  • Niteangel has recently come out to the US with their line of small animal enrichment and toys. But in fall 2020 when this video was filmed, I got a chance to buy one of their cages that has been out on the market in other parts of the world called the "Bigger World MDF" cage, in the size medium. See me set this massive hamster or mouse cage up and watch me talk about the building process. This is not quite a review, but I hope you'll enjoy it none the less.

I have a possible solution to anyone who might be worried about this cage. You could get aquarium silicone (which is relatively cheap, at least where I'm from) and silicone around the wood tabs. This would be a lengthy process, but I'd do it for the safety of my pet. I suggest you do one wall at a time. So assemble the cage with the rubber bands so it stays together while you silicone each wall. As for the lid, I'm not sure how sturdy the wood is but you could cut around the ventilation slits and replace it with wire mesh. Or just make an entirely new lid from wood and wire mesh but that depends on your personal wood working skills

      @miyukiwynter885 Před 3 lety +7

I came to comment the same thing! You could probably silicone over the rubber bands too for extra security and use the metal mesh people use for bin cages and staple it on or something.

Sounds good but really unnecessary. I’ve had this cage for over a year. No lost bands. No problems with the lid. The wood is VERY sturdy. It survived moving into a new home being fully assembled. 10/10. My robo loves it.

My female hybrid dwarf has been living in this cage (in the pink color-- not my favorite I would have preferred the wood or white color but you take what you can get haha) for the past 2 and a half months. The biggest downside I've noticed is that it is a pain in the butt to clean if you have it elevated, the material feels a little flimsy, and ammonia builds up faster since there isn't as much ventilation. But I love that I can store it flat when not in use and it is a billion times lighter than an aquarium.

I wouldn’t be able to use that cage I would hate to have to clean it all the time... I absolutely adore the pastel colours it’s pretty cute, but then again some people might say a tiny tails is cute 👀 it legit reminds me of one of those 15$ hides from ebay & Amazon that look so freak cute like tiny pastel houses online & show pictures with a big Syrian enjoying himself on the upper deck. I just know myself & the fact I’m a lazy daisy put together with my pain/health problems I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the pastel cage’s ammonia buildup
Years ago I had one of those tiny cages with the clear bottoms, one thing I wish is that they made more cages with translucent bottoms. Since upgrading cages I have never seen my hamsters de-pouching, but in the clear bottom I saw it every time & could see them burrowing & it was soooo cute!!!!

Hello! In Germany, we have a very similar enclosure made by Rodipet. On their website, they don't recommend it for female syrians, because tests showed that they can escape by chewing even smooth walls. For males, they say it's fine though. You can easly check it out if you want by simply visiting the Rodipet website (english translation is provided). Ah, it's called "LaOla Nagarium".

My very first Hamster cage was 540 sq in. Unfortunately, it was much too tall and housed two Syrian Hamsters...yep I'm ashamed. But wait, don't get too upset! The boys were 5-week-old brothers from the same litter, got along, and were only housed together until they became healthier and could be rehomed. My second Hamster cage I ever had was a DIY bin cage that a nice lady gave to me for free from CL. I believe it was something like 850 sq in? It was a Christmas tree storage bin from Target that she said she got for $30-$40! Overall, I feel quite fortunate to be living in this age! We've got the internet, so there is no excuse to not do your research! Trust me, it's absolutely worth it! :D

Munchie if you or anyone else wants a big cage like this for their hamster I recommend a PVC cage. They are cheap to make and very sturdy. I bought mine from Zen Habitats it's marketed towards reptiles but works great for hamsters. They also offer wooden enclosures if you prefer that option. I got the 4x2x2 PVC enclosure. It's just under 1,200 sq inches of floor space. It has sliding doors so the hamsters won't escape and a 6 inch lip so you can add bedding. To put it together all you need is a rubber mallet. The sliding doors can be taken out so it's really easy to clean. I used it for my hamsters and have not seen any kind of chewing or other signs of damage on the enclosure. I live in a cold area and the PVC is better at retaining heat than a glass enclosure and since it's 2 feet tall I can add lots of bedding. The top is metal mesh so there's plenty of air flow and no risk of them escaping from the top. This is not a suitable enclosure for gerbils since PVC is plastic and they could chew through it. Just wanted to give you all another option.

Love Niteangel, they make awesome products. I got the 10" acrylic wheel for my Syrian for Christmas and he loves it. Super silent, sturdy, and the adjustable height is so convenient. The biggest problem with Niteangel is that they sell out so quickly so you can never get the color you want, I ended up with an orange one. Wasn't my first choice but it actually ended up looking nice in his natural enclosure.
I'm not sure I'd pay so much money for this cage; I still think the Detolf is a better idea if you're on a budget since it's so much space for so cheap. But it is more fragile and doesn't have great depth, so maybe the Niteangel cage is better for Syrians. I haven't experienced too many problems with my Syrian though since I just make one half of the cage super deep and the other half shallow.

Also, they have even bigger one and different type of cages that are not sold in US. *you have to know Chinese because they don’t ship to US and you have to talk to Taobao’s international shipping distribution center regarding to shipping and they only speak Chinese.

I have this medium one in the birch. Managed to get it online back in October from the official site but I wish I had the large because I just want even more space. 😂 Didn't have any issues with bands breaking. My hamster DID pull up all the tape they gave me to put in the edges which only encouraged her to chew the corners (she's stopped now. I threw out what she ripped up and never replaced the tape.) If you don't use silicone to fill the gaps or come up with another solution, you will eventually have something get under the pvc bottom! I switched to a chinchilla bubble for my hamster's sand bath because trays would lead to her peeing in the corner and it leaking under the pvc which is not fun to clean up! As far as ventilation, majority of her pee mess is in the sand bath (cleaned often) and I have her out of the cage or in the cage with the lid up (with supervision) for multiple hours a night. I never experience ammonia buildup smell.

(Sarcastic voice) "IT WAS YOU WHO GOT THE BIRCH WOOD MEDIUM! Now we are rivals!"
But i did the same thing with the tape back in Sept when i filmed this video, and never again did i use it. I had the same band breaking problem when i bought the Large version of this cage, but it all depends on the wood sticking out I believe and how sharp or sanded off the edges are. That's probably why there was a sander inside the cage when unboxing it.

I wondered what the sander was for because mine didn’t seem like it needed sanding anywhere! That must be why the bands weren’t catching then. I have some of NiteAngel’s chambers and they come with sanders so I assumed they sent them with everything.

Hello, I wanted to add an enclosure review for anyone considering Niteangel. I purchased the large size Bigger World last year. My Syrian hamster Wiggles was living in a 40-gallon tank and the medium size Bigger World is only slightly larger. The large size Bigger World she is now in is much easier to set-up with many hides, platforms, large 11-12inch wheel on a platform, sand bath on a platform and lots of deep 8-10inch deep bedding. I did have similar problems as Munchie with building the enclosure trying to get the bands in place, and broke one band, but have not had any break since getting it built. I placed the provided tape on all the inside lower seems and it has stayed in place and kept sand/moisture from leaking. The lid has been sturdy enough. I am getting a little dent in the wood behind the enclosure from the lid rubbing it when open. Would be nice to have a stick/pole to prop open the lid. The enclosure was not very heavy but awkward to move, I have not tried moving the enclosure once in place, but most people are not moving around large enclosures. I give two thumbs up to this enclosure. Expensive, but gives my hamster a much better living space for the last 8+ months.

Something that isn’t a hamster cage but is REALLY good as a hamster cage is a Zen Habitats enclosure. They are a bit pricey (over $300) but it’s so worst it. The entire front is 2 sliding (plexiglass or acrylic) doors. But the most important thing is that it has 1152 square inches! It has a mesh lid and is low humidity. Though it’s made for reptiles, it’s been working really well for my hamster for the past few months.

Thanks for buying this and reviewing it. While I really like being able to see what is going on in my hamster's cage, I think this would be too unwieldy for me to handle alone. One day, someone will make a lightweight, bin-style cage with a clear front. I'm actually working on getting the supplies to make one myself. So far I have everything but the Plexiglas. Bin cages are so easy to make it is hard to understand why a manufacturer hasn't come out with one that has a clear front.

Perhaps ventilated, and non-ventilated lids could be sold separately in case people wanted to use the bins for other purposes. However, I have to drill ventilation holes on all sides, to make sure air flows through the bins, so I'd still have to do some work myself. I also use the holes I drill to string ropes, toys, hammocks, etc. So far, I haven't had my hamster, or my mice and rats bother the holes but if one did, I'd glue appropriately sized metal washers to the inside to protect the holes without blocking the inflow of air.

I have 2 terrariums that’s a little bigger than this. Just for 2 spoiled Syrian hamsters😂 I also got 2 mice today😍 they are so tiny! Their body is as long as my ringfinger. They both share a big terrarium with a lot of layers and things to climb on. All wooden bridges, spiderwood, another type of wood, and a LOT more. They have cost me in total €500,-. I know right it’s a lot but i will do EVERYTHING for them. They are my world. They have sadly a short lifespan so i want to make the best of it for them💖

I wanted to get the niteangel but decided to get the preview because it was having a lot of defensive behaviors with my male Russian hamster and I needed a front opening enclosure and I couldn't get a hold of the other front opening niteangel (at that time I didn't realize it was discontinued)

I would like to see you review the Maxi Duna Multy Ferplast cage, I've been eyeing it for some time. I think it's suppose to be a guinea pig/rabbit cage, but it's too small for that. However, the bar spacing seems to be quite small, so I was wondering if it would be suitable for mice.

Hi! I recently purchased this cage after all the good reviews it had. This is an upgrade from my old bin cage. I was super excited about it but now I’m a little bit hesitant after reading that the MDF wood boards can be bad for hamsters. It can release chemicals over time that are toxic for them. My cage came and it had a strong odor, of wood or paint maybe. What are your thoughts on this?? I am so eager to set it up for my hamster but I want to make sure it’s safe first. Thank you SOO much!

Or design improvements that Niteangel should do would be great. Before the cheapies buying out only the accessories first know some tips & tricks before plopping down $200+ on a hamster cage would be 👍🏻 great 😊

I have this one which I bought 2nd hand. I like everything about this except a big issue for me is the mini slits which My Syrian with a big heart will gnaw on it to wanna escape. Mine is 100cm*50cm medium size.
That is my biggest stress factor and concern when I saw and hear my hammie chewing. I hate to see my hamster chew on any plastic.
The pros of this is you have potentially a lot of depth to put bedding for burrowing because its not metal wire. It fits on ikea shelf nicely and look gorgeous even though mine is a bit scratched and second handed.
The next cage I am gonna get if my hamster chews out the corners enough to be hazardous is going to be those acrylic tanks with no slits and lid on top.
The mini slits issue will exist prolly for all self assembly jig saw type of cages, which is fine if you do not have a big hearted Syrian like mine.
If you have, chew toys to distract them or free roam time can help them but they will still chew from time to time.

How....how is this small for 700sq inches? O.o The majority of US hamster owners don't even have 450 sq inches to work with and that's including all of the beginner owners out there. Idk how this is small unless you're coming from another place of greater minimum floor space like Germany or Netherlands.

@@MunchiesPlace It’s a decent size, just small in my opinion. 780+ is better, but no judgement here, I don’t have a large enough enclosure myself right now.

I wish they still did the mint. Right now the only one they have is the birchwood, and unless I can paint it I’m refusing that color, so hopefully at least white releases again, or idk what am I gonna get. I know it’s silly, but regular wood looks really dumb in my room that’s all white and bright ocean colors.
On that note can you paint this kind of wood? Obviously before you put the hamster in there, and pet safe.

I got my hammy cage from a company called AIVITUVIN and it’s a real wood cage, comes in different sizes and colors and it’s on sale right now for $135.99. It also comes with wood chew toy, feeding bowl, 2 wood hide outs, a see saw, and ramps bc it has 3 levels. It’s a big cage. I fill the bottom layer with all bedding then the next 2 levels have food, water, toys, hides, sand bath, etc. the measurements are 39.98 L X 19.69 W X 24.02 H. It’s very well made and looks clean and cozy in our home. I hope this helps as an option for you. * edited to say my 2 daughters put it together by themselves so it must of been pretty easy.
