piper they arent. Bin cages and the ikea detolf is a thing.
piper The detolf is only $60 and is glass, you will need to put a roof though so that your hamster won’t escape. I think it’s like similar to an 80-90 gallon, but I could be wrong.
i don’t have the room for a detolf right now. i’m moving soon so i have nowhere to put something that big
piper And that’s ok, just saying that something like that isn’t super expensive (plus it’s more long than thick, so it isn’t a huge thingy). Whether or not you can actually fit it is something to keep in mind, but there are still some good alternatives like bin cages, as said below my original comment, and they are like $20, just cut out a place for mesh, which mesh usually isn’t super expensive. :)
You can buy an Ikea Detolf for $60 and it’s very large (I think 800 square inches) or you can buy a large plastic bin and make it into a bin cage. There are plenty of options for affordable hamster habitats.

I would say it’s a great cage it has an excellent look and it seems very secure. Very expensive though compared to how much I paid for my detolf.

Looks like, whoever this company is, just remodeled the National Geographic Reptile enclosures. Everything is the same other than having sliding doors. Even has the removable slots in the top mesh for cable management. Glad that they give you the option for mesh or glass, knowing that the small pets will probably chew it.

But It’s so much money and you can easily buy an Ikea Detolf which is bigger and cheaper. Or you can make a bin cage which is very cheap and easy... It’s a nice hamster habitat though.

When it comes to 40 gallons, what I do is put it on the side, more floor space.
What do you put as cover? (So bedding doesn't fall out.) I'm interested!

I use a 40gb for one of my geckos and I just used cardboard for the first few weeks until I got the dimensions of the tank and got glass cut to silicone in place.
40g measure 36x18x18... putting it on it’s side wouldn’t make a difference.

40g breeders are basically two 20g longs stacked on top of each other. Turning it on it’s side would make it have a lot more floor space.

This is a reptile terrarium, which I LOVE for hamsters! I just built two Zen Habitat enclosures and love them. When I have space for another set, I want to get a pair for my hamster and my mouse. It has an optional substrate shield which would be perfect.
You could also use Exo Terra habitats! Sometimes you find them used online for super cheap. 😍
I don't care that it's expensive, it's the only store bought cage that is really appropriate AND made of durable materials, and it's pretty eco friendly since there's no stupid plastic. This is the best purpose made cage upgrade to a bin cage and I love it!

40 gallon breeders go on sale for $50 during the dollar per gallon sale, the lid for it is about $30. if you can't afford this cage I'd highly recommend that one, it's very nice
Cool cage, but I'm gonna stick to building my own for now since I find it more cost-effective. My cages are over 1000sq inches and 880 sq inches and they cost me under $100. But for someone unable to build their own or just doesn't want to, amazing option!
I ordered a 18x18x24 terrarium from Petco for my praying mantis but when the box arrived I opened it to find a million glass shards. Why? Because the genius who packed the box set this all GLASS terrarium into a box with no padding of any kind on the bottom, the glass side was directly touching the bottom of the box! The only attempt to prepare for shipping was a small air pillow set on top. Luckily I was able to exchange the broken one for a new one at the local branch, no return shipping involved.

If you don’t want to spend a lot on large cages, build them yourself! Bonus if you have a carpenter friend! They can help you build one, it’ll take just a couple of hours! Bonus bonus; ask them if they’re able to take materials (planks, boards, etc) from work, most of the time, they can! It’ll just save you that much more money on a beautiful cage you can build yourself! You can easily get plexiglass from most hardware stores, too.

@@ruthrose3364 I'm really not well at assembling things, otherwise I definitely would. Maybe in future when ive worked up the confidence to do so. And I live in the US. As well as I have a 5yr old daughter and I like the idea of doors for an extra precaution. BMO is my companion not hers just to make that clear lol.

OMG That is so perfect for my gerbils I have been looking for a new enclosure since my current one is really old and needs replacing
cage remind me a lot of the Zen Habitat enclosure for reptiles. It's assembled in a similar way and looks similar too! this is a game changer for small rodent pets!
One thing I would say is that it's too bad there are no tiny handles or something for the doors. You'll have to always touch the glass to slide it open and leave smudges and prints. Maybe tiny handles can be silicone on if someone wanted too.

Wow! That is so nice to see approrpate sized Hamsters, gerbil, and mice cages! Its nice to see. It reminds me of a snake cage because of the lock but its so nice and you can make suction cup ledges and use hanging toys and ropes and all sorts of stuff.
Ohhh, that answers where you got that Halloween themed cage from. Really nice! But would love to see ledges and stuff using the tall space that it has but either way, it gives the small animal more then enough room on the floor.
I would like to see the price come down though. I believe one of the Tiny Tales or those types of cages are like $20 to maybe $50 at most. A 20 gal breeder is way cheaper. And a DIY bin even cheaper. I understand that this has a siding door on the side and there are perks to this but it would be nice to see the price come down to maybe $100 to $150. So that the rest of us can enjoy this cage. At its current price point, many of us can't afford it.
What treats do you most recommend? I have two gerbils, they already have treats but I was wondering if anyone knows a good treat mix?

I like that have you made any videos on hibernation a lot of hamster owners think their pet has died ,it happens a lot here in the UK . not sure about anywhere else in the world ,i always put posts up on facebook about it .
Hamsters do not hibernate. They go into torpor and will die if they are not warmed up soon
some call it hibernating here ,i just couldnt think of another word for it ! a lot of hamsters have been buried or put into rubbish bins because people think theyre dead .

Love these cages! Hammylux had one for her past hamster patch and it looked really nice!
That was a custom acrylic tank that opens instead of sliding doors. This is different than that because of materials (it's glass) and that this tank is cheaper. The one she got is priced 350-450 depending on which size you get. Shipping for those on eBay cost so much due to not being able to disassemble it.

My Campbell's Russian dwarf absolutely hates it, but my robo dwarf treats it like a little getaway home

It looks like a nice tank but I wouldn’t use it for gerbils. Since you open it in the front, it looks like you can’t fill it up with enough bedding for them to dig properly

Oof that price tag, tbh for a much much lower price its almost a better option to just to a DIY enclosure. The ikea linnmon set up is very comparable in size to this and the materials cost me like $45 max.
Or with this same money you can just hire a carpenter to build you a really insane nice set up XD

It’s just a common type of reptile cage with white metal frames instead of black metal frames (for some reason most reptile cages comes in black only), I wonder why they didn’t do the mesh in white tho, and it even has the max water level sticker LOL, that’s definitely for reptiles. It’s probably slightly cheaper to just get a reptile cage, but if you want white metal frames, then this is perfect :) What I don’t get is a lot of people recommended aquariums as hamster enclosures, but reptile cages I don’t see it has a common recommendation, aquariums you are paying for thick glass to hold water in (also a big piece of glass needs to be a certain thickness to hold its structure), while it’s a nice crystal clear view enclosure, these features are not very important for hamster keeping, and it doesn’t even come with a lid... but reptile cages has thinner glass, raised bottom, front doors and a mesh top lid that comes with it and cost less than an aquarium that is the same size, just makes a lot more sense. And since reptile cages comes in the same standard sizes as aquarium tanks, you can not just get a standard stand, but also standard cabinets for clean looking storage solution. That’s what I am using for our first hamster right now. Now I have to find if you made a video of this cage all set up :)
Where do you live that a reptile cage is cheaper than a fish tank??
@@critterc0rner I live in Hong Kong, it depends on the size, if you get to the size around 40 gallons or higher, aquarium tanks starting to get expensive, and that’s when reptile cages are cheaper in comparison. I have a 90cm x 45cm x 45cm reptile cage. I still think maybe not big enough for a Syrian hamster, I might upgrade the cage to 120cm long before my hamster gets too old.
That enclosure reminds me of a lot of reptile enclosures. Tetra Fauna makes an enclosure that is very similar to that.
Cage looks pretty cool, honestly tho if you want a terrarium type cage you could get one for cheaper or make one, seems like a bit of a rip off

If I saved my money I would get get this for Dotcom. However she's doing reasonably well in a mahoosive bin cage at the moment, so this might end up being my next expense. This to me would be cage heaven for her, but I worry about the mesh top, as she's a notorious climber and chewer.
