    Picked up a P229 40S&W made in 1994 a few years ago and it is my first Sig. I was way more accurate with it first time out than Glocks I had used for years. Sent it off to Sig for the Service Plan and it came back with a new slide due to them not being able to remove the firing pin retaining pin and new night sights. The P229 in 40 is amazing! I really like the Legion sights though! I favor a front sight that really stands out, like the stock sights on my FNS40.

    What makes it a legion? I have one it came in a blue box and is identical to the one in the video aside from the rail and the emblem on the grip.

    good to see things are still rolling at bville - i had quite a collection of .40's - then swapped one of their barrels to .357 sig and found the accuracy was much better- i then switched another barrel out and found it to be true on the other gun as well- now i have all .357 sigs, hahahaha- didnt know if your experience was the same or not, but the difference was very noticable

    You're running empty after 8 rounds... I counted. Why? Division capacity for a 229 (SSP) is 10+1.

  • @CableGula
    @CableGula Před 6 lety +1

    Is it worth going with the .40 over the 9mm? I’m a huge 9mm fan, but, since you can convert the .40 into .357 Sig with a barrel swap, is that really the only advantage? In your opinion, of course.

  • @MarkBadia
    @MarkBadia Před 6 lety +1

    Great video as usual! I do have a question, you can go from 357 Sig to 40 S&W, but if you bought a P229 in 40 S&W instead, can you get a 357 Sig barrel and shoot 357 Sig? I believe the pressures for 357 Sig are higher than 40 S&W, so, not sure what that means for the longevity of the gun shooting and the safety of shooting 357 Sig out of a gun meant for 40 S&W.
    Did you also have to change the recoil spring as well or just the barrel?

    • @snappingturtle1621
      @snappingturtle1621 Před 2 lety +1

      If I remember the launch of the 229 it was designed for the 357 sig round as the first sig to chamber it.
      Glock beat SIG to market with SIG’s own round but I only have one Glock a G17L kinda like todays model 34

    Only recently found your videos. I enjoy them.
    Question: I have a 229 Elite Dark with 357/40 barrels and a Legion 9mm slide with a Romeo mounted from the factory; is the Legion really worth the $ compared to the setup I already have?

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  Před 4 lety

      The Legion will likely have a better trigger, even as compared to a SRT, but that is subjective in value. Looks like you have a nice setup there - I think you're good to go! You can always buy a Legion in a completely different configuration (like a P220 10mm or a SAO, etc.) and then you are not competing against what you already have. :D

  • @glockensig
    @glockensig Před 7 lety

    I would love to get this pistol! I have an old P229 (no rail) in 357Sig. 8,606 rounds thru it in Sig representing 140 different offerings....and I have a forty drop-in barrel with 236 rounds thru it. In my mind, with 40 and 357Sig , it is never either/or, it is both !(with the simplest barrel change) I have .40 barrels for 1/2 of my 357Sigs!

  • @SammerJammer
    @SammerJammer Před 8 lety

    Excellent commentary as always! Can you comment on how manageable this gun is in 40SW compared to 357 Sig? Is there more recoil with the 40 or do they feel about the same when shooting standard FMJ target loads? Thank you

    • @snappingturtle1621
      @snappingturtle1621 Před 2 lety

      I find the 357 to be a bit snappier than most 40 rounds but I have also shot some 40’s with snappy recoil.
      I hate to say that I have more 40 ammo than 357 ammo but with the price increase in all ammo at least the 357 sig when you can find it is not twice the cost of 40’s just a bit more.

    Another great video! I am happy to see you went with the 40\357 Sig, as I have my eye on the 9mm 229 legion. I still have not seen one in person yet, but I hope I love the feel of this pistol in my hand and it does not feel to wide in the grip. Anyway, Thanks for all your time and work you put in on your channel, I enjoy watching. Beretta Sr.

    I noticed that when your dealer was shooting the pistol, it looked like he had to clear a malfunction of some type, and the slide failed to hold open.

    With a handle as wide as the sigs, no reason to not buy the p226. nearly identical to carry but more velocity, less noise, and felt recoil. Makes big differnt in 357sig which is the best verion they make!

  • @zoeyb8361
    @zoeyb8361 Před 3 lety

    When your friend shot it it had 2 malfunctions? One where it didn't return to battery and then it didn't lock back on the final round?
    What was up with that?

    • @LucasFerreira-qx6kr
      @LucasFerreira-qx6kr Před 3 lety

      Not locking back on last round isn't really a malfunction, some people rest their right hand thumb on top of the slide lock lever, making the gun unable to lock back on the last round.
      This is common on Glocks too, but with the left hand pressing the slide lock lever, for example.

  • @pinkiewerewolf
    @pinkiewerewolf Před 8 lety

    Justin, how do the P229 and the P-01 from CZ compare, or do they compare at all? I know the calibers are different but as far as function, feel, and shooting. (Or maybe you've shot the 9mm P229 enough to give... an opinion.) :)

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  Před 8 lety

      Very different, but I prefer the SIG. Comes down to the reach and feel of the trigger for me, but both are quite fine. I'd like to spend more time behind CZ's too.

    • @pinkiewerewolf
      @pinkiewerewolf Před 8 lety

      +Justin Opinion The long reach for the trigger is something CZ should change. The SP-01 ( big brother to the P-01 doesn't have that issue sonit can be done in the CZ 75 platform.
      Thanks for the reply!

    • @MrKillntyme
      @MrKillntyme Před 7 lety

      Thank you for the fast response. I recently sold my first year M&P full size in 40S&W to try something new. At NRA Atlanta I found this pistol at the Sig booth and feel in love with it. Yea it's a bit pricey but for what you get, worth it. So I thought I'd check out CZcams for some reviews. I was kinda shocked how few 229 Legion videos where posted. And all but yours, where the 9mm version. If I remember what the Sig rep said correctly, the 229 was modeled with the 40/357 caliber in mind.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  Před 7 lety

      Indeed. In fact, the P229 model was designed around the .357 SIG cartridge, or perhaps the better term is that they were co-developed. I have a few SIGs in .357 and plan to do a dedicated video to that cartridge and those pistols. My white board is full of ideas - now if I can just find time and good weather!!

      They feel very similar to me. In fact, with the P229C the .40 actually felt snappier to me. But different brands or loads of ammo can make a big difference.
