  • Today we are brewing a beer inspired by one of my favorite TV shows, Stanger Things. We will be taking a NE IPA and turning it black. The beer will look like a stout but taste like a fruit forward IPA.

Black NEIPA thats the first time I have seen one of those! Cool idea and looked a nice drink in the glass, I did raise an eyebrow at the size of that bittering addition so not surprised that you would change that if you did it again. Cheers keep the vids coming

These always trip me out. I know it's an IPA but my eyes still fool me when I go to take a drink lol. White/blonde stouts do the same thing.

I typically don’t like IPA because it’s a bit to bitter for me. Sounds like I should try a New England IPA. Great video Ricky!

D to the EV you should definitely try a NE IPA! Those juice forward beers have become a staple in the brewing world.

Hey Ricky, is your Mash & Boil 110v? I've been looking at one for a couple months now but can't bring myself to make a decision. Maybe watching you do a few brews on it will help. Brew on!!

Great video!!! I have a few questions. You said you changed your house strand to kviek and this beer fermented at 83 degrees. This sounds like a good option for me since I don’t have great temperature control. Does the kviek add additional flavors to the recipe and if so, what are the characteristics? Can it be subbed for S-05? I like the idea of a rapid fermentation at higher temperatures and was just wondering.

Not all Kveik yeast are created equal. Depending on the strain you can get some citrus or fruit notes. Some say they give off pineapple flavors when stressed even. So far I’ve used all the Omega strains and have not under pitched any of them, so my fermentations have come out quite clean. If you are looking for a US-05 replacement I’d say go with Hothead, but all of the omega strains have been clean for me.

Can't seem to find the recipe at the online store. Do you have a link?
