legion, in 9mm right now. My guess is that the Legion in .40/.357sig is not selling, because of the much more expensive ammo .40/.357sig is. 9mm is much cheaper, so going with 9mm P229 Legion pistols only, is a logical business decision.

    Otherwise the G10 grips are awesome and so are the sights. I have to admit that for a daily this is a great firearm. Iam actually thinking of getting making the legion 226 my next purchase. Yes, Iam a dog fan boy.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  Před 7 lety +2

      I have, actually. The gray seems prone to scratching easily and there are a few areas where it is noticeable. Ont the vertical front of the trigger guard, where the holster retention point causes abrasion; On the left side of the grip front strap where my ring contacted it when shooting left-handed; Along the front edge of the rails where wear is normal. What you get is a gold/bronze color that seems to be beneath the gray. It will be interesting to see if they are able to figure that out and prevent it in the future.

      Actually, I do. The new grip texture is excellent for the range and would be great on a OWB carry gun, but might be a little too abrasive and uncomfortable for IWB against bare skin. A rubber Talon would maintain high grip quality and make it soft against the body.

      Justin Opinion
      I understand !! Love Talon Grips !!! Gun Manufacturers should either hook up with Talon and have their guns come with the grips pre-installed or do it themselves !!!
      Example: my 9mm PPQ-M2 felt Wonderful Before I installed Talon rubber grips and Incredible After !!!
      I didn't think I could have improved that gun.

    Is 9mm equal to or superior to 357 Sig? Let’s think about that for ourselves for just a moment, shall we? I get it that some people pick a side and feel the need to defend their choice, but not to the extent of regurgitating pure nonsense that they themselves were misinformed on.
    Some ammo manufacturers actually have loads that even surpasses the ballistics of traditional 357 magnum performance. Underwood's 357 SIG Gold Dot for example. Also because it’s a bottleneck cartridge it has the added benefit of feeding more reliably than other pistol rounds. It’s flat shooting and will punch through auto glass like it was butter.
    It’s literally a 9mm projectile “except” because it’s 200-300 fps faster it penetrates most barriers as well as 10mm yet doesn’t over penetrate flesh, which is welcomed to aid in avoiding collateral damage.
    It has a flatter trajectory that in turn makes it more accurate and potent at distance. Though the penetration is no greater than 9mm in flesh, the cavity damage is much more devastating making it more likely to stop a threat with less shots.
    Underwood has a 357 Sig 65g Xtreme Penetrator round that exceeds 2250+ fps out of just a 6” barrel. I don’t know of any other semiautomatic pistol caliber that has rounds capable of such velocities from a handgun. It goes straight through a 3A panel even. At those velocities normally temporary cavities tear.
    One of the most attractive benefits of owning a 357 Sig is the ability to convert the firearm to 40 S&W & 9mm with nothing more than a simple barrel swap. You also normally can do a 357 Sig or 9mm conversion if you own a 40 S&W firearm as well. That means you can train on whatever platform you’re most comfortable with and whatever ammo is the most affordable, and no it isn’t always 9mm. That means that you are less hindered by ammo shortages… and when you’re done training simply swap out the barrel and ammo back to 357SIG and you’re all set. Sadly on a native 9mm firearm you don’t have any option to do a conversion.
    I never understood what’s not to like about 357 SIG… well other than ammunition availability and cost being the only negatives I guess, but it is the better round.
    Keep in mind that when you compare 9mm +P or +P+ to try to achieve 357 Sig performance, 357 Sig is actually cheaper than 9mm. When I searched +P+ to get as close to 357 Sig performance as possible, it was more expensive than a standard 357 Sig JHP round.
    9mm +P+ is still only 1300 fps in 124 grain. That’s 50 fps slower than the lowest end 125 grain Sig round at 1350 fps and we’re comparing +P+ 9mm ammo here. Yet the bare minimum 357 Sig performance isn’t even achievable and this is usually attempted in a platform that isn’t even recommended for +P+ or even +P at times.
    I say it’s best to swap to a 9mm conversion barrel when training and back to 357 Sig right before you’re all done to finish up with 357 to cut that expense down.
    In most cases the recoil of any superior round can be overcome with training. I do understand that some people are recoil sensitive and are more comfortable with 9mm or other lower recoiling rounds. I understand some just prefer the thought of higher capacity. I totally understand your decisions. But let’s not bash any superior round because you prematurely decided on a specific one.
    There’s nothing wrong with 9mm it’s awesome, but let’s be clear… it isn’t equal to 357 Sig and the few extra rounds it’s capable of holding in a magazine over 357 Sig definitely doesn’t make it the superior choice. For myself these 357 Sig advantages make 9mm less desirable. How about for you?

    Granted this is the first hundred, but I've seen you shoot tighter groups with less fancy guns at longer distances. And I thought the 357 was hailed for its accuracy.

  • @chouyi007
    @chouyi007 Před 6 lety

    At the end when you were shooting through the chronograph, you were probably too close to it, and the blast was messing up the readings. When I first chronoed my Gen 4 Glock 31, it was giving me similar velocities, but when I backed it up to 10 yards they became correct (going from around 1,150 to 1,425).

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  Před 6 lety

      Very possible. I try to stay at a consistent distance of about 12 feet or so, but I'm no expert. You need to see the video where I actually shot the chrono with a 10mm round from the Kriss Vector. Forgot how much lower the bore was to the optic I mounted at such close range.

    • @chouyi007
      @chouyi007 Před 6 lety

      Anyone who says they haven't shot any part of a chronograph either (i) hasn't chonographed hardly any rounds before, or (ii) is lying. I noticed particularly about the .357 Sig that its blast causes that problem with the Caldwell chronograph, even more so than my 16"-barreled AR. Also, if you're into .357 Sig, you should really give 800X a try. I worked up a load that is crazy low-pressure (34,000psi), and yet sends a 125gr Gold Dot or Flat Point FMJ out of my stock Glock 31 at 1,500fps.

    357 sig is NOT a necked down 40 short and weak, it's actually a slightly shortened and necked down 10mm. Home brewing the 357 by necking down 40s can result in dangerous pressures.

    • @bryanm435
      @bryanm435 Před 8 lety

      It's a normal SigSauer "Combat" sight-picture man. Been looking and called about a hundred gun stores to try and find a Legion. No go within hundreds of miles around me, they are extremely hard to find. Good luck trying to get a FFL to not make a "don't even know when" comment if you inquire about ordering one. BUTTT - I JUST (my thermold case & coin hasn't even arrived yet) picked up my P226 Legion(DA/SA) based solely off watching Justin's Legion vids and the way he spoke so highly of them, wandered into a random store in Searcy, AR and they had one sitting there, (that I later found out hadn't been in the glass case for over 20 minutes) and held it for 2 seconds before concluding it was the best feeling pistol that had ever grace my palm, then I pulled the trigger & melted into a pile of $1400 dollar cash-wielding goo! They are that nice. My pulse quickens, and it's hard NOT to get up in the morning and start playing with it like a kid in a candy store! Actively Gushing!
