- If you're concerned about finding a gunsmith to install your custom match grade barrel, or if you're not keen on mailing your gun out to have the barrel fitted, then watch this video. Whether you are
9 years later and still useful. Great video dude.
When I get my barrel I'm following your video. I like the fact that you emphasize going slow and using the RIGHT tools for the best outcome. Some complain about all the info you give but if you didn't then there would be complaints about how you didn't explain lol. Thanks for taking the time to teach and share.
Bless your living heart, dude. My XDM was so far from "drop-in" it was scary. After three hours of stoning, assembling, and disassembling, it fits, locks, feeds and ejects--without a $65 trip plus shipping. Thank you very much.
Awesome!!! Plus you get the satisfaction of having accomplished it yourself. The gun is truly yours now :) Thank you for sharing your experience, not many folks have the patience and focus for this kind of stuff.
Cheers!
this guy sounds like Ralph Macchio
I’m ordering a BarSto barrel for my P320 suppressor host and this video is incredibly helpful. Thank you for posting this
(1) You may also need to take material off the side of the barrel where it meets up with the indexing notch on slide.
(2) I think you fitted it too loosely... if that is all you want just get a drop in.
(3) I'll take off only enough material such that the gun will NOT go into battery if you ease the slide home, but it will if you release it from the slide stop (it'll wear into a perfect fit after 200~300 rounds).
(4) your a human tool.
Daniel-san!...Show me sand the floor.
Great video, thanks!
gary shumaker .. lol no problem!
Great video. I just got done with my barrel. I used the exact same stones you recommended and they definitely looks got the job done. Although it took a little patience it was worth it in the end. The barrel now fits like a glove. I can't wait to shoot some ammo through it. Thanks for saving me the $100 plus dollars someone would have charged me.
Sir thank you for taking the time to post this video, GREAT JOB! learned alot, stay safe out there!
Hey man, I was so impressed with just the first 1/4 of your video that I had to stop it and thank you. I'm looking up conversion barrels for my Sig 229 chambered in .357 and during this politically driven "pandemic," I came across your video from 7 years ago. This is the kind of video that makes me appreciate people that take the time to make a video and upload it and truly get into the fine details of craftsmanship and/or detailing the refinement of a working part. I have learned two things already that I never expected to learn. The first one was about the filing stones. I am going to start to look for those immediately. Secondly, I have always wished that I had a vice in my house. I always thought I had to bolt one down in my garage to a wooden surface and I do most of my pistol work on my living room coffee table. The thought never even crossed my mind that I could get a smaller suction type vice. Holy shit, why didn't I think of that?! Anywho, I wanted to thank you sir for opening my eyes to more than I expected. My gratitude is sincerely intended. Thank you! Seven years later, 11-22-20
Shit I sat down for a second started watching Street Outlaws -: you going to have to watch the rest of your video later. Peace.
Agreed 8 years later...
What a great read your comment is. I’m only on the second chapter right now, but I plan on continuing when I take a shit later. Cheers.
Thank you for this….just was notified that the 40 super barrel from BarStol is ready to be shipped…I am pretty excited yet a little comprehensive of the semi-fit process…yet, I believe I can do it. my barrel will be going on my Tisa 1911. Been looking for a video like this for awhile…..thank you….have a great day from Montana
Totally agree with you! The older extractors look much better and they always worked fine for me, never had an extraction issue with any of my Sigs. Although, generally speaking, when it comes to extractors, Bigger = better (i.e. the new style probably has a longer service life) But the thing that bugs me the most about the new extractor, is the hole on top of the slide
:/
That was a great video. You hit everything well and I really appreciate the order you used and how you explained the logic. Perfect presentation to m. THX!
Thanks Mike !!
...Looks like your collection is growing !!!
Very good instructions
Very informative, thank you
I have got a semi-fit coming for a Sig P224. Thank you for sharing!
Lots of Great Info, Thanks for Posting!
Excellent video (8 years late)...lots of common sense in there. I'm curious if you ever use Dykem to be sure you're getting all of the surface on the flat surfaces. I use it (I'm also not a gunsmith and prefer to do most of my work myself -- knowing my limitations), and it's really helps to be sure the entire surface is getting stoned.
Your video was really helpful you explain things well
Perfect! Just what I needed to know. Thanks
....No doubt bro, Glock definitely wins the "easiest to modify" category !! But the "beauty contest" is all Sig baby !!!
LOL ;D
Great video, thank you! My semi-fit barrel kept the slide from sliding as well. I didn't want to take a chance machining it myself, so I sent it back to Bar-sto for proper fitting. However, it's still interesting to see what the process is like.
Thanks Danny !!
Glad to hear from you too !
Appreciate this video. Just fit my 9mm conversion barrels to my P239 & P229 .40 S&W. Just had to stone the front hood of the barrel on both. Semper Fi!
+sgtzsquad .... Right on !!
Still working for you? I'm thinking about buying the Bar-sto 9mm conversion barrel for my P229 .40
Thank you for the kind words !!
Fantastic video my friend!
Welcome back George, we missed you.
Excellent video. Very informative and helpful.
Thanks for the feedback !!
Welcome back!!!
Outstanding video tutorial. Thank you very much.
Perfect just what I needed to know! Good job thanks!
Great job - I'm going to get some match grade barrels and follow your great instructions!
Right on! Take your time and re-check fitment often while stoning. I'm here if you have any questions or run into any issues. . .
Thanks for that - getting ready to do a barrel now.
Glory2America - followed your instructions which were very good. Conversion barrel is fine; cycling Snap Caps; no problem. Thanks again; you are a Real American, Sir.
Exactly the perfect vid for me in July 2021. and so well done.
Well done!!!Great video, will take the plunge.
damn bout time good too see you sir.
Nice man! Good explanation.
Thank you man great job 👍 I used to some.machime work ,very little.alot.of fabricating a lot of ckose tolerance parts but I had blue prints,I was intimidated because no hard specs and I dont want to use Gllocks old barrel specs yhis gave me hope, thanks
Very good video
Thanks for the help,, info was great!
I was going to tex you this week....Its about time....lol good vid
Ok, thanks for the heads up!!
Thanks brother !!
Cool website !! Thanks for the tip !!!
Well I'm glad you haven't kicked the bucket was beginning to wonder
Great vid!
Great Video !!! Thanks for taking the time to do it. Very Helpful.
Great video ..,
I have a 226 in .40 and I want to convert it to a 9mm .. other than the barrel did you change the guide rod or recoil spring .?
Thank you! All these fucking Sig p229 hater videos these days. Took me some searching but I found it. All I wanted to know is exactly this video. Merry Christmas bro.
I wish you would have held them more precisely together and allowed us to actually see the difference a couple of seconds makes it hard to see the differences. Keep up the good work though.
LOL, Thanks Oscar !
Everyone is well !!
Baby is doing great, Will try to post up a family video at some point.
Anytime! Enjoy and be sure to get the grips and spring if not I dont think it'll mount.
Would you happen to know where the match target barrel has more material compared to the semi-fit?
Full SS frame... I like the jet funnel, any idea where I can get one? I had magwell grips on it for awhile, but didn't like the way the grip angle felt with those.
Question, that Sig is the Full Stainless or SS with Alloy frame either way I think the only thing missing is the Jet Funnel Magwell it'll complete it; I just love the brushed SS look but with the MagWell
So you are saying compare the after market and factory barrel?
Not quite Ralph, sounds more Pittsburgh to me.
Sounds like Philly to me.
I thought you were abducted by aliens. Welcome back! How is the new baby?
Cool man, ...the rifle vids are on que!! So far, I'm not sold on anything Kel-Tec, and their customer service gets 2 thumbs way down from me. KSG looks neat... IMO there are better choices available.
Great video!!👍 "nice and tight" that's what she said 😄
Haha right on bro !!
.. I was beginning to wonder, myself, lol ;D
I like your p226 but I dont think I like the new extractor design the old one works fine for me plus it gives it that Sig look. I think!
Sure do Buddy, Sig wont sell it unless you buy an X5, X6 custom pistol but I found a company that makes them go to rocosystem google them I tried adding the link but yt wont allow it. Inbox me your email if you cant find it.
I'll just let my gunsmith do it
So much 550 cord lol
Just use a milling machine...
You’re actually suppose to take off of the barrel hood (the part you swore not to touch)
Ummmm nope he did it exactly how Barsto says yo do it, now go back to knowing nothing Mr. KNOW-IT-ALL
@@Irishjay1025 have you ever fit a barrel hood?
Barsto specifically says to take material from the front on the P226 and P229 barrels. Check out their videos on here they make sure to explain that to people.
Yes it is. I just bought my first Glock and .308 hunting rifle. I still have a few more on the I want list. I'm waiting on a KSG (I'm on a list). I've been watching a lot of positive vids on them lately. I'd like to see some vids on the rifles you built.
Take Care
LOL
....ok I deserve that :D
I thought you just drop in and it fits?
Maybe if it's a glock. They're ak47 loose, accuracy sucks as a result but you can grab any part and drop it in without fitting.
Is this a vise review, historical device from Vietnam video, or a barrel fitting video? Why not condense this down to the particulars and just assume we can figure out we need a vise, please?
Great video. But, please do not wiggle your hands so much to emphasize as I cannot see what you are trying to show. Perhaps, lay it down, talk about it and point.
Regarding the feed ramp: the original barrel has a curved bottom yet you are honing yours flat. What effect does this have? Thanks
+Raymond Moorman . . Hi Raymond, Thanks for the feedback! As for the feed ramp, I don't remember saying anywhere in the video to "hone it flat", although it has been a couple years since I uploaded this. Can you please reference which time-frame on the video that you are unclear about? I only see the part where I mentioned that I had to "remove a little material" under the feedramp for a more precise fit. . .
Barstoprecision specifically referred to filing the flat on the bottom lug in their video. From about time 14.00 on, your demonstrated movements appeared to also be flat. If this was not intended please clarify this for me. My original factory barrel appears to be curved. I very much appreciate your making of this video for the experience you present and the questions that are answered.
+Raymond ....No problem, glad to be of service! I think I see what you mean.. On the barrel in the video, you can see how the underside (reverse side) of the feed ramp has more steel (thickness) compared to the factory barrel. This is why they call it "semi" drop-in, it's sized a little bigger, made specifically for a custom fit with accuracy being the primary objective. Conversely, a factory barrel has slightly looser tolerances, with reliability and durability as the chief goals. Our goal is to get to that happy medium... i.e. a little tighter than factory, but not too tight that it doesn't function correctly. Have you already purchased a set of stones?
Bar-Stol video says to file the rear, do not file the front.
Not sure what you're referring to, but here's the link to the BarSto video; czcams.com/video/RaYMjwILDGo/video.html ... Irv Stone very briefly illustrates the exact areas that need to be fitted. My video demonstrates the proper technique to achieve this from home. If you follow my directions carefully, fitting your barrel will prove to be a simple task.
For reference I watched this dvd: www.topgunsupply.com/bar-sto-barrels-dvd-custom-barrels-and-fitting.html. I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Oh that video is for a Glock barrels not for Sig barrels.
Lol burning fire what video are you watching?
It is called stoning not filing.
Toight.
These barrels are garbage.
Lol not according to the pro shooting sports use.
This guy talks way too much. Shut up and put the barrel in. 🤣
