The media is BS and i fully agree with Gus, they seem to be biased against Madge for some reason. We can have a similar conversation on a number of NRL coaches whos job is on the line ie: Warriors, St George, Titans, yet we don't hear much or anything at all.

Tigers needed to do that years ago
Warriors sacked Brown, Titans have shown positive results in 2/3 years under Holbrook. Dragons, well he's only halfway through his 2nd year as coach, so a bit early to be calling his job into question based on performance.
Tigers haven't gotten any better in the 4 years Madge has been there. that said i think their roster is no good, idk if it's salary cap issues or poor recruitment but they let all their best players go and that was done before Madge got there, other than Matterson I guess.

The media is cancer and to stupid to understand social media is the future. The fact the nrl and the afore haven’t woken up that by streaming they’ll make all the money, and fox and 9 would shrivel up and die is beyond me. I’d love an nrl streaming service. $15 a month and can watch all games live, go into back catalogue and watch all the old games like on the WWE network. Sports is the only thing keeping traditional media alive.

It's disgraceful the media vendetta against Madge, Phil Rothfield and Fox tv is so toxic they want him out of the job. Probably has more to do with him being Kiwis coach than Wests Tigers coach! How about Nathan Brown's Warriors get belted by 70 and on the weekend smashed by Manly yet no scrutiny or criticism whatsoever.. Warriors have turned into a complete joke under Brown's watch yet no criticism towards their management or anything. Double standards, funny that.

Brown is the one let go first as well - the media in general has been toxic for years. If every sport had a journalist not employed by traditional media or the sport itself, a lot more of these "rumors" will become white noise.

Well done Gus, hit the nail on the head about the courage and morals of a large proportion of the media. Everyone is sick of the media speculating and haranguing a coach in a very tough environment. His side has few players that would walk into a side above them on the ladder and on top of that many of their top 17 have been injured. Never once has Madge made excuses or denigrated the club or individuals.

The media blows things out of proportion because it equates to views and clicks. On a smaller level fox league and any NRL publication does the same thing, can take one thing someone says and make it a headline massively over exaggerated on a weekly basis. Which is exactly why Gus holds his tongue at points because I’m certain he knows everything is under the microscope

The axe has fallen and Sheens gave the green light to sack Madge. The writing was on the wall and the Tigers haven' t performed. Time for a new coach and perhaps new blood in the Tigers. I'd like to see Benji Marshall take over as interim coach.
A new coach isn’t gonna make a difference anyways , it’s down to the players , Madge is doing the right thing stepping down and giving someone else a go but he tried his best and should be thanked for that

The media is a cancer period. West/ Tigers have struggled for... Well forever ( 1 premiership) so l always find it hard to fully blame to coach. Its a professional sport run as a business so you have to be winning to get the coin( sponsorship).

The fact is the media - or some of them at least - were spot on with this one. Sheens admits he sacked Madge after Madge had been on close performance watch since Sheens came on board. It's also a bit hypocritical for Gus to call out the media for telling lies, as he's one of the biggest BS artists out there. Only recently he spun complete BS about how safe Trent Barrett was at the Bulldogs for example. And guess what Gus - you're a part of the media.
He hopes they win for the next month. Except on the 19th of June when they front the doggies again. Even Gus would hope they lose that one.

problem is Gould is mates with all these coaches and can't stand aside from that as a jurno, he's had 3 years to build a side it's his now not a former coach's none others to blame as for Guss well remember he reviewed the coaching set up at the Dragons and said his old mate McGregor was doing a good job turns out his review was just going and having a chat to Mary and he was the second worst coach in the clubs history and the only excoach never mentioned for any of these coachless clubs he was that bad
When the whole game is dependent on the media package theirs no wonder it's a womans weekly, gossip style medium for the most part
So quit the show, give up your pay packet and don't sit alongside Weidler if you think it is all so wrong Gus. OR, just STFU. Like him or not, Weidler is on this show, specifically to give the inside word. Which in this case, was spot on.
Don't forget Gus needs Madge to stay in a job so there isn't more competition and leverage for coaches.

Tigers needs to change within the club. The culture needs to change. What ever is going on the top follows down right to the staff and players. They need new faces in the board n staff fresh mind. This been going on for ages now.
