Spring Beer Recipes: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Clone (Part 1)

- When preparing a recipe I always check the BJCP style guidelines to make sure I check all the boxes. I will often look at the classic examples they give and try that beer while coming up with a recipe. Sierra Nevada decided to post their Pale Ale recipe for folks to try while on quarantine due to COVID 19, so instead of coming up with a recipe I decided to brew the beer that defines the style.

Just discovered your channel. Great video dude. Can’t beat Sierra Nevada. It’ll be by next brew,!
Great video! I’m going to be brewing this same recipe as well in a couple weeks and hope to post a video as well. Cheers
Great video. Looks beautiful where you live. Cheers from Kent, UK.
I just watched your video and enjoyed it very much.. keep them coming
NC State, Atlantic Brew Supply. You gotta be in the Triangle lol.
I brewed this a few weeks ago and used Perle and cascade , well that was the recipe I found to use. Oh Well. Hopefully it’s still a good one to drink.
Pearl is a great hop! Let me know how your beer turns out.
I saw the same recipe and will be brewing that beer too, cheers 🍻
Let me know how it turns out. Going into the fermenter it smelled and tasted amazing.
Fantastic Fermentations are you doing a dry hop? I have a lot of cascade so I’m dry hopping
No I’m not doing a dry hop. Whenever I make a clone recipe for the first time I don’t change anything. Then on the second run I will adjust accordingly to my notes from the previous.
Going to brew this next week, 26th or 27th of March, 2021. I have 6 oz of whole cone hops looking for a home.
You mentioned if I would like to see anything.. how about a Bass Ale clone?
I see you used the recipe that was on SN website. They are calling for whole cone in their recipe, but you used pellets (which is supposed to be a 5/1 ratio). Did you use the same recipe amounts in pellets or did you adjust down?
Nope I just used the pellets 1:1.
How much water, start and finish ?
5 gallons of mash water and 3 gallons of sparge water. No clue how much chilling water I used.
I hope you are only taking a break my man, it would be such a pity if you stopped brewing
It’s definitely just a break. Having 3 kids during this pandemic has taken a ton of my time. 😔 I’ve got a bunch of brews planned for the holiday break so fear not. Me and the assistants will be back 😬
Best wishes to you and your family bro! Stay safe and strong, cheers from hungary. And as always, great video, thanks for the upload!
What temp did you mash
