Remember when Star Trek was optimistic and a vision of the future to strive for?
Totally, but that's no longer culturally relevant. We all know what's happening... đą
Hey member when you regurgitate red letter mediaâs opinions. Just sayin lol
@@ADFG17E What is happening?
@@MegaAwesomedude27 RLM nailed what I and a lot of others were thinking for a long time. Not just about star trek, about sci fi in general.
The SUPERMAN sci fi show was "gritty and depressing". SUPERMAN. The symbol for hope!
WTF is wrong with these people?!?
Sirellyn Y I donât disagree with you. Itâs just not your words lol
Tng season 4 episode 21 âDrumheadâ. Thereâs no action. Itâs all acting. It has a great Picard monologue. Touches fear, prejudice, and hatred. So good.
'Inner Light' remake now with ninjas and Transformers
True, but a lot of episodes had action
AstroTomK literally the best Star Trek episode of any of the shows. It will never get better than that episode
Yeah Drumhead was some of the best, most relevant and timeless writing in the entire Star Trek canon.
"In the pale moonlight" is the best DS9 episode.
Example of exploring something different with star trek without destroying it.
"Captain, we can't bring Data back"
"Shut up Wesley"
"This doesn't feel like Star Trek." Music to Alex Kurtzman's ears.
But it's about Picard Idk if needed to be. I personally wasn't expecting it to be. I've watched all star trek series I love star trek. This needed to be a Picard story in the star trek universe but with it's own identity and it does that. I'm not to annoyed,

The essence of Star Trek was gripping, intriguing storylines, without that it isnt Star Trek
Ya with the sense that the future was full of hope and then with discovery and picard they turn the future into this dark sad future where the present day looks better it doesn't look good at all
Instead they chose to focus on an edgy action drama series that uses Picard and veteran Star Trek cast for nostalgia to peddle their pathetic streaming service. CBS is to Star Trek what Disney is to Star Wars.
@@shanedaley6236 Yeah the future was full of hope, that's why Starfleet started building warships.

33:03 always makes me laugh hearing them talk about how old Picard is, followed immediately by footage of him bouncing off the ground like a rubber ball from an explosion
That explosion didn't hit him that hard aka nah it's fine
NGL.. When Picard said "I don't want the game to end" I got choked up a bit.

We all did
oh yeah.
So say we all.... wait... wrong series.
That was great direction and acting. It gives us an insight into Picardâs deeper sadness.
OJ, start with TNG, especially if you're reviewing more episodes of Picard, and if you're concerned about time, just watch the fan favorites.
I second this. Im not a trekkie but I loved TNG when I was younger, still occasionally rewatch it today. its great
Many TNG prime directive themed episodes is the major reason why i chose anthropology as my major.
Yes, watch TNG. Then watch Voyager, skipping to the Scenes with Seven of Nine.
Okey, TNG is great buuuuttt... Why not Enterprise? First ship of humans and birth of federation. It even expalins major races etc. It's good for a newbie
Sounds like Q needs to come back and shake things up a bit.
I'm pretty sure he killed himself after accidentally crashing two jet airliners into each other over Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I heard Q shows up in the last episode to set up a cliffhanger for season 2.

"We're Star Trek fans, lets defend it..." lol
If that's the case, then you should be defending Star Trek Brand from being disrespected by poor quality content having ST name slapped on it.
To be honest, they crammed in so much political stuff in this episode. Go see The Critical Drinkers take on it.
Implying Star Trek series of the past itself isn't the definition of bad quality...
Star Trek has always been rife with social and political commentary. The problem with a lot of the newer stuff is the more negative light the camera views it with, not in the subject matter itself.
MalePifko this isnât poor
@@samieltheinfamous also the bias. You can compare it

Riker Maneuver!
A very awesome comment! So true! đ€Ł
the "They have already ordered a season 2" news story is just a marketing strategy many networks use to make a show sound good, if the show sucks, it wont get to season 2.
exactly. saying that is meaningless when the season isnt even out. by the time we get ot the 5th episode if people have stopped caring they wont waste money on more.
Let's see if Batwahman gets it.
It's also a ploy to try and keep the alternate Star Trek copyright alive, the deal keeps going for as long as at least one production is "active". That's even more vital than ever to Bad Robot/Secret Hideout off the back of CBS & Paramount merging again, since Shari Redstone wants to bring back productions for pre-JJ Trek.
There are some opposite times
Discovery got a season 2, so what's your point?
The Orville did something different and it has the Star Trek stamp all over it.
Even Galaxyquest was a better Star Trek movie than either of the JJ Abrams shit-fests and anything that Kurtzman has crapped out on TV.
I feel really bad for Patrick Stewart that he has to be reduced to this.
Here's hoping the paycheck is worth it.
@@Cbricklyne I watched maybe 5 mins of it and I was like. It just doesn't seem right.
Like rlm said Picard could debate with an almost all knowing all doing entity, Q, but stumbled with a reporter. As well as the black hood and black helmets during that scene was for us to not notice they were just the actors doubles.
There's a difference in being emotionally traumatized and forced to talk about it in front of the entire galaxy or discussing something with an all knowing entity. Picard handled it perfectly and easily and that reporter was unable to respond. Did she manage to get him into a corner on her own terms in front of a live audience knowing what he did not want to talk about? Sure, but that's not hard.
â@@Mysterio2243 exacpt its all just wriitng. the federation wouldnt do this, picard wouldnt react this way and do nothning for 20 years even if they did. he certainyl wouldnt be emotional about saying his mind.
having it be live even though he wanted her to not ask specific questions, and not ending the interview when she asked, then probably sue her and have her removed from her job.
it was all just lazy writing.
@@ge2719 The Federation wouldn't do this? You mean like abandoning a Cardassian colony because they are just Cardassians, or leaving the Maquis to die because they are not Federation citizens, or leaving the Bajorans to suffer under Cardassian rule. The Federation is full of examples where they did just what is described in the first episode of Picard.
Those fight scenes work if you sit there singing "Go Go Power Rangers" as you watch.

Get your eyes checked or your screen replaced.
Actually Picard is in his 90's in this timeline. The character Picard was always older than Patrick Steward's real age.
Crypto Style thatâs like 60 in the 24th century
They could have had Picard teaching young cadets, and somehow he ends up on a Starfleet vessel during some emergency and its a mix of original crew and students/ppl who got onto the ship.
BUt ultimately i think it would of been awesome to see Picard in a mentoring role, helping say a new young captain figure out his role.
We'd get to see them struggle, the new captain might even depend on Picard a bit too much and try to lean on him but then Picard is incapacitated or something in a Last of Us style situation where The new guy has to basically try to lead while Picard is down and try to keep him going for exhilaration....
I'm going back and watching my very first Star Trek show ever. Starting with TNG from the beginning. I'm still on season one, 1986. It's amazing!

Exactly. I dont think many people really watched the show if they think picard was warm.

Picard's cool ethics based morality is what made TNG so impactful and timeless. If they're making a Picard show, then that personality trait needs to be front and center.
Yeah! You're so true!! All I see is a superficial Animation & stereotypes, where is the essence of tng? I wouldn't even rate it, this isn't star trek...
@@kupferstrich3458 the very first episode with the trial, talks about laws put into place which prevents people being held accountable for their race or their ancestors. Foresight and morality was put into that one line, and that episode is compressed with one line ideologies like that.
This first Episode was like the quintessence of what made tng awesome. Just because they arent on Board of a spaceship doesnt mean it cant be Star trek.
@@Mysterio2243 the placing isnt the point here. I criticise that they name it star trek and in the end it's not star trek! What I saw is just like a marvel movie, only with different characters, the style how the story is told is way too replaceable with many other series/films. Tng was centred way more on his plot ( yeah I know they haven't much money) and it was soooooo refreshing to see a series which was not centred on only one incident/conflict, showing the depth of human fears and that you can always create much more with words than with rifles.
@@kupferstrich3458 Well if you compare it to a marvel movie I guess there's not much I can say. There's not much resemblance with marvel movies in my opinion. I still get where you are coming from though but I'd suggest giving the series a few more episodes to really get going. I highly doubt all we will be seeing is dajh and earth. And of course it won't be as good as TNG but that's impossible, they'd have to go back in time to create the same sense of chemistry and storytelling. I for one actually liked the emphasis on Picard's ethics, as was always the case with TNG but also showing Picard is really just an old man without his ship and crew.
The Emissary and The Cage were great Star Trek pilots. Very intellectual. Everytime I rewatch them, I pick up on new subtleties.
I've always loved the cage, I didn't mind Broken Bow either

When did Star Trek become Fallout 4. They should be called androids not synths.
There was only 2 androids lore and data...the rest are synths shitty versions for androids
In general, the preferred term was âArtifical Lifeformâ that applied to the Soong-Type Androids (Data, Lore, Lal, Juliana, etc) as well as Holograms (Moriarty, The Doctor, etc) and nonhumanoid constructs like the Exocomps.
@@kingsking2816 that's not true. Kirk ran into several androids. There's only 4 Soong type androids though. Data, Lore, B4, and Lal.

The Romulans have gone from my favorite bag guys to a reminder that this is no longer star trek every time you see one
Bear Knight Well Star Trek has kind of a history of the bad guys inevitably becoming friendlier.
TOS - Klingons were an enemy. TNG - Worf is in Starfleet and Feds aren't fighting Klingons. DS9 - Feds and Klingons are allies.
TNG - (admittedly weaker points to make) Ferengi are supposed to be the new bad guy. DS9 - First Ferengi joins Starfleet. They don't seem that bad after all. I won't try to say the Borg became less bad/evil but we begin to have more empathy for them in Voyager.
Romulans - I forget which show it is where Spock is on Romulus and there seems to be a movement going on where some Romulans want to move past the old ways. Let's not forget they also helped fight the Dominion (did they also betray the Feds!? I forgot)
If you look at Enterprise, the Vulcans were almost a bad guy, as well as Andorians) and look how integrated into the Federation they became. I don't think it's a stretch to believe the iron curtain could fall from Romulans too.
@@GameMakerRob in DS9, although the Romulans do eventually join the coalition to defeat the Dominion, they only do so because they received fake evidence implicating that the Dominion was going to invade Romulan space. And even after joining, they try to set up a hospital on one of Bajor's moons and fill it to the brim with military-grade weaponry. *And* even after all that they still don't like the Federation or the Klingons. Romulans look out for their own interests, period, at the end of the day, that's all they care about. I think a better example of a bad race turning good in DS9 is the Cardassians. They're basically space Nazis at the beginning of the series, but as you get to know Garak (a man who, although deceptive, loves Cardassia), and especially after Damar starts the resistance movement, you see that they're a strong, proud, family-centered people that won't bow to tyranny, at any cost.
I will say that I find it very hard to believe that the Federation could provide any more help evacuating Romulus (which people should've seen coming unless it was plotted in which case there's nothing much you can do) than the Romulans themselves. They have the most advanced warships in the Alpha Quadrant bar none and they somehow don't have the capacity to evacuate Romulus' population in the amount of time for the star to go supernova? And even if the Federation could help, they'd need to go into Romulan space which (last I checked) would be an act of war.
Now, I do think that it's certainly possible, and would be cool, to see the Romulans more fleshed out to see they aren't so bad, just like before as you said. But I think Star Trek Picard has made a mistake in introducing two obviously very important storylines in the first season let alone the first episode. I think if they stuck with one or the other, the synth crisis or the destruction of Romulus, then they wouldn't have to go back and forth so much and have one direction to go in to get the story rolling.
It's the Disney Effect:
- Nothing is "Good"
- Jedis are flawed
- The Federation is flawed
- Evil Empire is justified.
The mickire
ihatescreennames89 Itâs just utterly retarded, lazy writing from the JJverse and that hack Kurtzman. The Romulans had an advanced interstellar empire that spanned thousands of light years and at least hundreds of worlds. They had a vast fleet made up of thousands of starships as well.
It makes absolutely zero sense that the Romulans couldnât detect their home star was going supernova or that they couldnât manage to evacuate their fuckin _capital planet_ on their own with little outside help.
This new âStar Trekâ is such a moronic dumpster fire.
Jedi are flawed that has been established long before Disney
@@jackalh1z117 In the same way a website is flawed if it gets hacked - it was doing a fantastic job of protecting the peace of the republic before the Sith used subterfuge to destroy them. Left alone the Jedi weren't a bad influence on the republic in any way whatsover - Disney however makes them out to be problematic.
â@@Lakrimoz I understand completely but just like the sith, the jedi order was also in many ways was more concerned about keeping their power and self interest in the galaxy. Not trying to say one is better than the other but most Jedi were hypocrites in regards that many did not live by the Jedi code even those on the council. Which is why I liked the prequels despite terrible writing, SGI and acting it did expand on many of the realities surrounding power, conflict and not everything being so black and white.
Still wondering why the Orville went for more Star Trek like no CBS has ever gone before. đ
It started out ok, then rainbow writers took over the Orville.
it's not fantastic, but it's pretty good. "Rainbow" writers did good job, some episodes made me question things, and that's always good. Though, it sucks that i lost my favorite character in season 2. The Orville really sells me on Star Trek, i kinda feel like watching TNG because of it.
@MonkeyZorr Your mom did drugs when she was pregnant with you. Probably still does.
The Orville started as pure shit. Then matured into generic, barely tolerable, "why are you watching this over TNG?" mediocre slop.
At best, they are just re-hashing decent Star Trek episodes.
At worst, you get family guy humor on top of TERRIBLE Star Trek.
And then the various enemies are just conservative straw men for the liberal crew to "tut tut" over.
The Krilla are genocidal religious fanatics and the Moclans are bigoted anti-environmental super-industrialists. The only fault of the "Union?" They are "too tolerant" to deal with the intolerance of other culters. "We tolerant everyone that is exactly like us already!"
Again, these aren't thought provoking episodes so much as the cast punching various straw men that only exist for the crew to look down their noses at. Like that episode that samples teeth to determine zodiac signs, then discrimate based on them. Not once did anyone say "Hey we are from a completely different planet with different signs: we can't even see the same stars!" Why? Because it was a heavy handed allegory about how backwards religion is. As an atheist myself, this caricature of a religious civilization is just insulting.

Halacron forget Enterprise! Ugh schlock action soap opera
I love DS9. It had so great acting and interactions between differen characters. And because it was mostly stationary they could build this six season plot line of dominion wars or the ever present desire of cardassians to be important, powerful, even fear inducing and it all lead to their total destruction. I like it the most. Voyager is somewhat unrealistic to me. It's nice to be all starfleet but if everyone is after you you cannot be so naivly clean and pure. You would most certainly at least used others technologies and ideas to make your ship stronger, more dangerous, scary and faster. No need to attack anyone, just use taiwanees army strategy of heavily armed porcupine.

They kind of messed up on 7 of 9's cameo. If you think back, you'll remember that by the end of Voyager they had actually completely removed all of her external (visible) borg implants. It doesn't really make sense that 20 years later or whatever they would show her now with her forehead piece back in place.
You think the writers care or know Star Trek lore?
or she put it back in place.... then again sometimes borg nanotech regenerates stuff.
I think you need to remember back to the end of Voyager. When voyager finished she still had her external implants, go and watch the last episode of Voyager: End Game, her facial implants and the one on her hand were still the same as they had been through seasons 4 to 7. Her implants in Picard are the exact same as when Voyager ended.
I never really like star trek when its one grand storyline with tons of action and set pieces... star trek is best when its exploration and presenting new interesting ideas every few episodes
TNG hands down best series. Joe is off his rocker, saying he should watch Voyager first.
He did explain why: start with the worst then work your way to the best, instead of vice versa. I don't think that's a bright idea. Just watch chronologically.
While I enjoyed it a bit, I think what really troubles me is how Starfleet was portrayed, especially in regards to the. In the TNG episode where Picard and several others find out the origins of Humanoid life in the galaxy, the episode ends with a Romulan choosing to call Picard. He admits that, as it seems, Romulans and humans really ARE alike: similar hopes, dreams, fears. Picard smiles as he realizes that this single Romulan has come to a mutual understanding. The Romulan then finished it off by saying "one day", to which Picard responds in kind, smile on his face. The Romulans were also a key factor in winning the Dominion War, with the DS9 episode "In the Pale Moonlight" highlighting just how powerful but also how incredibly necessary their involvement in the fight against the Dominion was. As a result, the Romulans lost millions of soldiers, pretty much all of the Tal'Shiar and eventually their version of a high council in Nemesis and I'm supposed to believe that after the destruction of Romulus, Starfleet was hesitant to aid the Romulans?
Also the ban on synthetics doesn't really sound like post-Nemesis Starfleet. Data is EXTREMELY famous (enough that B'ellana Torres heard of him and his exploits throughout the Federation) as is his case where Picard helped him win his freedom and establish his rights. We're supposed to just believe that even after a terrorist attack, there would be a fucking BAN on synthetics? Data literally fucking DIED in Nemesis as a sacrifice. Starfleet is just retroactively overturning the ruling on the rights of artificial life forms because of a fucking TERRORIST ATTACK in a post-Nemesis universe?
IMO the series has my interest but I'm really not liking how they're expecting more of the hardcore fans to just kinda accept where the universe has gone since the last time we've seen it.
Yeah. They have ruined the vision of star trek. this show feels more like a generic sci fi show set in like 2075.
The political message doesnt fit in a world where humans want for nothing. Theres no more racism, people are supposed to be more enlightened. Instead we get ham fisted "racist" news lady. Terrible.
Star Fleet isn't the Government. Its the military, and it takes orders from the Government of Earth, and the Federation, even if they are bad orders. What Picard disliked was that Star Fleet did not object to the orders to abandon the Romulan survivors. Indeed, unlike Nelson, they didn't put their telescope to their bad eye, and bring them to Earth anyway. They were abandoned, and received no further assistance from Earth. Sounds familiar if you were an Afghani interpreter for the Coalition in Afghanistan. That's the problem with Trekkies: they don't want the problems of the real world to impinge on their vision of a universe where Star Fleet can fall short of their ideals as humans do a lot.
@@BigHenFor thanks but I am aware of what happened. I watched the episode. Also Starfleet isn't simply the military. It encompasses peace making, defense, exploration, research, general diplomacy and more branches of the Federation as a whole. It has far more direct influence with the overall Federation government than most real world militaries.
If you re-read what I wrote, I did not object to Starfleet or Trek in daring to show a future where there exist some problems with government. My criticisms lie with how the Picard series chose to portray Starfleet AFTER the events of TNG and Deep Space 9. As I mentioned, there are several big examples from TNG, DS9 and even Voyager that make Starfleet's actions as portrayed in "Picard" really questionable. It doesn't mean they are impossible to ever reconcile but as is, the writing is very sloppy, mostly because it tries to portray Starfleet as immediately losing all the ideals that were built up over 3 different Trek shows by having it refusing to really help Romulans after they helped the Federation in the war, having a ban on synthetics after legal preceding established them as having equal rights, etc.
@@BigHenFor why the fuck does the real world have to determine the vision of a utopian science fiction future set 400years in the future where humanity has reached such a point of abundance that providing aid to millions of living beings is of no consequence.
This sort of message doesnt fit star trek in the way they did it. It would however make sense for starfleet to come across a less advanced race that are in the situation we are in, and starfleet helps them through it.
But these writers are terrible and lazy and want to make a spy drama action show in with the star trek brand on it.
Sisko once went on a massive rant on how the problem was Earth. As it was a paradise they were clueless about what life was were it was a struggle. It was in response to one of many "bad admirals" that were constantly popping up in all Star Trek series and that was before the Dominion War which really messed them up.
Watching your season 2 ep9. Then watching this just makes all this like 100x funnier to watch, thanks for the entertainment

Alright, round 2!
I'm with Alex. Don't start Other Joe on Voyager. TNG is long enough, starts out iffily, and it's possibly the pinnacle of the franchise. Certainly if he's only going to do one, do that one.
@@Thedownliner2015 It was basically TNG light, Seven of Nine and the Doctor were the only thing that saved Voyager.
3:30 - "this doesn't feel like Star Wars" xD xD xD
Make other joe watch Deep Space 9. It's one the best star trek IMO.
You liked it. I didn't.
@FĆfasĂrozĂł Deep Space Nine was a challenge of the idealistic future of the Federation. What happens when such ideals and values are tested. But at no point did it just completely throw them away like this show did.
@@CyrusKazan they never went anywhere. Apart from a little time traveling bit the the USA. Too much politics... Not enough science or different worlds. Everyone has their tastes.
@@CyrusKazan this show also challenges starfleet, it's not like starfleet will be the villains or anything
Deep space nine is the best written/acted series. TNG is the best in terms of Star Trek mythology.
"bring in the cameos"
Sorry Joe, shows cant survive on member-berries. This was the issue with the crisis crossover on CW, the story was incomprehensible crap but they had cameos up the ass which were the only interesting thing about it. If this becomes Cameo Trek : Picard, it will die even faster than it seemingly already is.
Well Discovery had no fan service and it's just shit
That crisis crossover straight up tuned into power rangers

10 episodes....This season? . I remember when TNG was 26 episodes.... A SEASON.. for SEVEN YEARS!
costs for picard is 10x higher than tng
New writers are so bad they can't write more episodes then that
You're expecting quality and quantity? Greed does not computer this! Producers, directors and writers don't really show passion in their projects.
Compute* autocorrect doesn't, either.
@@Endzeitstille You also burn out your cast and crew filming that much to get to the vaunted amount of eps for syndication.
You don't need to crank out that many eps today, esp. if you're dealing with binge culture & speed to market - you're taking time off work if you want to binge TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT a season at a time.
12:35 You must find Picard of Rivia.
RIP to the mamba
Dont care.
I did the same thing. I canceled my CBS account after season one of Discovery. I was disappointed with it from day one.
S2 was so much better than 1 but I also liked 1 for what it was. Wasnt sure if I'd bother after s1 but it was so good in s2
@Lics Norgi yawn
Just say it, you are a coward, your afraid to like it because ppl will make fun of you. From DAY ONE you were DISAPPOINTED , yet you only cancelled after the last episode of season 1, there are 15 episodes in S1, running from September to February. 5 months, yet from day 1 , you were disappinted, you didn't cancel on day one but waited over 150 days to cancel and ironically after season 1 was over. Little man, remember this day, you will always be a coward, you are afraid to say that you like Star Trek Discovery. You have no spine, little toddler.
@@ashzole what, I got no button to push. A coward, a 25 year army vet. I do not run away. I was disappointed because the trailers hyped a female captain yet killed her on the first episode. Also why the hell did they blame that lady for starting a war. She did not. She almost ended it on day one. Almost every episode reminded us of her mutiny yet she was the main character everyone else was filled. Plus the mirror episode tied into the last seasd on of the tv show Enterprise. I watched the season because I hopped it would get better but it never did. Oh, get bent.
@Steve Adams lol not really her its on Netflix only.

DS9 and TNG are probably my favorite series by far.

TNG is the best series.
DS9 had potential to be better but they ruined the ending.
Dog.. DS9 had one of the best, bittersweet endings ever...
Love TNG but godamn, DS9 was almost at another level... just amazing and very emotional at times.
@@Marinealver how was the ending ruined? Because the fate of Sisko was left unknown?
Voyager first?! DS9 fans laugh.
Itâs wild watching these early Picard reviews compared to their finale reviews.

More often than not, just another enemy you'll have to fight. Your enemy being bad doesn't make all others oppossed to them good.
I love Voyager. its a close 2nd to TNG, i always had trouble getting into DS9
You should give DS9 more of a chance, once the dominion war arc starts it gives really good tension that can't be found in other trek shows.
Ds9 can be challenging, depends on what you want from your star trek ;) Voyager has some nice characters but the amount of plot holes is overwhelming :p
You have chosen.. poorly.
@@Etopirynka Maybe Voyager is like root beer...
@Steve Adams Voyager nerfed the borg, then made them a stupid joke nobody takes seriously.
You guys need to rewatch tng thers so many times Picard had to tell Starfleet they were wrong, not to mention insurrection
Star Trek ended at Enterprise, as much as I disliked the show, and has gone no further.
Please watch the redletter media review. Thank you.
It was all their fault, Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens. Those idiot writers/producers stole their ideas not realizing it was all a bad joke!
Fuck RLM and their hive mind fans.
Red letter guys suck. Both on their period of something.
*Laughs in Rich Evans*
Its kind of funny, cause Joe and OJ are the 'jay's that Rich and Mike are talking about, lol!
Watch TNG, I love Voyager, no need to watch it, apart form understand that 7 of 9 is a Borg they rescue and becomes part of the crew.
One thing I noticed: Picard wears a suit similar to the style in Aliens (the collars are upturned), except with a Reverse Windsor-knotted tie.
Episode 2 seems to be a lot of, you didn't know this, here look at this, its just what we need to propel the story forward.
I'm looking forward to season 3 of the Orville.
I love how Joe plays with his phaser the whole time.
He's clearly thinking about stunning Other Joe.
( ÂŹâż ÂŹ)
I am so glad that they made Picard a paragon man that uses reason. It made me believe the writer actually watched the TNG show.
Unlike a certain other Sci-fi series
true, Picard always tackled political, moral and ethical dilemmas. now that i think about it, this isn't the first time starfleet said F'U to someone outside the federation. happened in Star trek insurrection, Journey's End S7E2, the Maquis....
Isn't this the plot of megaman that humanity made human based robots and they go maverick and start a revolt?
Other Joe, as a Star Trek fan who's watched most of the episodes, I'd recommend starting with The Next Generation, then, if you want more TNG with a new cast and new plotline, go for Voyager, regardless, end with Deep Space Nine (it's a lot to take in). Only watch The Original Series if you want to see where it all started and get some pretty campy (and great) action. I haven't seen Enterprise, but I hear it's better than its reputation makes it out to be, so it may be worth a watch. Discovery is more of a Star Trek for the modern viewer (which I think degrades it pretty badly).
Suggestion:
How about a mid-season catch up vid?
They're probably going to treat this like Game of thrones and The Mandalorian, and do a review per episode.
@@MoriartyTheFifth Nah, they said they were not doing that for this show. It was earlier in the vid, I think.

First TNG , then Deep Space Nine , then watch the scenes of Voyager with seven-of-nine... aaaand thats it... :)
A year ago I could not wait for this, but now having watched the first two episodes I find myself unable to enjoy TNG episodes anymore. Somehow the franchise has ended up in some dark terrible version of Starfleet like Yesterday's Enterprise, but we all know there's no end of episode reset button with this, and that's really not how I expected the universe I adored to end up in. I can't even give it a positive rating above zero as it's actively impacted my view of everything that came before. Probably somewhere in the ballpark of minus 3.
I actually went back to TNG and found it absolutely great.

Picard was having a dream, it could be any ship. The whole thing made no sense, that's ok because it wasn't real.
That why the ten forward windows only three of them writer lit up even though the whole room was lit.....
Since it's a dream it doesn't need to make sense.
So I'm only 4 seasons into TNG When does Piccard become best friends with Data, Geordie is his best friend?
Just finished the last episode. Maybe when Picard sat to the poker game with all of the senior staff :)
During the movies I'd say. They're definitely closer in the movies
Picard is more of a father figure to him.
He doesn't, Dr Crusher is Picard's best friend and Geordi is Data's. But since they're the two best known characters from TNG, they're best friends now.
One thing I havenât seen anyone ask is why does Dagh being part android turn her into Jason Bourne when she becomes activated? Data never did any of that.
Va-poo-rized!

37:50 Any Starfleet Diplomat worth his salt knows some days you need to fence to negotiate. Hikaru Sulu managed the first successful talks with the Tholians by having a freaking sword fight with their leader.
@Cyrus Wolfe Even commissioner Fox learned his lesson from Kirk on this equipping the first embassy to Kronos with cavalry sabres and 22nd century phase pistols.
In theory, this sets up a scenario where Data fights for his rights as an individual, supported by the Enterprise crew (in TNG), the synthetic rebellion sets this back and now Picard has to pick up the gauntlet for Data's legacy. However, in Star Trek, we expect reasonable discourse as the means of solving problems, but instead them seem intent on solving it with phasers (and bowie knives).
The thing about Starfleet not helping is essentially how many wanted to react to the Klingon disaster in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country so I'm more willing to accept it.
I can't believe the first one got claimed so fast. I just clicked it and it said private and the second time I click it gets claimed lol
