Bad Cage Unboxing Review | Tiny Tales XL Fire Truck | Munchie's Place

  • I've been unboxing and reviewing these "Tiny Tales" cages in a bad light to demonstrate and encourage hamster, gerbil and mouse owners to look into proper care before impulsively getting a small pet or after unsuspecting pet owners were fooled into buying this, thanks to marketing tactics that don't seek out proper care but rather to profit off of others instead of enhancing the life of a small mammal companion. This is my review of their latest TOY INSPIRED CAGE, the XL Fire Truck.

    • @nessacruz404
      @nessacruz404 Před 3 lety +19

      @Jessica Rivet I work at Petco so the it's probably different from PetSmart's rules, but at least at my location, we're not supposed to make customers feel "bad" about their purchases or talk bad about a product. What we can do is offer other suggestions, just without basically insulting our products in store. At my location, we have a target store literally just 4 stores down from ours, in the same shopping center so I always suggest people get bin cages there ranging from $20-30 while our cages range from $20-60 (we don't carry cages like in this video). I tell them if the absolutely feel the need to buy the critter trails to consider upgrading as soon as they can for the benefit of the hamsters. Now if we happen to have an older, or bigger Syrian hamster I won't sell them in those cages and I made that clear to everyone at my location lol. I won't sell Gerbils with those cages either. And I NEVER will sell two hamsters together if they don't have two different enclosures. SO sorry for the long reply even though you didn't ask me LOL.

    They put so much effort into designing a cage that's visually very appealing to kids that they didn't have time to
    - make it even remotely escape proof
    - create something that's not a death trap
    - FINALLY put on the box that it's not safe for gerbils
    - find a way to include an appropriate sized wheel
    - make the cage itself an appropriate size with enough burrowing depth.

    The idea of the child pushing the truck with the hamster inside is scary. I had a scary experience a few years back. My rabbit was about 2 or 3 months old, and I noticed she wasn't in her playpen. I immediately started to panic. Turns out my little brother was having a play date with a friend and they had the idea to put her in a Tonka Truck and push her around the living room. Luckily I had caught them early enough that nothing happened. I then had to revisit the conversation with my brother that he can only interact with my bunny with my permission and supervision. Moral of the story sometimes you have to have multiple conversations about rules around handling small pets because childern might not always remember.

    Im a ten year old with my TWO gerbils because gerbils are social animals, and i keep trying to upgrade the cage, add more toys, buy more things for them so they can get exercise outside of the cage, and having buy more and more bedding because PetSmart's bags of bedding are small and i keep giving my gerbils the whole bag of bedding. I love them and honestly think i could make a better cage line than the tiny tales line.

I informed them that was smart cause they can chew right out of it, and they didnt even need to buy another low quality cage from us cause they were keeping their gerbil in a 20 gallon while figuring it out, and they cant be kept in plastic anyways.

    • @lauren3266
      @lauren3266 Před 3 lety +1

      @@sydneytaylor8128 I don’t think they should take the smaller cages off the market rather just not label them as permanent hamster cages.They work great as mouse cages or hamster/gerbil cage extensions.This one is just under 450 the difference is non significant but yes the plastic is very cheaply made a bun cage would be a much better option

    • @sydneytaylor8128
      @sydneytaylor8128 Před 3 lety

      @@lauren3266 The cages made by this company are not safe, regardless of their size. They're too easy to escape and the plastic is soft and easily chewed on. As you saw in this video, some of the bits could be popped off really easily. And honestly, 450 square inches is still WAY too small in my opinion, it's called the bare minimum for a reason. (If you ask me, the minimum should be raised to 600 square inches or more; I've never had a hamster be happy in anything smaller than that.)
      Anyways, these cages are built like toys. They're not practical even as an extension or travel carrier, and would be extremely difficult to clean with all the little nooks and crannies. And it doesn't matter what you label them as. Nobody is going to spend $50-$130 on an "extension." No, they're still going to keep them in there permanently either because they don't know or they don't think hamsters need much space. Better to just take them off the market all together, that way no one would be able to buy them and people would realize that they'd be better off buying a bin cage.

    I hate to say this, but we have this sort of rubbish in the UK too. Pets at Home is our 'chain' pet store, and it is just as bad as what you guys seem to have. The animals they have are definitely not from ethical breeders, and always have health and temperament issues. I keep rats rather than hamsters, but the same applies. Every time I pop in for essentials I see the awful circus cages and impossibly small plastic rubbish, and it's awful. It makes me furious. I wish we were better.

    Cages like this as well as being totally crap, small and unsuitable it adds to the neglect of the pet inside. Once the excitement is over with and little Johnny or Mum have to clean the cage out, I can very much imagine them thinking they’ll not bother. Anyone who truly cares for their pets, wouldn’t be buying this in the first place. It is a toy for a kid, not a cage for a living animal.
