Picard is supposed to be a show about characters trying to deal with past tragedies. But the writers are too myopic and limited in their experience and ability to tackle such a complex subject. Star Trek has always dealt with trauma and tragedies. Worf's parents were killed by the Romulans, Beverly's husband was killed on an away mission, Sisko's wife was killed by the Borg, Kira was a terrorist, several of Voyager's crew were Maquis, Seven was a Borg, Kim was Kim, etc. But old Trek showed that different people dealt with trauma in different ways, and different kinds of trauma affect people differently. A survivor of war wasn't affected the same way as someone abandoned by their parents. They were dramatic when they needed to be dramatic, but they used tact and subtlety when it was appropriate.
In Discovery and Picard, no one knows how to handle their trauma. Everyone is crippled by it, their lives are consumed by it. It seems like the writers think that trauma impacts everyone the same way, regardless of the type of trauma or the person being affected.
Although, I will say that John de Lancie is great as Q. The writing is terrible but de Lancie's acting is just so good. Imagine how great Q would be if the writers gave him good dialogue.

It's as if the writers think the doctor character is from the 1800s and has no basic concept of what computers are or what the words "diagnostic" or "subroutine" might mean.
They are supposed to be in the year 2024. The only part of that she would not understand is "Borg", but your average person would still grasp the general idea of what he is saying.

Theres an entire episode dedicated to him in Star Trek: Enterprise, played by Bill Cobbs.
The first few seasons of Enterprise, is no one wanting to use the transporters because theyre new and unfounded.
The Daedalus episode is when Dr Erickson comes on board to test out "new transporter technology for sub-quantum teleportation" under the guise that its to increase the range of the transporters, when in reality there was a transporter accident many years before and his son was "scrambled" and its about him trying to get his son back.

Picard has a picture of his mother where she looked like she was in her 70's or 80's, so she probably didn't die until Picard was in his 40's. And she never had any problems with her mental health after that one incident and they never talked about her mental health during all that time? I never thought I'd see the day when literally all the hope, critical thinking, nuances and decent allegory would be gone from Star Trek. I grew up on Star Trek and it helped shape many of my better world views but had it been this Kurtzman stuff instead? I'd never have cared and just found something else watch. When the world needed a better world with humanity at its best and full of hope. Kurtzman and his team removed it all from the series.
Just it truly hurts me. I remember sharing ToS with my dad who liked old shows. TNG was the show we had pizza nights to watch and DS9 was the one shared with my brother in debates. While Voyager since we didn't have cable was the one my aunt taped and gave us to enjoy. Both as a solid memory and what the series stood for about humanity it truly hurts me that this is what it is now.

Per your recommendation I have not seen either season of this show. But it sounds to me as if the producer are using a movie format to tell a television story. In a movie or a novel you would have 2 or more plots that would converge somewhere in act 2 and then finish the story. In "classic" television multiple plots would be space out or hinted to throughout the main plot objective. This way the alternative plot could be revisited if it gained momentum in later seasons. The format used now is to run multiple plot to run parallel and come to a form of conclusion in case it can revisited in a future season.

I am hoping they use that Sci-Fi time travel trope where they fix the time line and the none of the events of this season happened in the first place. Or at the very least, have Beverly crusher wake up the morning to the sound of a shower running where she discovers Jean-Luc and it is revealed she dreamt the entire season. 😊
