In First Contact, Picard himself explained to Lily Sloane how humanity surpassed capitalism. Itâs unbelievable that those writers didnât watch the source material.
that movies was even directed by frakes. whodirected the last two episodes. i guess at this point he's just cashing a cheque and laughing at how messed up they made this crap show as he slips off to go work on the orville.
Class Warfare, Star Trek and TNG Federation of Planets was not Socialist Enough!!!
No one honor or watches source material anymore.
Thats my vision as a creator you don't like it well you can f**k off you goddamn entitled incel.
Sad life when entertainment become soulless cash grabbing corporate gas lighting agenda machine.
To be fair that's only on Earth and federation controlled territories. INDIVIDUAL humans can still engage in commerce, akin to Mudd. Remember Mudd? He used money. Klingons use money. That said, it's good sci fi, but bad Star Trek.
Patrick Stewart is one of the writers..lol Star wars sucks now star trek sucks, is there anything left???
Star Trek fan:I fcking hate this..
Star Wars fan: I know how you feel bro...
Dr Who fan: You two have no idea what True pain is
Porn fan: tits feet!
We must suffer as brothers
Star wars/dr who/ terminator fans: "First time?"
Hey at least the Mandalorian was good.
"Somehow, this is all wrong. This is not the way it's supposed to be." - Guinan
I just rewatched that episode yesterday. So old and still vastly superior to this crap.
YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO FIGHT THE SITH NOT JOIN THEM T.T
Somehow, Palpatine returned.
I want Q to appear in the last episode and say: "Jean-Luc, isn't this reality a complete bore? let's get back to how things were, shall we?"
What you wrote there has more thought put into it than the actual plot of STP. I want to like this, but it's hot garbage
âYou having a good laugh now, Q? Does it amuse you to think of me living out the rest of my life as a dreary man hated and yelled at by every younger woman in charge?â
âI gave human civilization something most species never experience: a second chance. And now all you can do is complain?â
âI can't live out my days as that person. That universe is bereft of passion... and imagination! That is not who I am!â
TNG did this in the episode "Tapestry".
Omg yes please! Q save us for Qs sake save us!!!!
As Charlie brown once said: That's It!!!!!!!
Mike Stoklasa's take on Picard. "A slow car ride to a cliff."
Yeah, Picard is such a fucking slow series.. Everytime an episode ends, im always ending up thinking.. "did anything happen in this episode besides that one thing?".. Nothing like classic star trek..
Even better is how Rich Evans described this show:
"This is written by people, who know even less about the Star Trek universe, than our Jay."
("Jay" as in Jay Baumann, the third RLM guy,who is not really into Star Trek, unlike Rich & Mike who are big Trekkie fanbois.)
Maybe the show is trying to "break new ground"
I'm just watching, hoping Mike's Predictions come true; everyone with a Ninja Sword in a hallway *vs* Loqutus
My dad predicted that KHAN!!? was behind it all along
My prediction is Picard is the Android
Russell Archer I really hope so. The franchise is already a dumbed-down schlocky dumpster fire at this point. Trek is dead. Might as well go all out with the dumbest shit possible now.
Locutus dual wielding phaser swords vs the entire bland cast in an exploding Borg cube.
Imagine if Q came to judge this mankind. Wouldn't last three seconds.
That starfleet bitch would walk up as he snaps his fingers. âSHEER.FUCKING.HUBRISâ
Im sure Q would delete the first Woke asshole he met..đ
Would be great, it's not like the world is going great anyways lol
Q was right.......Hes gotta pop in and break Picards balls.
Doesn't Q know everything, including the future? Maybe this is why he was messing with them so much in TNG. If it all was going to just devolve in a couple decades, I'd mess with that dummy society too. :P
First Luke Skywalker then Ghostbusters then John conner and now Picard, This is (Cultural vandalism)
shut up and accept the kalergi plan you bigot the tribe has spoken!
yay I'm Like number 111.
Whew, for a moment there I almost thought John Carter was a part of your list instead of John Connor. RIP Terminator (it was dead as soon as they failed to use a rendition of the iconic theme in the trailer).
@@petercampi2840 play terminator resistance if you haven't. it's the true next movie, over woke fate. and they mixed all the previous themes together to make an awesome homage theme as the menu music, it's great. people complain about the AI being dumb but the stiff movement and one track mind suits terminators, really.
Ghostbusters 2016 was released before the Last Jedi ruined Lukes character. But I agree with the sentiment, though is Picards character actually ruined? Or just the federation?
I'm so glad they bought Icheb back to torture him, drill his eye out, then slice the optic nerve in _graphic detail_ What wonderful fan service! I especially enjoyed when Seven mercy killed him, even though medical tech is so advanced they could just spray him and he'd be fine. I'm so glad these writers care deeply about treating Star Trek with respect and remaining true to Gene Roddenberry's vision.
I was appalled by the mercy killing. Just the cherry on top of that scene.
Apparently Icheb implants had been already remove to the point where he knew he was going to die. I still hate that scene, this is not Star Trek
I didnt even know who that was until the internet because it came out of no where.
They didn't bothered to earn that death scene
Id recommend checking out the RedLetterMedia analysis of the Icheb scene. It seems to be very much politically motivated and they used his character to be an effigy of the actor who originally portrayed him
@@xellosmetallium8519 If they have advanced to the point where the hard part of making flesh androids isn't making the body as stated earlier in the season I find it difficult to believe they couldn't replace whatever Icheb was missing with new parts.
On a side note.....can this be some alternate reality that Q created just to teach Picard a lesson? PLEASE?
You're not far off. Since this was made on the same alternate creative license as the JJ movies, so this is in effect, an alternate reality.
I feel like this is some alternate reality that Q created to teach ME a lesson! Not just the show.. everything now a days
@@KiltedCritic No. Its the prime universe timeline.
well whatever it is its a world that fails q's test for humanity so he's going to wipe us all out in episode 10
They can do anything they want if they give me more Q scenes

At least it's not Dr.Who.. Oh wait
Arcademan09 It feels absolutely awful. Like, I want to genuinely kill myself.
@@KaneK1234 I feel you bro, it's like everything that I have loved my entire life is gone forever. Trek,DW,SW, Indiana Jones, Im sure there are more if it didnt hurt to think about it.
TheHunterWolf thanks, you just ruined my day. Itâs times like now that I want to take up drinking.
This is basically a scam! It has "Star Trek" in the title, but instead it's a dark, gritty, depressing, dystopian Sci-Fi show starring Patrick Stewart.
Gone are the Braga/Berman days of Star Trek writing.
If it was a dark, gritty, depressing, dystopian Sci-Fi show it would have something going for it!!!!
From the first episode I had a feeling that someone pitched a cyberpunk show about androids and it was retooled and got the Star Trek license slapped on it because studios are too cowardly to invest in new intellectual properties with no preexisting fanbase.
18:50 That part had me dying cuz it was so *STUPID* đđđđđđ
@@keithdoyle6535 Yea the writing is bad.
Whatâs this âPicardâ and âDiscoveryâ that youâre talking about? I thought they rebranded Star Trek into âThe Orvilleâ.
John Connor Pliskin it actually feels more like Star Trek
What's interesting to me is that The Orville was intended (I think) as sort of a parody, but now it is far more canon than Picard, Discovery, or the Kelvin timeline movies.
@@DavePruett I don't think it was supposed to be a Parody, it was supposed to be Star Trek but with humor at times and that's what it is.
More like the Snorville mirite??!
@@WCanyon No, infact you're entirely wrong.
Let's face it, The Orville is the closest we have to classic Star Trek anymore.
It's funny really. The only way Discovery and Picard are Trek is in name. And the only way Orville isn't Trek is... also the name.
I think we can thank Galaxy Quest for The Orville as well.
Galaxy Quest was also great Star Trek.
With jokes I love Orville
Man I don't even like The Orville that much but it's way better compared to what Star Trek has become.
REmember when SEven of Nine got plastered off one half glass of champagne because she can't process alcohol? Now she's pounding drinks. Great char development.
Stunning and brave, they broke new ground!
You'd think she'd at least mention that she had some upgrades and can now drink alcohol/synthehol without getting drunk from one glass, all it takes is a single line, but I guess that would distract from the eyeball gouging.
she did have a couple of decades to build up her tolerance.
As RLM said, Seven should have been working at the Daystrom institute building androids with her massive intellect. Instead she's off shooting people and being some vengeance fueled freelancer after seeing Icheb dead because that's the grown up Star Trek.
This! But I guess that Kurtzman must have mixed Star Trek with Hostel (though a have a feeling that Eli Roth would make a more faithful Star Trek than these hacks).
"Poverty is coming back" .... HOW?!? Even the defense of maybe it's coming back doesn't make sense in terms of the Star Trek Universe. They have REPLICATORS which can easily make food, clothing, and shelter.
Take a look at Voyager which was just a small ship stranded on it's own for years and thanks to their tech it was very rare that they were every struggling to get by. Any temporary shortages they had was due in large part to them being on their own without the support of the massive resource of the Federation.
Part of the reason the Federation eliminated these issues is because of the advances in technology. It's like having safe drinking water is not some luxury for only the rich. Advances in indoor plumbing has brought clean water to the masses. Same is true with food, clothing, and so many other things with Replicators.
THE SHEER FUCKING HUBRIS.
talking about voyager to prove your point is hilarious. they held together BECAUSE they were stranded and BECAUSE they were on their own.
not everyone on this planet has indoor plumbing an clean water. the same goes for the star trek future. not everyone has access to the advanced technology you mention.
@@zaubermaus8190 Try actually watching the show and doing a tiny bit of research before you post. There is no poverty on Earth in Star Trek. Humanity eliminated it centuries ago.
â@@Gunnar001 why are you posting this answer to me? i never said there would be poverty on earth and i didn't see any poverty on earth in picard either. so your point being? the OP quoted "poverty is coming back" emphasis on "BACK". edit: plus that quote isn't worth anything without further details anyway. AND even if something like "poverty" was eliminated CENTURIES ago doesn't mean it stays that way... just look at things like illnesses or even physics... "humanity" thought to have reached the end of such things several times in the past and humanity was always wrong.
It's always amusing when people try to impose modern day issue into Star Trek world. In a world where you can literally make food, water, and clothing out of thin it kinda hard to argue why anyone would still be struggling in poverty to feed & cloth themselves.
And the excuse "not everyone has access to the tech" is a complete failing to understand how the tech work and the world in which it occupies. It would be a bit like trying to claim homeless people living in the park in our world don't have access to the advance tech of plumbing to get clean water, when most parks have free drinking fountains to distribute clean drinkable water for free to another who wants it.
Well the same goes for the future with Star Trek. It's very easy to imagine free food replicators available to all because we actually see this on DS9. Not only is it mentioned that every quarters has a food replicator but there is also that free open cafe you see Dr Bashir and Garak eat at all the time. People just walk up to the replicators and ask for a food/drink which appears followed by them picking a table to sit at. So it's easy to imagine similar setups all over on Earth as well as most Federation worlds.
As for those who think the Federation is an unrealistic vision of the future I have to say they don't really understand Human nature. The ideals of greed is good and money drives things is a by product of our over commercialized society which puts value on the accumulation of things.
Humans are social creatures and what they want is a place to belong and to feel that they are valued. It's why hopeless and desperate people often fall victim to cults, which I think most would find it hard to argue are motivated by money, they are instead often motivated by power.
While some people do seek power and fame it's often emphasized that money is the way to achieve those things. And so to keep people on the spending treadmill companies advertise that buying more things can solve their problems but to do that they need more money. After all when you keep getting told hammers can fix any problem eventually everything looks like a nail. :)
If you take any economics courses and actually pay attention to the studies done it becomes quite obvious that people are not as greedy and selfish as the modern cut throat companies would like you to believe, which are just trying to get a free pass by claiming it's only natural to act that way. It's amusing in various studies the economist found the results "surprising" only because they treated people as heartless machines in their theories.
The Dictator experiment is one where a person is given $10 and they can keep as much or as little as they want. Supposed logic would say the person should keep all and give nothing since the other person has no say in the outcome. Yet the person playing the part of the Dictator still gives some part of the money away.
Another version of this is where the other person does get a say in which they can choose to accept or reject. If they reject both people get nothing. Once again "logic" would say the person receiving should accept regardless of how small the amount is as they are better off, yet more often than not the person would reject it making both people get nothing if they felt the other person was being to greedy.
There are plenty more experiments which have results all showing that most people don't like greedy people and will try to punish them even at the expense of themselves, it's why revolutions happen where the peasants burn everything down often hurting themselves and why a large wealth gap in a society if a very destabilizing force.
And those who also don't understand evolutionary pressures would think this seemly self destructive trait to be counter productive to a species. But it's actually very advantageous as similar results are observed in other social animals. To quote the Starks, "The lone wolf dies but the pack survives." An individual who only thinks of themselves can't be trusted to work together in tough times which is often required in order to make it out alive.
Ultimately though as anyone who has studied monitory theory can tell you, money isn't real. It only has a value based on what we place on it. If one day we collectively decide it's worthless then it will be. In a post scarcity society like Star Trek it's easy to see the importance of money going away as people no longer need to worry about having money to live.
I doubt money will go away but it will become less important to get a job but instead simply be about doing what you love, like people who make a living on youtube. Or some will get jobs to keep busy, as working various jobs over the years I've meet quite a few retired people who have jobs because they are bored of staying home all day and don't need the money. And with improvements in automation most of the undesirable jobs will get replaced by machines but even then some people actually like their jobs, just watch the show Dirty Jobs.
Romulan incest = Cersei+Jaime Lannister from GameOfThrones
They're just throwing all kinds of stuff at the wall, hoping something will stick -- BladeRunner android-replicant-synths, Romulan SamuraiElves, Rangers, GameOfThrones, etc, etc
Dahj/Soji/Rey will either be Palpatine's granddaughter or the next Borg queen
That sister is the worst character in the show: if she had a mustache, I'm pretty sure she'd twirl it.
It doesn't even feel like a real show. It's like a bad tumblr fanfic with a 30 million dollar budget.
That's my biggest problem with the show. Not the plot holes, not the ignoring of lore, not writing Picard like Charles Xavier more than Captain Picard... It's that the show, visually and in tone seems to just be multiple things and has zero identity.
It's trying to be everything and ends up being this weird scifi soup that blander than anything.
@@hardy83 Yes, it's "writing by committee, as dictated by the marketing department - and all of them hate and look down on Science Fiction". Seriously, it's such an obvious paint-by-numbers thing full of contempt for the audience's intelligence. At least the special effects are nice. :(
They need intrigue and betrayal from Battle Star Galatica, they want the humor from Orvel, they also want covert military operations from The Expanse.
What they got, is a mess!
Didn't Star Trek IV make fun of modern day swearing when the crew went back in time to the 20th century?
Now the current writers are turning the franchise into one of the things it lampooned.
Colorful metaphors!
Double dumbass on this show!
Data cursed in Generations tho
Sheer fucking Who dis?
Exactly what i thought ,they should have used writers that really know the lore and not how rlm said that the writers only knew the cube and data
"Alex: He has a cool sword, do you think he can set it to STUN?" That got me..
Just use the full side. Sword essentially become a bat
To be fair, it's a Romulan sword. They do have stun settings on their weapons I believe but it's probably generally less important to them.
Step 1: Get a flamethrower. Step 2: Set flamethrower to stun. Step 3: Get mushroom tech from Discovery to make it make sense for sense because tacheons.
Command Consoles powered by Taychon never fail. Whoever design the ships should be fired.
Huh? I thought it was mentioned that Romulan handweapons don't have stun setting... Which doesn't make sense given how information collecting-savy they are, you'd think their agents would have a stun weapon at hand if they want to capture an important person for interrogation or some other activity, like they do to Geordi in that Manchurian candidate TNG episode.
This is actually damaging the legacy of the character Picard and Star Trek for me.
@va m Very good point, actions speak louder than words and the impression that he gives is one of not caring about the legacy of the character, I don't know what he is paid but it does seem he is doing it just for the money.
In the end they'll probably say "oh it's an alternate universe. None of this counts" then the trekies will eat it up
@@cdreyes81 Good point, its a damn cheat but I'm sure it will work.
Yes, now I can hardly watch TNG anymore, because it reminds me of this godawful perversion of Star Trek.
And I could maybe ignore that but I know bloody well that Patrick Stewart pushed for this upfron political agenda that got inserted into his show and has also some saying what and how he wants the story to develop.
That's also the reason why I immediately stopped watching this show once 7 of 9 came in. I grew up with Voyager and Voyager is my favourite ST series (I know). And it remained untouched by all these hollywood freaks for so long.
I won't let that new show destroy my favourite memories of Star Trek
@@MyN0N4M3 Seeing 7 of 9 was too much as well for me, Voyager was also my favorite growing up and its bad enough seeing the legacy of Picard being destroyed but I ain't going to see anything Voyager destroyed so I'm done. When it comes to Patrick Stewart, well its just another example of a great actor not being that great in real life, its one of the reasons why I have no interest in any of these people off screen.

I don't understand why they have blue-collar workers on Mars when there's no money. Whoever writes this stuff is completely clueless.
Yeah and whining about their food while the replicator can literally give them anything they want.
It's not really anything new, though. There was a guy working as a waiter on earth at Sisko's eatery. You're telling me in a perfect society where anyone is free to pursue anything they desire you are going to have people picking "waiter"? That's like going to heaven and deciding yea, I really think what I want to do is work on somebody else's farm for free all day. I could actually cite a bunch of examples, but there's a ton of stuff that makes no sense if you think about it, and it wasn't introduced with Picard. I still don't like Picard, but let's not pretend Star Trek's gaping plot holes and bad writing in general began with it. They are ancient institutions.

Yeah, watch The Orville, and pretend that ST ended when Enterprise ended.
Or earlier.
Enterprise was a slap in the face to the Star Trek franchise, which ended with a cuddle. STD and Picard are chainsaw massacres.
Pretend?
Agreed, though I am not a fan of Seth MacFarlane. But, The Orville is WAY more Trek than current "Star Trek". Watched a recent Voyager cast reunion and they were saying the same thing. Pretty sad when the legacy actors are dumping on their own IP cause it's so bad.
Last two season of Enterprise were surprisingly worthwhile. Of course, the best series was Deep Space 9.
Why do the Romulans need saving, they just as advanced as starfleet.
They also had a huge empire with hundreds of planets.
Because muh stunning and brave political """"metaphor"""".
If not more. They had cloaking technology before Starfleet did after all.
Because they wanted space refugees and couldn't be bothered to come up with a new species.

As someone who grew up with TNG and DS9 in the 90s I hate this show. The writing is just horrible.
Itâs so bad. It basically shits all over Voyager, DS9 and TNG. I hate is so much.
Yep, I know it is. Pretty fucking obvious. I don't even shit on its agenda, but it's just not subtle enough. It's sooooo on the nose and cheap. That's what most ppl don't get. I always here the argument "but star trek was always political blah blah blah". They just don't understand what the writing was on another level most of the time and that its political subtext was subtle, thought provoking and not preachy.

Why does everyone forget the Dominion War?! We would be speaking Vorta If it weren't for the Romulans and the Remans!
The writers don't know anything about the Dominion War, it probably didn't even happen in this alternate timeline which has more in common with the awful movies starting from the 2009 reboot.

Theyâre mandating the same things with Picard that they did with Star Trek: Enterprise.

You know a show's gonna be bad when Joe's hands are on his face. Ha!
U done fucked it up
That is the point. You are learning.
Very fair score there, IMHO.
How to fix the show: Use the "Picard was trapped in the Enterprise-E main Holodeck (which is malfunctioning), infected by a virus (the Stewart Kurzman disease?) that has given him Dementia." The end of the season is Picard being rescued, then dropped off at the nearest 'House of Care' run by Romulan Nuns in black - his Dementia having never been healed. The next season is everyone but Picard going off and trying to discover who created the malfunction (of the Holodeck) and hopefully finding a cure for Picard before he dies.
Make the whole first season a "Bad Dream" :-P Because it's a nightmare tbh.
Create a new super-villain that caused the whole lot to occur. Mars is still OK, the 'synths' uprising never happened (wtf did they come from anyway???) and the Federation is as doting as ever it was - with more tech than ever before ;-) The Romulans are as fractured as their former empire - creating new enemies, allies and neutrals all over the place.
*wistful and hopeless sigh*
Heres what id like them to do and it is complete wishful thinking.
Going from where we're at with Episode 6, The synthetics create a kind of android invasion, leading to a shadow-war between the Romulan Secret society and a unknown number of Borg androids who had infiltrated Galactic Civilisation. Instead of rushing Picard meeting Sogi when he gets onboard the Borg Cube.
Stretch things out to where Picard spends some time on the Borg cube once he meets Hue. His presence as once being Locutus would be a big thing and he really sees how the ex-Borg truly are and strikes a Bond with them, they revere him. This would create "ethical" questions, leading us the viewer unsure as to whether Picard is in the right.
Draw out this Borg sub-plot giving it more focus in the season, Picard knows Sogi is on the Artefact sent by Bruce Maddox for a as-yet unknown reason. When he finally finds Sogi, Picard would be suspicious of her lover Narek, but he would have had no reason to believe he worked for the Zhat Vash. Viewers would have been unsure too; us viewers would have known Commadore Oh referred to a Romulan who was close to Soji, but Narek is hardly following protocol in becoming her lover.
From here i would have it where Soji was created by Maddox from Data and she is the very thing Data strived to become, but was created as a means for either the Federation (through Maddox) or the Romulans (Doctor Jurati) with a Romulan spy changed to look human; to control androids for their own means.
I would stop splitting the narratives the way the show does, and build up to a climax. The show has potential to really cleverly explore ethical questions and themes of what does it mean to be human? With this whole synthetic theme, which they have obviously been heavily inspired by Data and the Measure of a Man episode from TNG.
Also i would NOT make the Romulans responsible for creating the Borg, that simply takes away all their mystery and intrigue, but simply make it where the Borg are now exploited by the Romulans.
Patrick Stewart is pushing 70, id kill him off in the second season, resolve this Borg/Synth sub-plot, lead it upto where bad apples are rooted out in the Federation, gonna take time to restore the Federation back to what it once was, Synths become full citizens, free and equal rights. And Picard himself is redeemed and honored in the eyes of the Romulans and the Federation, where a new Federation ship is commissioned and named in his honor, taking the series forward.
Use the existing characters we have, with the Romulan/Elrond looking guy joining starfleet, along with Hue as a science officer and Soji, that Captain becomes a regular returning character (like Q) who helps our the crew. And we get the Enterprise - F named "USS PICARD" brought into glorious canon.
And the show moves forward back into "exploration" past the Delta Quadrant mapping whole new parts of the Galaxy.
My problem is the same as it was with Discovery: it's mostly about interpersonal drama between characters I don't care about. The old ST series were not as dramatic, it was never about interpersonal drama. The last drop for me was when the only character I liked a bit, the blond woman simply killed someone, especially because the way she killed that person: like a psychopath.
"it was never about interpersonal drama" Bullshit!

Star Trek was always about the crew discovering and interacting with different planetary cultures, and using that as a subtle narrative vehicle to comment on relevant political and social issues. It seems that the latest incarnations of Star Trek - whether they are the J.J. Abrams movies, Star Trek: Discovery, or now Star Trek: Picard - have jettisoned this concept so as to simply peddle wokeness and cliched action. They took what made Star Trek different from other space related fiction and just threw it out the window. Its no wonder so many of the die hard fans of the original series, and the spin offs that came out in the 80s and 90s, are so frustrated with both Discovery and Picard.
A prime example of these primitive beings with their values and need of money. Now, Now don't get too close. Be nice to them. They're our guests.
It was always woke though. Always. A lot of the allegorical stuff, was either poorly integrated, or didnât make sense. It always stuck out like a sore thumb. Remember how awkwardly diverse the bridge was in the original show, how Q just rambled about âthe horrors of manâ without context. The whole thing was woke. Seriously. I love Star Trek, but the whole thing is pretty hammy. Itâs always been like that.
Deep Space Nine... Nuff said
@Obsidikis Necrosine except as others have said-the issues they brought up made sense with the shows logic and lore-here they dont give a fuck.
And being woke nowadays means bashing on men and having women be in every role even torturing(literally) and destroying beloved characters for the sake of bringing down "toxic masculinity".
The show was woke in a everyone tries to get along kind of way-these shows are a dark and hateful kind of woke where everybody hates on picard and characters that are male for no fucking reason
@Obsidikis Necrosine I disagree. Star Treks strength has always been to ask questions in a subtle way not to deliver simple answers. WeÂŽve also seen characters struggling with their own morale dilemma, when they were confronted with complicated questions and choices had to be made. Picard is nothing of that. ItÂŽs selling a simple agenda, Sir Patricks agenda obviously.
"Do you think the Romulans created the Borg?" Oh God! Oh no! That's so stupid I hadn't even thought about that. I really hope not. Just no.

@@russellarcher5181 Hah, wont that be amazing.
CBS has perverted this once great series. That scene with Borg having it's cybernetic implants being taken out while alive is NOT Star Trek! Rodenberry would've never allowed that. Kurtzman and his ilk, do not understand or respect this show and what it's really about. To them it's just an excuse to use curse words and violence, cause they THINK that's what people really wanted to see in Star Trek. It's typical Abrams fluff. Science that doesn't really make sense, even within the fictional universe's rules. Poorly developed characters, and contrived, bloated C.G. action scenes. I'm glad I don't have all access. I'd never use the fucking thing, especially for this.
All this is really about CBS and other big networks and corporations out there just dont want to make things properly to cater to the fans anymore. They are purely motivated by "MONEY", they have seen recent popular shows like Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, they have witnessed the sheer amount of viewers those shows reeled in each week, and it was alot. Those shows captured the interest of just regular "mainstream audience", who would have never been interested in those genres before, as well as the fanbase that was already there through the books and comics;
CBS in their greed to make their streaming service "CBS ACCESS" the top-dog and compete with all the rest, are absolutely desperate to make one of their biggest IPs the "Star Trek" franchise appeal to this samekind of huge, mainstream audience.
And this is fundamentally the main reason why CBS have no desire to stick to the original format of exploration, and themes of ethics, morality and philosophy, basically thinking-man's science fiction ofwhich Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek always was. And its because if they keep the show sticking to it's roots, they only generate "Fansbase" money, which in statistics only amounts to like a quarter of the tv viewing public.
I dont agree with this either, but this is the truth today, sadly our beloved franchises are owned by big, greedy, fat bloated corporations, who are only interested in making as much money as they can in this digital world of the streaming service.
It really is kind of thanks to GoT and The Walking Dead that now everyone seeks to copy and emulate those shows, with the excessive violence, mystery box twists, episodic writing, sex and incest. They're all trying to go that way because they thinks thats most popular, sadly us "fanbases" just dont matter anymore.
Theyâd rather pander to morons and SJWs over their dedicated fanbase.
Watch THE EXPANSE instead and forget all this trash they're putting out with Star Trek slapped on top of.

7:04 exactly, there's a reason that fans were attracted to the franchise in the first place, why change the entire formula
Its a mixture of things tbh. Today we have big corporations like Disney, buying everything up. Studios competing with eachother, using audiences and fans basically as ATMs they think they can just milk cash from whenever.
1. Where Star Trek is concerned you have a licensing issue between Paramount and CBS, who split then merged again in a new deal with Viacom who originally own the rights to the original "Star Trek" canon.
2. In 2009 JJ came in with a alternate license which he thought if he made Star Trek appeal to a wider, mainstream audience, he could milk money off of planned merchandising, this he marketed heavily as a alternate universe of Star Trek, or the "Kelvin Timeline".
3. CBS and Paramount thought this would work well for both of them, only it failed because JJ's Alt Trek movies never took off once Trekkies began to realize it was too stylish, too action orientated and just didnt feel like "Star Trek".
4. CBS tried to carry this on going back to Tv but were very vague about how they sold it to fans and audiences. So we got Star Trek Discovery, which although was not set in the Kelvin timeline of JJ's Trek movies, still was not even set in the canon "Star Trek" main timeline of TOS, TNG, DS9 and VGR.
Discovery was met with luke warm reception and once the second season rolled along, enough Fan had checked out feeling it also was too far away from proper "Star Trek", too generic. So CBS try again thinking they can get away with the same generic shit with no substance, only they bring back a iconic, legendary character, "Jean Luc Picard", hoping it will gain fan's interest. It did but people are soon starting to see this Picard series is same toned down for mainstream audience and not "real Star Trek".
I humbly suggest that the fanbase should headcanon this as the "Stewart-verse" and consider it as the same level of canon as the "Shatner-verse" novels--vanity projects by the actors who played the characters, not to be taken seriously by anyone.
So Star Trek: Picard has a person of Latin American descent as the captain/pilot of a ship, whose job is to illegally transport people into areas where they don't belong. So he is sort of like a futuristic version of a Mexican coyote who takes undocumented immigrants across national borders. For a show that is trying to be "woke", Picard's casting sure seems racist đ
in case you didnt realize, the woke mindset is racist to the core. They're advocates of identity politics in every aspect of it. It's racist and it's disgusting. They've now infiltrated television and we have to deal with this garbage on our screens
Star Trek has always been progressive, maybe you missed that

Honestly, while the recent Star Trek movies have been bombastic and fun...they just lack Gene Roddenberry's intellectualism and vision for the future. They were trying to apply modern character flaws and growth to what was meant to be a more mature mankind.
And here I see (or rather, hear) that Picard has devolved backward even more.
The thing that's so quintessentially Star Trek is that the protagonists are usually objective people with their own lives we follow with the show, but every episode they're put into a situation which makes you think. It makes you think about say unfettered capitalism, greed, ethical and moral issues, issues of gender and race discrimination, etc. But that's up to you to think about, the story doesn't force it, it works just fine even if you don't take that away from it. Picard is just in your face just like STD. It's bad writing; it makes for bad TV.
Also, the show is called Star Trek: Picard, yet they haven't done shit with his character.

So Alex-fucking-Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman want me to believe the Romulans invented them? If the Borg already knew about the Alpha Quadrant what was keeping them from showing up earlier? This bullshit hack writing is ruining what used to be great television. Serialization is the death of this franchise. The beautiful thing about old Trek was that if an episode sucked here and there you could always look forward to the next one since they were all self contained stories in a bottle. Bottle Episodes fit Star Trek, yes we love connective tissue and things to keep us tuning in but designing a show around an entire premise that turns off a majority of the viewer-base which both fans and nonfans vehemently dislike, then something is very wrong.
The people involved in this don't care and they will keep doing this. "I got this great script for 24" - "That's waaaaay too much like 24 we need something more like Mr.Magoo" the logic of these studio heads is fucking laughable and Alex Kurtzman can rot in fucking hell for doing this. 3:31 In the range of the super nova? It would take several light years for a super nova to reach the next star. After 20 years only a handful of stars should even be affected. The other stars and their planets wouldn't get destroyed because of a super nova several light years away but the gamma radiation would have an extremely negative impact on the atmosphere of planets and nearly every form of life it hits. But with future technology there should be no problem at all because they have shields to protect them. And they also have several years to prepare.
How is it even possible for the Romulan star to go super nova without showing any signs before that? They should have had thousands of years to prepare. Even today we can predict pretty well when stars go super nova (I look at you Betelgeuse). The star being a red giant is a pretty good hint that there isn't that much time left.
We have seen stars suddenly go supernova in ST before (usually because of some sort of villainry), so it is internally consistent with the ST universe. What's not consistent is why no one thinks it's weird for a star to suddenly explode...
