Assuming it was $50 every day of the week, that's the equivalent of $8.75/hr for 40 hours, which is over a Dollar more than current minimum wage. But that was probably before they increased the minimum wage in 1990, back when it was $3.80. So he may have been making over double minimum wage.

While I agree that there are certain jobs that do not deserve to make tons of money, I also acknowledge that when the minimum wage was first instituted it was intended to be the minimum amount of money someone would need to be able to afford to live. In today's world minimum wage workers can't afford rent.
I will concede that the kid flipping burgers at McDonald's might not deserve a whole lot of money. But, there are a lot of good people working their asses off and getting nowhere. $100 a day for some people really is a reality, and they're making it happen because they don't have an alternative.
Sometimes it just takes some compassion from people like us who aren't living that hard life, instead of passing judgement.

As someone who has been homeless I can tell you if your actually hungry and want change you will walk till you get somewhere. From sleeping in a car seat to a trailer to a home to losing it all again to my mum's house 1000+ km away and now live on the other side of the world with a family. $50 a day 15 years ago I'd wouldn't have had a issue. Used to work at Dunkin Donuts when I was a Senior in HS. There was a store right next to us called âNY Pizzaâ in Florida. I always gave them free coffee along with my manager and coworkers because they were so kind and 2 coffees a day werenât bad to give out to them (morning and somewhere at 7 or 8) I always closed and whenever they visited, always saw me until one day they said âcome by the pizza shop and weâll hook you upâ man they gave me 2 boxes of pizza, chicken wings that they were gonna throw out and two bottle of 2 Liter Cokes.
