@@Hammox she had a video advocating for Colleen Ballinger(mirandasings) and she’s friends with James Charles and Shane Dawson and some of the other big names that have either allegations or proven statements against them. It’s been a thing for years but lately a few clips have become viral and thus they release this song and bam, the “marketing trick works” exactly as she bluntly says it out loud.
It's also a way to drown out the accusations against her from her dance group. Many of the girls have come out and explained the trauma they went thru in her dance group

A lot of people are playing semantics when it comes to this conversation. Clearly her intention was to make people think she wrote these songs. However people are defending her because she was careful with her words. Technically she never says she “wrote” the second song. She says this song is about my ex. I really don’t think there is a difference if her intention was to make her audience think she wrote these songs. However the video from Billboard about her “writing” process, is confusing because she says she revamped the song but all she did was changed messed up to effed up. I agree she didn’t technically steal these songs. However she certainly didn’t revamp them as her own besides singing over the original demos.

I agree with you that her intention was to make people believe she wrote these songs. She just chose her words wisely so her fans can point back to it and say she never says she technically wrote the initial song. I think it’s an annoying nitpick that people are so quick to defend her when it’s clear she wanted people to believe she was writing for a “new genre of music”.

I had a coworker who was raised in a fairly affluent family. One day, he butted into a conversation and started talking about poor people's eating habits and how it's not lack of money that makes them have a shitty diet, only bad decisions. And it was the same completely out of touch, no idea what you're talking about, but so confident in what you're saying vibe as Jojo.

Its shocking to me how many people seemed completely unaware that many pop singers don't write their own songs. Most of those hits you love were written by people you have never heard of and simply bought and performed by the "artist". Those touching lyrics are not their own personal growth, relationships, exs etc. You take a pretty face that can sing at least partially on key, dance a few steps and remember a routine. Buy some songs and there you go. A pop star. Musicians and performers are two very different things.
And the “stealing songs” things is exactly how the music industry works. Covers. And then reworks.
But her PR definitely banked on a rage bait reaction. And it is working. But on me? No. I’m choosing do ignore it or remain indifferent.

There are different kinds of licenses for songs sold in the music industry, some for copyright and some for actual recording. It's how you sometimes get one song charting simultaneously with 5 different artists in different genres. No one stole it, and the writer(s) hopefully get lots of royalties from all the recordings and airplay. It's a bit complex but nothing that happened here is unusual, including Jojo being so fascinated with herself.

The second song she’s been teasing doesn’t even sound like she sang on it. She is so hyped up by yes men that she probably thinks that she’s the next big pop star. However I think we all know that Jojo won’t be winning any Grammys any time soon.
There are quite a few songs recorded by two or more artists. Given the number of years between these two songs, I would consider JoJo Freakwa's version a cover. There is a song called Desperate that was recorded by both Babylon AD and Baton Rogue (both hair metal bands) that both came out within a year or two of each other.
Mary's GorlWorld should be its own podcast or something! I know she doesn't seem comfy on camera, but if this is any indication of her level of research, I'd listen to her + you guys talk about this ish on the way to work all the time.
