    r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, OP goes to pick up his mom, who lives next to a total douchebag neighbor. The neighbor gets pissed off for no reason at OP, and tells OP to wait right there for a tow truck. So, OP does exactly that and waits right there. When the tow truck driver arrives, the driver assumes that OP is the caller and he tows the neighbors car instead! LOL!

    In Germany, we differentiate legally between "parking" and "stopping".
    "No parking" means you cannot turn off and exit your vehicle.
    "No stopping" means you can get ticketed even if you don't leave your vehicle.
    The signs are even different.
    I'm quite sure it's the same in USA, but I don't know. Would make sense though.

    On the second story:
    If the manager had stood their ground, asked her to leave, she wouldn't have been an customer within the system. This would mean the Survey would not have been generated, and she wouldn't have been able to tank their score out of spite. I have only worked for a handful of people who recognize how much ****** those surveys are, and they teach you ways to avoid them when they can....
    Give her Corporates number and ask them to call, make it sound like you are sympathetic but your hands are tied, but don't let them through... they will always tank your score. That is what they think a survey is for, to give nothing but negative feedback and scores upon. Bend all policies and these individuals, who yell to get their way, will reward you with even more negativity. The terrible part is the companies that use Surveys for bonuses know this as well, but what a convenient way to steal wages from your employees?

    I remember once getting into a minor argument with a teacher over the "No hats in class!" thing. Not because I was wearing one, mind you, just because he stopped the lecture dead in its tracks to tell someone else to take theirs off. I then asked why that's even a rule, like, *who* is being inconvenienced by someone wearing a frickin' hat? Maybe you could make an argument for it being in the way if someone was sitting behind the hat-wearer, but the hat in question here was just a knitted cap; It didn't make the wearer's head appear any bigger. So... What's the problem? Literally the only response the teacher had was that "Well it's always been against the rules." Which, personally speaking... I don't care. That does not in and of itself make the rule a good idea. You're a university teacher. Why you committing the Appeal to Tradition fallacy? (I did not say this out loud, mind you. The conversation pretty much ended with him saying it had always been against the rules and me just being all "Okay, so?")

      I’m guessing that rule exists because it’s impolite to wear hats in certain settings, although nowadays few people follow that principle of etiquette anymore, so you could argue that the “no hats” rule ceased to be necessary when the standards of etiquette that required it were abandoned.

    The thing about the "no hats in class" policy is something that kind-of irritates me, because most schools won't write in clear and concise exceptions to the rule (if any at all). Fortunately, I was at a school where the councilor is very understanding. I have Trichotillomania, and back then it was so bad that having those bald patches shown was really embarrassing. What solved it, especially while I was reading, was wearing a hat in class. She even went so far as to write a little slip of paper for me to carry around and show to teachers that I was exempt from the "no hat in class" rule, which also saved me the embarrassment of having to explain why I was wearing a hat.

      I will never use Enterprise. Many years ago we were involved in a major wreck where a truck rammed the back of the camper we were towing and destroyed it and our pickup, as well as injuring us. The next day I called the only rental company in the town we were in, Enterprise, telling them that I needed the largest vehicle thay had to transport our belongings from the camper and truck. Biggest thing they had was a van, but rthey wouldn't rent it to me because they didn't want it to leave their area. Other than that, all the had were crappy and tiny econocars on their lot. We ended up having to take a $90 cab ride to the nearest airport to rent a Volvo sedan from Hertz, which, of course, couldn't carry much of anything as we also had our two large dogs in the back seat, one of whom was also injured in the crash.

    • @BuffDad55
      @BuffDad55 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Procrastinator1948 well from your perspective you think that's bad but what you were asking basically was to rent a van, which is incredibly hard to put your hands on to and in HIGH demand, drive it a couple states away and drop it there. You also expected them to have said van ready to go for you the same day as you got in the accident.
      That branch propably had multiple customers with reservations for the following days and they could not lose the van because they would then have to call these customers to cancel their reservations on them.
      I'm sorry you got in an accident. That really sucks. But you were not ENTITLED to get that big vehicle. Also, Your insurance co. probably only cover the fees for a small car because they don't care about their customers they want to save a buck

    That Boggle Master story reminds me of something I did in College.
    I was taking a chemistry class, and in it they explained how to convert between grams, mols, and number of atoms. Their conversion system amounted to working out several equations with variables that would get swapped out with the atom/molecule you're working with. It was tedious, but it worked. Not satisfied with tedium, I managed to streamline the process to get the same answer much faster.
    Fast forward to a week or so before a big test (either midterms or finals), and the class was playing Jeopardy to help study. When we got to the questions on conversion, I was answering correctly so quickly and so often that the TA told me to stop answering to give everyone else a chance. You know those memes about "what gives people feelings of power"? That one ranked pretty high.

In other words you get a ticket for thinking about pulling in there. In general a simple "no parking" sign means you can drop someone off, or wait for them to come out as long as you remain in the car.

    The 1 hour PTO for 30 hours worked in the last story seems incorrect to me. To take 6 weeks off, you need to be working there for over 15 years. Or are there other things to consider?

    • @chaosblur
      @chaosblur Před 2 lety +2

      Hmmm.... 1 hour for every 30... Let’s see. We don’t know the specific hours of the op, so the actual number could vary, but let’s work off a basic eight hours a day, five days a week. That’s forty hours a week, one and a quarter hours every week. With this estimated weekly schedule, that would be 240 hours of PTO, since weekends are excluded from this calculation. So at one and a quarter hours a week, that would be 192 weeks to reach 240 hours of PTO. 52 weeks a year, so 3 years and 8.4 months to reach six weeks of PTO based off a 40 hour work week, excluding the possibility of OT. Quickly running the math at a few different weekly hours, the average time worked to earn six weeks PTO is consistently falling in the range of 3.25 to 3.75 years.
      ... I put way too much thought into this.

    • @chaosblur

    The Sudoku story reminds me of a story that took place 10 years ago around Christmas. I was playing Rhythm Heaven Fever with my cousins when one of my younger annoying cousins boasts about how he can do better than me. But here's the thing: he's never played the game, and we all suggested that he at least do the practice round before one of them but he wanted to prove a point which ended up going as well as you'd expect someone who doesn't play rhythm games to go. He got frustrated and left claiming "this game sucks", and I went back to playing as normal. Except as a major flex, I played Karate Man 2 while facing away from the screen because I've played the game so many times that I can just rely on the sound cues

    Customer saw our prices for a TV that he saw online for $10 less on our website sold by us, and demanded very rudely that I match that and wouldn't take no for an answer wouldn't let me explain why I shouldn't and why I couldn't for an answer. My manager told me just to do it to get rid of him, so I started it and I noticed last second as I was hitting enter on the price change that the prices hadn't been changed on the shelf yet and that TV was actually $40 less than what the shelf had. I started to say something about it and he started shouting at me again so I just let it keep going, and that's how I got to charge someone $30 more than what the TV was going to ring up for, all because he demanded I do exactly what he wanted.

    As it happens, yes, the writer of the first story DID violate common traffic laws in the USA. If the area was a designated no-parking zone, then it does not matter if the person was in the car with the car turned on. Such areas are commonly established for the purposes of emergency vehicle access, and in an emergency, such vehicles do not have time for the driver to figure out which way they need to move to afford the emergency vehicles access. Check your local jurisdiction's codes/ordinances -- in many cases, there is not a significant distinction between parking and standing, because generally the reason for the no parking is emergency access, which standing interferes with as well.

    Sudoku story: I never had one that felt as rewarding as this, but i do remember doing something similar in middle school. At the time, the game i was playing on my phone a lot was piano tiles, and i was pretty good at it. If you dont know, basically theres 3 to 4 columns of tiles coming down the screen that correspond to the music youre listening to, and the goal is to tap them before they reach the bottom and to not accidentally tap the wrong column. Once you miss a tile, or tap the wrong column, the game is over, and the tiles get faster and faster as time goes on so it gets harder to keep up. I had continuously played on slower maps that would eventually build up to being super fast, so i was pretty decent at the game, and one day i saw my friend playing it in class during free time. I looked over his shoulder to see that he was playing piano tiles on a map that started out quite fast. He made it about 12 tiles in before he failed, and i quickly turned around to not seem like i was peeping. He turned around and asked if i played the game as he showed it to me, and i said a bit, before he gave me his phone and said "try out this level, its pretty difficult". So i prepared myself, started it, and it was a lot faster than i anticipated, but i managed it. I ended up getting around 100 tiles more than he did before failing, and he was like "holy shit", so i said "you were trying to trick me", and he said "yeah, tho i wasnt expecting that"
