- Complete removal and install including hammer spring and hammer strut and mainspring seat. Best way to remove a Sig Sauer e2 ergonomic one piece grip for gun cleaning or to swap out for different grips. The Sig E2 grip is one of my favorite grips for the P226. Together with the short trigger and SRT kit, it turns the 226 into a completely new animal. However, I tend to swap it out occasionally, to try new grips or to just produce a different feel and change the muscle memory .
Enjoy!

Just to point out for those that don't know:
When switching from E2 grips to standard screw-on grips, you do NOT need to replace the hammer spring assembly. You can and it won't hurt anything, but it is only required to swap the hammer spring assembly when you are switching from standard screw grips TO the slip-on E2 grips.
Great video!
Thanks, I was specifically looking for this information. It seemed like I should be able to leave the slimmer-profile hammer strut, as it shouldn't interfere with a grip with more room than the E2 grip, but just wanted to verify. Thanks! (ten years later)
THank you 10 years later, I was about to buy a new one
Excellent video Gloy2America.
The Sig factory installed my E2 grips and replaced the parts described in the video.
I want to remove the E2 grips and replace with 2-screw standard grips and was wondering if I had to change the hardware (hammer spring post, hammer spring foot).
So, the answer is that I DO NOT.
Thanks you Chris for this supplemental information regarding the E2 hardware.
New to the Sig community: Recently purchased a lightly used p220 police trade in. I was perplexed on removing those thin grips without the screws. While I don't have the tool you do, your video and the q- tip trick came in handy... I found the pressure from the grips squashed the q tip allowing the grip to reseat itself, so I used a hard plastic bomb instead. Still went flying! Got the grips off quickly with my hands thanks to you. The innards of the gun had been somewhat neglected. I got it pretty near detailed clean and put the grips back on for now. Waiting for checkered rosewood grips from Hogue. Also ordered the rubber grips with finger grooves for less dressy occasions. Awesome vid! Thanks again.
Nice video, thanks for taking the time. Just in case anyone watching may wish to order some of these parts I'd like to correct some of the terminology. The "hammer spring" is called the "Mainspring" the "post" is called the "Hammer Strut" and the "foot" is called the "Mainspring Seat". Thanks again for an informative video like they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
One of the best videos I've seen on CZcams. Very thorough. Much appreciated. Good job!
I usually hate whenhiw to videos take so long. But when it comes to guns, being thorough is appreciated.
Another great straight up video. Thank you.
Super clear, super informative covers every issue. Best how to video I have ever seen. Thank you
You sir are the man. My grip was 1mm off like you said and that did the trick. Cheers to you, sir.
I have smaller hands so based on my reading, the E2 Grips sounds like the solution I need to improve my shooting. Excellent Video quality. Meticulous explanation and very well illustrated in the video.
Wow, amazing tutorial. Thank you for your effort. I feel like an E2 pro already and I haven't even ordered my grips yet. Thank you.
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful and the detail really made a difference, I got stuck exactly where you thought people would and the video really saved me time.
Thank You for posting this video. I recently bought a police turn-in Sig P226 .40 with worn E2 grips. I will replace them with a new one. (?) Plenty of vids on conversion to E2 but yours is the only video I’ve found in removing the E2 grip. Appreciate it much!
Great video instructions & tips from your experience. I understood everything you said. I wish more videos were as complete as yours. Great Job!
well done, just got a P226 and P229 love this Sig world
Thank you... Your vid helped me! Just bought a new P226 with the E2 grips! Love it! Actually traded in my S&W M&P 9 for the SiG... I actual removed the Clamshell Grips and installed Sig Rosewood Grips... Looks awesome... A little more beef than the E2's but love the Rosewood on Black look!
Great video...Helped me get to where I needed to be to install an SRT trigger in my P262 NITRON. Thanks!
Great video!! I didn't have the grip tool I just used your q tip method and my thumbs. Placed thumbs in Maxwell on one side pushed grip out and placed q tip in. Did same to opposite side and slid grip off. Thanks!!
+shawn richards .... Awesome !!
Thanks for your I sight and excellent walk through on changing grips!
Great video! Takes the guess work out of the removal and installation. Thank you
+Ric Alcott . . . Glad it helped, thanks for the feedback !
Great vid and great tips. Thanks for posting these types of vids and adding your insight. They save do-it-yourselfers lots of time and aggravation, and probably even some money.
Thanks for the video. Very informative and helpful. Been thinking about putting e2 grip on my mk25 but was wondering how much of a hassle it would be. Your video cleared that up. Thanks
Another great instructional video Mr. G2A. Thanks.
Fantastic tutorial... all info, zero BS!
🤘🏼
Nicely presented. Ordered a kit today
Great video... a folded-over zip-tie works a little better than a q-tip because it has less friction.
Thank for your help. Super video.
I'm going to replace the LDC n.
Hey good to see your making videos again.Yeah pretty much lol,I'm really getting into Sig firearms now and really like the 227 and the 226 line.
Well Glad you are back!
Thank you for posting !!
...Statements like this make the effort worthwhile !!
Thank you for this video bro. Really helped a lot. I just got my buddies old P226 and get to pick it up in 8days. But I don't like the E2 grips so I want to go with different grips when I get it back.
"how you guys doing by the way, do'in ok?" lol that was awesome. Very helpful video my friend, thank you.
I did not know Ralph Macchio was into firearms.
"Every single time, the Q-tip goes flying!!"
Ha! Totally! Good info in the vid.
Very well done I love your detail a lot of videos I've watched don"t gave you that Great job
Thank you for the feedback !
...Sounds like your e2 grip may not be fully seated, try to push hard and twist it, as I demonstrated in the final 2 minutes, very common that these need to be "persuaded" sometimes. That would also explain why it appeared to be "stretched".... The grip screw holes on the frame are raised, and they push out on the e2 grip until it seats correctly (I believe this is what you saw). There should be absolutely no play when installed.
Hey Jim, good to hear from you !!
...I was just looking at a P227 today. Looks like they are starting to roll out, with only the Nitron version currently available. Sig is about 20 years late on this one, lol, but looks like it was worth the wait !!
.
Great vid! Very informative and well done.
Really good video man...! I want to get a P227, but don't really like the E2 grips. Now I know that they be swapped out and how to do it. BIG UPS TO YOU...!
Be careful not to stretch out the E2 grips when you take them off, they will never quite fit right again. The first time I took mine off to clean the gun, I torqued them way to much with the removal tool. I had to heat up the grips and bend them back down to fit tighter against the frame. They still barely move just slightly front to back. Most people wouldn't even notice, but I am a bit of a perfectionist so it annoys me. I love your Sig smithing vids.
Very informative to watch this video specially if your not use to dis assembled the grips
Great vid.... Thank you... I got big hands and I thought about switching out my MK25 just for the texture. Just like you I feel I'd need to eventually go back because I do like the original bolt hole grips with my large mitts.
Glad to see you back brother. Nice work man. God bless.
Great video,I'm thinking of getting a 226 or a 227 and would most likely change out the e2 grips for the standard or the maybe even leave them as is .
Very well explained. Good job. Thanx.
Glory,
Of the numerous instructional video's I've viewed you did an outstanding job. clear, in focus, crisp audio and everything you demo'ed made sense. One question, would not just firing a round while tightly gripping the SIG not "seat" single piece grip if it is not quite all the way clicked on, e.g. the gap at the top?
Great video, it really helps! Thank you!
Very helpful video. Great looking pistol.
I wish it was just them not being seated. That was the first thing I tried. They are much better since I heated them up and bent them back into shape. I literally stretched them out, so even when they were fully seated they just didn't grip the frame tight enough. They grip onto the frame not just in the screw holes, but on both sides with a ridge that really hold them in place. Mine got too loose for that ridge to be snug. And just a side note, you need to get Pete back on that diet. LOL
Thanks George, another very informative video.
Thanks! Grip shot right off. Very informative.
Excellent instructions.
It would be great if you can do a complete disassembly and reassembly video with your elite.
great video. waiting for my e2 to arrive and I was looking at either the magwell grips or Hogue G10, your video is very helpful
Excellent video but got a question. This only affects the P226 and P229 SAO only, but the OEM strut is said to hit the cross bar every time the gun fires causing wear on the crossbar and causing it to eventually loosen up and rattle. Robert Burke has a special superstrut that eliminates this problem but what I am fearful of is voiding my warranty. What irks me is had I known this I would have never bought this pistol. The only reason I do not want to make the change is because Sig I don't think would make a product that could be very unsafe after extended use. If my safety lever does get loose and rattles because the hole it plugs into get elongated Sig will have to give me a new frame. The other issue is the trigger bar keeps running into the frame wearing it down. Been told it will eventually stop but others told me the frame will break
Damn should have stuck with Polymere pistols! Didn't realize removing the screws from grip can result in the screws getting stripped out. I think I am going to get rid of this 226
Oh my God , the Q-tip went flying.
I wanna do the reverse and get rid of that E2 grip as it is just not comfortable.
Fantastic and informative video..thanks! Did you move the older style strut and brace back to the stainless because you needed to swap parts with the one you are putting the E2 grips on? iirc once you add the newer parts you don't need to switch them because all grips fit the newer parts? But if you only have one set of the parts I guess this makes sense (and reason)
Again well done! I learned a lot
Thanks, glad you liked it !!
Great video ! Thank's I would really like to compare the frames with the grips removed. I've got the P-226 tac-ops and have considered different grips. I wouldn't mind going from the 20 rd mags to the 15. All I'm shooting is targets so no pressure there, it's not as if they shoot back. Anyway thanks again and I hope you'll do more vids on the 226 tear down and maintenance.
Good video...thanks for sharing !
+Joseph Malick . . . No problem, glad you enjoyed !
No prob, Glad you enjoyed it !!
Excellent work.
HOLY CRAPP!!! YOUR ALIVE!!!!! Where have you been!????
I installed the E2 grips on my P226 getting a ton of light strikes after. It uses the same exact spring which is weird but the trigger pull was definitely lighter with the longer hammer strut buyer beware
No prob, I can put something up soon..
thank great tips about the e2 mine are coming next week.
Appreciate the video. Got my new e2 grips in and installing them on my stainless p226. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing the issues with the top front corners not being flush. I've removed and replaced several times pushing forward on the grip but it doesn't ever get the same hard sounding click as the bottom holes. I've pushed forward and rotated a bit trying to push each side in more and only get a soft click that doesn't seem to really seat. Frustrating for sure. Any other tips?
This is true !
Thank you for contributing !!
Excellent video, I have a p229 with the e2 grips and want to replace them with aluminum grips. Your instruction were very clear about replacing the hammer spring post and foot. I can't seem to find these parts anywhere. Other forums have suggested just install the grips with the existing post and foot. I'd like to know your opinion and perhaps suggestion on where to get the older post and foot that you used. Thank you for your time
So....I still didn't see any feedback on this issue....DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE OUT THE SPRINGS AND OTHER PARTS TO CONVERT AN E2 GRIP TO A STANDARD GRIP? If you already purchased a Sig that uses the newer E2 Grip design + parts, changing out those parts, just to use the standard grips would be unnecessary, correct?
Did you ever get an answer to this?
@@antucoblack2652 No, :(
@@Thorngod you don't have to change anything to answer your question. Just the grip. I just got the gun and changed to Hogue rubber grip just fine. You may need extra screws if you don't have them though
really well done, thank you!
again very well done thanks
...coming up, Danny !!
Probably do that vid next, wanted to get these outta the way first ;)
,
Thank you my friend! Great video!
Great video. Thanks!
This is a great video. Thanks for the information. Think this would be the same with the p229 enhanced elite and the Hogue piranha grips?
Nice job, good video!
Hey, any chance you can take a picture of the left side of the grip. I can't tell how tight the grip should be on top of the decocker lever.
Fantastic video . I have the p226 USPSA model with the SRT trigger can I use the E2 grips?. Please reply where do I buy them from and if I need to replace anything else. Thx
Noted !
...will put something together soon !
Great Video!
Nice Video, thanks for your labor
great video man...im waiting for my 10 day waiting period to get mine...the one i bought have the e2 grips.. but i found some sig original rosewood grips for it...do i have to make any mods if i just take off the e2 ones and try to put on the rosewood ones? thanks if u can help
Did you have to change anything to apply the other grips?
Awesome man. Love your videos!
Thanks, great thorough video nice tips .
Thank you!
I have the E2 grips on my P226 and want to change them. Do I have to change the hammer spring also or can I just change the grips?
Magnum, flattery will get you nowhere, lol
...J/K thanks for the vote of confidence !!
Very well explained , thank you!
Nice just wanted to make sure you didn't forget....I no your a busy guy...lol
Thank you for the great video and all the Information. I've got a new P226 LDC three weeks ago and i'm very happy with it. The only thing i not really like is the original E2 grip, as it's too small on the rear end for me. If i got your comment right (sorry, i'm german and my english from school seems to be a bit rusted after over 30 years) the two-pieced grip with screws are thicker on the rear ??? If so, please could you give me the manufacturer and part number ? Seems to be easier to get larger grips than to shrink my hand ;)thanks for your reply and nice greetings from germany
+masc0058 ... Hallo, Sie sprechen Englisch besser als einige meiner amerikanischen Freunde! Ja, jede mögliche Art der zweiteilige Griffe werden als die E2 Griffe größer sein. Dank für die Kommentare!
Do you know if Hogue, or any other brand, makes an insert to fit underneath the grips that will add finger grips to the front of the handle below the trigger gaurd? Would you think the typical 1911 finger grips would have room to sit underneath the wooden grips on my p226 Elite Stainless? Thanks in advance, awesome video!!
Very well done. Thanks.
so when are you going to remove the sights with out a sight pusher....lol....good vid George
Any plans on installing a Short reset trigger in the 226 and filming it? I have to install one in my 229.
great work, thanks for the info
very helpful vid. thx
I would like to try the E2 grip on my MK 25, but it looks like I have to change out the hammer spring to the newer style, can I buy those parts with the E2 grip?
Great video ..
thanks for sharing ...
Just bought my first Sig
( 226 .40 ) Have you done a caliber conversion on any of your 226 .? I'd like to be able to shoot 9mm as well as .40
