My dad pretty much did the same thing. He was the boss of development in a development firm, meaning he really only had the owner as his boss. The owner hated CEO responsibilities however and hired someone to take over those. My father butted heads with this guy frequently. My father being of the opinion that a development firm with the creative minds they had, had to think out of the box to generate income and keep the engineers interested in their work, while the new CEO was being more marketing oriented and playing it safe.
The new stance had put the company in a downward spiral and my father quit and started his own firm. He now has more employees than the old firm did when he left it and many of the contracts the old company had which were negotiated by him. Their entire production in Asia also only knew him.

Had a pond and waterfall built in the back yard and the bylaw came to inspect it (they neighbors didn't like to hear the frogs who made it their new home). After checking it out the bylaw asked how deep the pond and mom explained it was about 3 feet deep. The bylaw looked at her and said "good thing it is two feet deep because it would be legal." Took my mom a second to understand but she got the message. "Oh yeah 2 feet..."
Had to get rid of the frogs but they moved back within the week... Neighbors can suck it.

Never give more to a company than what you need to do. Take your breaks, be paid for overtime, take your full lunch time. Even if you are very good at your job and are "irreplaceable", you'll just burn yourself out for nothing. And then they'll get angry because you take time off for a burnout.

that old bulldog would eat any would be assassin for breakfast. Were talking about a woman whose been dealing with threats and attempts on her life since she was in elementary school. Add to that the seemingly limitless amount of security guards all of whom have military backgrounds and she's downright untouchable so long as she remains in the UK. Add to that the steady and mutually beneficial relationships the royal family has sustained with the US federal and state governments and she's nearly as well protected during her trips to the US as she would be if she decided to stay home. She also has built beneficial connections in almost every corner of the globe so regardless of what country she goes to she'll at least have some security. Unlike parliament and most politicians the royal family doesn't try to burn bridges at every possible turn so in a sense she's more of threat than the entirety of parliament combined.

That woman is still a formidable individual who has a vast network of powerful connections that she maintained to this day whom is worthy of both respect and caution.

Had a small wealthy neighborhood next to mine, each house was two stories high. My dad made a garage that was two stories and had a super steep roof (the company said after making his roof, they will never make one that steep again as their stuff kept falling off during construction.) A guy comes out from the wealthy neighborhood as my dad was coating the bricks with sealant as my town is known to flood. The guy first said something along the lines saying the garage is way too big. My dad thought it was a joke and laughed. Then the guy said it wasn't a joke and that my dad is ruining his view, and that he was going to call the city about this and get his garage taken down. Unfortunately for him, we had to fight the city the whole time just to get the thing thanks to so many rules about having a disconnected garage. The city had all the plans for the garage and we never heard from him again. This rich asshole loved looking at all the houses below him and now my dad is in the middle being the only two story that messes up his vista. One thing that I do like about those wealthy houses, they barely have land. There is one house that shares a border with them from my neighborhood. She has double the land and doesn't even use it, it had to get a fence and it is a very nice piece of land.
