Just last night I rescued a Campbell's Russian dwarf hamster, she was in the all living things hamster starter kit cage. I wasn't intending to rescue her, just to educate her owner & help them out, so I gave them a spare 10 gallon I had & bought a bigger wheel for her. Of course the 10 gallon was only temporary but at least there would be no bar biting or monkey barring. Then the owner casually said "you can have her if you want. I don't care." So I bought the bin from target with the purple handles & made a bin cage for her, & took her home! She still needs more chews, hides, & a sand bath, but I would say that she is pretty happy now.
Yeah I had them when I was 7-9 and I didn’t do my research cause I didn’t have anything to do research with so I went by pet store advice and care books that never mentioned a minimum 🥴! But this will be my first time having a Syrian with the proper care!

My hamster only poops in her house and only pees in her sand. I spot clean those areas weekly but I’ve never changed the bedding outside of her house as it isn’t soiled and it just smells like her- I don’t really see the point in changing unsoiled bedding that just smells of my hamster but let me know what you guys think
Hmm...that's a very interesting topic! I've had similar situations where one of my boys a few years back only went to the bathroom in certain places, leaving the rest of the areas alone. However, even if this is the case, I would still suggest deep-cleaning once every other month (that's if you're cage is at least 600 sq in for a Syrian, or 450+ for a Dwarf). Remember, even if she's not making a mess of the bedding, her paws might still be tracking dirty bits onto it, which is why I would still suggest cleaning it less often, but still deep cleaning 😊
Rat Dragon Thank you for the reply! I actually did a deep clean 2 days ago and the bedding is looking a lot nicer as I bought a huge bag of carefresh. It looks a lot fresher and cleaner and I will definitely be deep cleaning once every other month ☺️ ( I did used to do frequent deep cleans but I slowed down with them)
same. My hamster (syrian) only pee and poop in his sandbath. That's why I have the big sandbath and small sandbath for him and he really left no smell except in those area. I have 100x50 cm cage and thanks to his very polite attitude, I only do full cleaning once in every 2 months and spot cleaning once in a week. It still need full cleaning because he is a messy eater and often leaves the foods (such veggies or such) under the bedding.
Yesayani Putri Aw that’s nice ! Your hamster seems so cute😊My cage is 105x50cm and I have a female Syrian, I have to weekly spot clean her too and I do deep cleans because similarly to you she gets food and sand under the bedding sometimes

We are the same exact height and I feel you when it's difficult being short. I have a friend who's older than me that's maybe 4 foot something. She's been short her whole life.
I adopted a winter white hamster a few years ago from Petsmart, and we later found out he was blind along with other issues. I had him in a 90 gallon tank- we bought the biggest one we could find and it was great for making a tunnel system underneath his bedding. But sadly, we ended up having to move him to a 40 gallon later because he was having a really hard time navigating his space. Very sweet boy, I miss him a lot... but I do wish they were bred better for the hamster's sake.
I also do wish hamsters were bred more better. Sadly people still call them “toys”, “figures”, “decorations”, or a “kids pet” when they are NOTHING like that.
Great video as always, my fellow shorty! But funny enough, you're actually exactly two inches taller than I am (I'm 5' 3/4")! I've always been one of the shortest guys in my classes XD
I love this enclosure! I have something similar but my Hamsters are NOT interested in all that bedding and substrate. She makes the most simple pile and nestles up in it. My male prefers more bedding but even he would waste that much. I started with TONS of bedding when I first got them but now I'm down to about half as much. I find it fascinating (although not surprising) that they all have different personalities and preferences.

When i clean out my hamsters cage (which is about 75x45cm, 540sq?) which literally only happens once in 1.5 months, i keep around 40% of the "cleaner" bedding (like how you explained). UTI’s happen more in human women then men, one reason being that men have a longer “tube” as you were calling it and have to build up force to urinate. This allows them to clear the exit of any “debris” that might be there. While most women do not have that force and the distance to reach their bladder is shorter. So of course there are many ways we can get a UTI. I feel it’s the same issue for other species. However, prostate issues occur more readily in males, which can manifest as constant UTI’s before the prostate issues arise. This has happened to my 9year old Doxie who gets UTIs a lot, so much so the last time saw the infection make its way to his heart (He’s good now, but on heart medication). I think we see the health issues happening more because their lives are so much shorter, so that is probably why we see there’s health problems crop up. Since in the wild they might not live as long as they do in captivity.
I also feel like carefresh is kind of too hard. But I have found at Petco, they are store brand generic carefresh is the same kind of consistency but it's not as hard and chunky as carefresh like it's more fluffy. I'm really liking that right now
In my opinion Carefresh is way to rough for me and I don’t like it because once I felt it for the first time it felt like hard, strong cotton balls. I’ve tested this out with my hamsters and they both tried to escape out of their tank and it got to the point that they actually ALMOST escaped from the cage and I had to push her back in and remove the house that she was using to try and escape. This is no hate to the company or anyone it’s just my opinion that I’m saying. I personally like the All Living Things and the Kaytee clean and cozy bedding more because it gets so fluffy and it’s not hard and it doesn’t collapse when your hamster is burrowing underneath the bedding.
Hi Hamster friends, I got a hamster a couple of months ago, I got him at 5 weeks old and was told he was a girl, turns out that he is a boy. I’ve had him for two months now and he seems so scared when I try to touch him to start taming. He comes out when he hears me talking or when I feed him, I was wondering what are some tips for taming him. I’ve tried the treat in my hand trick and just leaving my hand near him to smell, but nothing has really changed. I do know that some hamsters just don’t ever want to be handled or messed with, does he sound like that? Should I give up trying to tame him? Because I don’t want to stress him out. Thank for the help!
I really want a hamster but in south africa its really difficult to find appropriate cages for an affordable amount of money so I won't get one because I dont want them to suffer in a small cage
I leave my hamster inside the tank while I empty out the opposite side then when I have to work on the side there in I take them out and they crawl right into my hand to come out and my daughter plays with him in the playpen till I’m done
Can you do a video on what spot cleaning is, and how often to spot clean vs deep cleaning? I have 2 female gerbils in a 40 gallon and I really don't know how often to clean. Thank you!
Hi Munchie! ( Or whoever can answer this) My Syrian hamster Maple is going to be one in May I'm pretty sure, and she doesn't really like to burrow! @@katelynzavala435 I’ve heard many people have issues with care fresh. Something about it soaking up the scent of urine. But I’ve never personally tried it myself, so I don’t know! I’ve only ever used Kaytee Clean and Cozy, and aspen. I personally prefer kaytee over aspen.
@@katelynzavala435 of course! Just make sure it’s unscented! I personally prefer the white, because it’s easier to see if it’s soiled. But I also quite like the natural color as well.
I just don't get how you would do a deep clean on an enclosure with the animal in it? Maybe spot cleaning you could leave them in but not so much a deep clean? Either way there may be some stress, sometimes we have to stress out our pets (I mean my cat gets stressed when I take him to the vet, or medication its just life) not that I stress out mt pets for fun it just happens sometimes.
I have 2 hamsters a Syrian long haired and a robo and there cages NEVER smell like pee I don’t know why but it never smells. I clean there cages once a month they each have a 75 gallon tank
I had a question, I recently got a female guinea pig and plan on getting a second one what is a good size cage and what brand of cage is good keep them in? I want them to have enough space to run around and play
I found pictures of me as a child with two robo hamsters in a critter trail. I am so disappointed now, there are pictures of me picking them up and sticking my doll into the cage. Even though I was 9, and knew not to HURT them, I didn't know how freaked out the probably were.
So frustrating, I can't get ahold of this cage. I need an upgrade for my female Syrian but there are no cages in the US that are available and suitable...
where do you get the cage? I have a guinea pig cage with chicken wire the , cage would not be suitable for a guinea pig. That’s besides the point I need this cage I also have a female Syrian!
Yeah they are sold out and I'm hoping they come out soon cause I am planning to get a Syrian Hamster in a few months y'know so we just gotta hope they come out :/

You ask for an American ethical breeder, why not become that person? I am sure many of Munchie's subscribers would love to purchase/adopt a hamster bred by you. :-)
I do think that human males do pee a lot more than females because me and my mom pee like 4 or 6 times a day depends on how much water we drink and I have been noticing for a few months that my dad would only drink a few grams of water and then we will be using the bathroom every 1 -2 hours. Same for my step dad too. So MAYBE they do. (Not so sure yet because there haven’t been scientific research done with this topic yet)
I would love to know more about ethical breeding. Not to start my own, just purely out of curiosity. One hamster is enough for me. How does someone get started breeding ethically? Where do they get their hamsters to start? What makes them an ethical breeder? I dont know why I am so curious about it, but I am. Lol.

I leave a little more then half the bedding in my hamsters tanks but spot clean the dirty bedding is than not heathy for them . I will gladly remove and replace all of it with fresh bedding if that the case. Please answer.
This is gonna be a personal preference thing. If you can smell urine at all, it needs to go. I replace all of it except a couple handfuls. One in the nest box and one scattered along the surface. What other questions did you have?
Like the other commenter said, it really is personal preference and depends on your hamster. If your room smells of urine, you should change more of the bedding than just half. However, if your room doesn’t smell of urine then it’s totally fine to leave half. Munchie changes almost all her bedding, however another CZcamsr Victoria Raechel does not, but only replaces about half during deep cleans. It depends on your hamster, it’s bathroom habits, etc. Find out what works for you and your little hammy!

Hi Hamster friends,
I got a hamster a couple of months ago, I got him at 5 weeks old and was told he was a girl, turns out that he is a boy.
You should do a vid with Victoria rachael
Can you do a video on what spot cleaning is, and how often to spot clean vs deep cleaning? I have 2 female gerbils in a 40 gallon and I really don't know how often to clean. Thank you!
Hi Munchie! ( Or whoever can answer this) My Syrian hamster Maple is going to be one in May I'm pretty sure, and she doesn't really like to burrow! When I clean her cage and refluff the bedding, she will make a burrow to go sleep and asides that she doesn't!! I have made her a multi chamber sort of hideout, I have given her plenty of hides it different shapes and sizes, 8+ inches of bedding, and still nothing. Can someone give me advice?
I have a male hamster and SAME 😅 he won’t burrow! He has 8+ inches of bedding but he stays in his multi chamber hide and refuses to make tunnels.
Love ya munchie!
I’ve looked for one of those tables your water bottles on it’s been driving me crazy I can’t find one
It looks like a niteangel platform!
It is a niteangel platform. I have one from Amazon.

What do you have under the cage for the stand???
I breed winter white breeder just nog in USA sadly enough, but we do have multiple ethical breeders in one country
ASMR be like with munchie nice😁🙂
I was putting this together and the MDF engineered wood off-gassing was so strong my lungs burned. It’s toxic for our hammies. 😢
What's best for robo hamster for his house a tank or making a tote him I have him in a tank right now but inside is cracked some how so I have to make a decision fast help please
Love your vids
love your vids
You are as tall as my husband. Im 4 foot 9 inches. :)
I get allergies from aspen bedding :( I’m so sad because that’s the only other bedding you could use that’s not paper.. so I have to figure out a different bedding solution. Any suggestions?
Why don’t you want to use paper bedding?
@@scarlettechloeasmr I use paper :) right now I’m drying the all living things 14 day bedding but I want to try care fresh
@@scarlettechloeasmr okie dokie my next bedding will be kaytee thanks friend :)
@@katelynzavala435 of course! Just make sure it’s unscented! I personally prefer the white, because it’s easier to see if it’s soiled. But I also quite like the natural color as well.
Where's the sand bath?
Hey i really like your videos
I just don't get how you would do a deep clean on an enclosure with the animal in it? Maybe spot cleaning you could leave them in but not so much a deep clean? Either way there may be some stress, sometimes we have to stress out our pets (I mean my cat gets stressed when I take him to the vet, or medication its just life) not that I stress out mt pets for fun it just happens sometimes.
What kind of bedding do you use
I have 2 hamsters a Syrian long haired and a robo and there cages NEVER smell like pee I don’t know why but it never smells. I clean there cages once a month they each have a 75 gallon tank
If I wasn’t on the east coast I would totally be a pet foster parent volunteer
Carlos
how many sq inches of floor space does this enclosure have? it’s lovely ☺️
I had a question, I recently got a female guinea pig and plan on getting a second one what is a good size cage and what brand of cage is good keep them in? I want them to have enough space to run around and play
My winter white had diabetes he would drink a whole water bottle a day sadly he passed away at 8 months 😢
During cleanings, is it okay to be rinsing or washing the cage?
Good for Gerbils?
I’ve got to do this. Yeti died yesterday day. He was around 3years old. 😓 he was my best friend.
I’m sorry about Yeti🥺
can i check how long do you deep clean the cage ?
I found pictures of me as a child with two robo hamsters in a critter trail. I am so disappointed now, there are pictures of me picking them up and sticking my doll into the cage. Even though I was 9, and knew not to HURT them, I didn't know how freaked out the probably were.
Your only 5’2”??? Wow u look so tall on your videos! I’m 5’5”
Wish I could afford this cage :=|
where did you get ur cage !!!!
Yeah they are sold out and I'm hoping they come out soon cause I am planning to get a Syrian Hamster in a few months y'know so we just gotta hope they come out :/
@@ilikemcdonaldslol556 the best place to get them is amazon right now, but they run out of them so quickly and only stock 10-20 at a time.
@@parker_lol there is a three tiered cage out right now that I personally haven't tried but I would give that a look. it almost has as much square inches as the nite angel cage.
@@kikyamart8749 Oh okay, thank you I'll have to check it out and see if it would work in the space that I have! 🙂
Early!
Hamsters rule
Please tell me where you got the table the water bottle was on I’ve been looking for one of those it would mean so much if you responded 😁
It looks like a niteangel platform! 😊
What’s in the spray bottle you used to clean? Did I miss it?
Water/ white vinegar mixture.
I would love to know more about ethical breeding. Not to start my own, just purely out of curiosity. One hamster is enough for me. How does someone get started breeding ethically? Where do they get their hamsters to start? What makes them an ethical breeder? I dont know why I am so curious about it, but I am. Lol.
Mentor under ethical breeders. Contact your countries association or club. If you're in America, check out the California hamster associations website for information.
@@MunchiesPlace I am in Canada. You dont happen to know of a group here do you?
I leave a little more then half the bedding in my hamsters tanks but spot clean the dirty bedding is than not heathy for them . I will gladly remove and replace all of it with fresh bedding if that the case. Please answer.
I have a couple other questions and want to ask someone with experience. If anyone can reply and answer them it would be greatly appreciate.
