    Gus has a point - it's about consistent application of the rule

  • @HarryWallace

    Both tries were deservedly disallowed, however the rules should be consistent whether or not a try is scored

    Easy fix...
    The problem is that the attacking team loses the ball to the opposition when they score a try and the bunker finds am obstruction, where they would keep possession if they didn't score, so...
    If the bunker finds an obstruction on a scoring play, they should just treat it like being held up in-goal. Disallow the try, but give the ball back to the attacking team with whatever remaining tackles they have.

  • @whatsonline157
    @whatsonline157 Před 2 lety +1

    Gus, your wrong. Gus, I love you like a brother but you a missing a few key points, it's not the player with the ball that is creating the problem, the decoy player running through without the ball into the defensive line is creating the obstruction. Once the player without the ball does not receive the (set play or dummy) ball from his team mate he should make every effort not to make contact with the defensive line and not cause an obstruction or take a defensive player out or stop a defender from doing his job "defending" every player has in the game has big strong legs and I am dam sure they can stop running before they reach the defender or the defensive line if they made an effort to do so.
    Other points you are missing:
    1) The decoy player running through without the ball puts himself in an offside position (he is in front of the player who is carrying the ball and is now in an offside position) which means he is not allowed to get involved in the play, this includes coming in contact with a defender or obstructing a defender.
    2) Where in the rule book does it say players are allowed to be in an offside position when there team mate with the ball is attacking the defensive line?

  • @vickyv9903
    @vickyv9903 Před 3 lety +1

    They both have points, that should be a penalty, it should be a penalty every time regardless on where you are on the field. Fact is that the tigers player should either go past the defensive line or not have gone to the line, but he stopped in the middle of the defensive line and that does constitute an obstruction penalty. The fact is that these should be penalties everywhere on the field, the lead runners should not be involved in the defensive line as often they do create obstructions.
    The rules need to state and enforce that a lead runner needs to clear the line by 3m to ensure no obstructions.
    It is a no try, and it should be a penalty every time

  • @paulwest6203
    @paulwest6203 Před 3 lety +2

    Its not blown a penalty when no try is scored-because if no try is scored the defender then does have adequate time to reset and defend fairly.
    If no try is scored Roberts is giving leeway-think when a player gives themselves up for a shepard...thats why a penalty isnt blown if no try scored.
    If Roberts continues to run into the in goal, its play on-thats why the penalty is always blown when the player doesnt do this, stops in the line...theyre very consistent with the rule-its clearly player error when it happens.
    I know Hess probably doesnt make the tackle...but he knows the rules and played the part of victim well

    • @DarkTemptationn
      @DarkTemptationn Před 3 lety

      Finally someone with a brain, it is unfortunate for tigers but that is the rule... Robert's just had to run straight through the line and if he got tackled that's a defensive decision. You cant just stop there

    • @TheShepdawg9
      @TheShepdawg9 Před 3 lety

      Ok but you're not taking the other side fully into the equation...
      The attacking team is then being penalised for scoring. If the attacking team scores off of a potential obstruction, the ref's go back, see the infringement, then hand the ball to the other team.
      If we assume its not last tackle and the defending team saves a try after an uncalled obstruction, the attacking team retains the ball with tackles spare.
      You can't have a system where the attacking team is negatively affected for playing well (scoring on the end of a play) if an infringement goes uncalled by ref's on the field.

  • @TheUnstoppable17
    @TheUnstoppable17 Před 3 lety +3

    I agree with Gal here. It's simple but Gus doesn't understand for some reason. Gus: "if he didn't score a try, would it be called up for a penalty..?" What Gal should have responded with is "no, they wouldn't hold it up for a penalty.. but the whole point of our game is to score points & win the game..so if a point is scored you need to be vigilant with the rules. End of story. If they hold up every tackle to see if there was an obstruction without a team having an advantage (points) then the game will be slower than Golf!"

    • @jakewellard1368
      @jakewellard1368 Před 3 lety

      the point gus is making though is that they need to be consistent it shouldn't make a difference whether the obstruction happens one tackle before the try or on the tackle of the try basically teams are rewarded for not scoring the try on that play but scoring on the next play even though they still get an advantage by making a linebreak

    Let’s get a bit real. The bunker is 100% only there for gambling and manipulating point spreads. The fact that video ref has been around for nearly 20 years and every single game of every round will have at least one decision that will leave media and fans just stupefied. I mean come on?
