Marvel has been going absolutely bananas this year with their slate of Phase Four content being released on Disney+. It seems like every single week in 2022 there has been a new episode of some kind of Marvle property. The latest one to hit the tiny screen is She-Hulk starring Tatiana Maslany.
She-Hulk definitely raises some questions. Like what is this show trying to be? Why is Jennifer so amazing at being a Hulk right away? Does that fourth-wall breaking stuff feel kinda weird to anyone else in the grand scheme of the MCU? Can She-Hulk solve all problems moving forward by complaining to Marvel?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law!

SUPER EASY, BARLEY AN INCONVENIENCE
Oh wow wow wow… wow
So anyway, what do you think?
Oh really
I am gonna need you to get all the way off my back about what you think the comment section should say...
Not gonna lie, barley IS quite an inconvenience.
"She's better at controlling her anger because she's been catcalled." She says angrily, screaming at him, being extremely mad and angry.
I see someone got themselves fast tracked on the list.
Umm yeah, dipshit. So?
Lol. I mean the problem is that she has nothing to over come. What is there to watch when theres no character growth? When she doesn't have to overcome anything? In trying to be overly feminist I think they did the character a real disservice. I say that as a female btw. Whose had unsolicited advances by men many times.
@@e.sterling141 You heard Producer Guy. You can't sat thar. Now you're on a list. LOL.
I think you're missing the point here. And I think she even lost her cool because he was her cousin. You can be yourself around your family especially the ones you've grown up with. And Hulk was being kinda of an overbearing parent so yeah no adult will like that.
Plus the thing with Hulk is he had to deal with all those things after he became Hulk not before it. Before it he was a normal male according to the movies.
So there's a difference.
You masterfully dealt with the whole "Bruce Banner has never dealt with trauma and pain before" thing.
Although he did, a couple sentences later act like he forgot the Abomination from the first movie. So I'm not sure if he thinks we were supposed to remember the background from Hulk or not remember.
@@davidsamollow It was more so that the character left little impact and was from so long ago and risks not feeling like a big deal in the show as a result, hence the joke.
@@tuvyamaeir4684 Yes I know, but then so is any of the past trauma mentioned in the original film.
Being Bruce Banner is suffering.
And that’s without even mentioning the abusive father and mental disorders
She hulk writers making the line "you dont have to deal with what i do" as they forget that the line "i tried to kill myself a lot, but every time i put the gun in my mouth, the other guy spits it out"

"Oh no but see guys who face horrible shit and contemplate or attempt suicide are so much more weak than women who do dontcha know"
Legit heard teachers at my uni claim that years ago
@@heartysquid I feel like the point is that He has gone through real stuff and she hasn't. She is not Black Widow, Wanda, and ect who has gone through things like Bruce. She basically had an easy life compared to them. I am only going by the what they presented before me. Her life was good. One more person I want to mention is the real SheHulk from the comics. "Verbally abusing your own family that is just trying to help you in your time of need while also lowering their hardships is tight" - said the writers of this show
Yeah, but then, the alarm clock does back flips, and breaks your sleeping schedules neck
Yeah yeah yeah
And pretty much every family at some point in time ever.
Seriously, that was one of the most realistic parts of the show. Family members tend to twist the knife the most.
I can't imagine saying my life is harder to a family member that attempted suicide, lost the love of their life and fought a god.
@@MJ-jd7rs ...you missed the entire point...
You cant just say ¨I had a worst life than you¨ to a family member that attempted suicide, lost thier GF and people wanted to kill him, while you just got catcalled on streets
Never has the phrase "super easy, barely an inconvenience" more perfectly described how a character solved their problems.
The GoT Season 8 I think is still the best use of that phrase.
(Was also the first time I heard it there)
Good to see you in the wild! Love your stuff.
Is that the horse from horsein’ around!!!
The characters lol more like the writers lmao
Jen in she hulk is a Mary Sue in her natural habitat. She could've had some actual character growth in the finale but she went all Karen over Kevin.
There's two very distinct reasons why I like the fourth wall breaks from Deadpool movies and not She-Hulk. Her fourth wall breaks happen rarely and only when they're convenient for her, and thus let her completely break/solve the plot. Meanwhile Deadpool's fourth wall breaks happen frequently and consistently, plus they aren't used by the writers to magically solve problems when they write themselves into a corner and either can't write themselves out of it or simply don't feel like doing so. There's also very real possibility that Deadpool might just be crazy and his fourth wall breaks are just him genuinely hallucinating that he's in a movie or comic and isn't actually properly aware of the fourth wall between us and him, but just thinks that he is.
The way she-hulk does it in the show is actually pretty true to the comics. 4th wall breaking was kind of her super power to deal with problems. Or at least in the comics I came across.
Deadpool more easily gets away with because Deadpool is a character in a comedy. A comedy doesn't need to consistently maintain rules or worry about breaking the audience's immersion and belief in the fictional world. But She Hulk is too serious and needs the audience to believe in the reality of the fictional world.
@@FastForwardPlans "true to the comics" does not equal "good writing". I don't know why people appeal to the comics as if that makes bad writing good.
@@SeraphsWitness never said it was good writing. Only it was true to the comics.

When the comedians are making better more coherent content then the system is broken. They didn't hire writers, they hired activists.

Yes, but I'm positive that the MCU has jumped the shark. This was a legitimate break where none of the stakes matter for the entire franchise. Which means the continuity/character development doesn't matter either.
Remember how in each iteration of Iron Man we would see him make improvements and fix previous flaws. Or the relationships and dynamics between characters would change as well. Bye Bye.
The space thing with Captain Marvel and Guardians really opened things up. The time stone muddied the waters, with the Quantum Leaping. And the Multiverse breaking from Loki really brought the stakes down. But this was the final straw.
I couldn't even enjoy Dr Strange 2, despite it having the Illuminati, it's just too watered down. The old MCU would have paced such a thing much better.
I'm sure there's fans out there who have written scripts/fanfic that is much better than what we got. Just like it happened in Game of Thrones with the Seasons 6, 7, and 8. Remember those guys get paid handsomely to destroy the series.
@@ekinteko I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought dr strange 2 was rubbish, I watched the first 15 minutes only to turn it off, boring

@@apex9177 GoT Season 1 was slow and introduced lots of characters. Still liked it. Seasons 2-4 were fire, they were closely based on the books. Cracks started to open up on Season 5 but overall was great, and was downhill after that.
It felt like it got progressively worse each season. To me the sheer stupidity in Season 8 was basically unwatchable. What made GoT great was the script and dialogues, it was never about the graphics. Later seasons focused just on the graphics, with weak dialogues, and illogical scripts. They lost the magic.
I think Dr Strange 2 had all the elements there to make a brilliant film, but the final result was not cooked right. It had the return of Black Bolt and showing off his powers, Captain Carter, John Krasinski made his MCU debut, and finally we got to see Prof X.
But yeah, the cracks in the MCU began showing with Endgame but RDJ basically saved the movie. There's just too much focus on the wrong things; graphics, marketing, product placement, etc etc.
Instead of things that matter like immersion, story, characters, dialogues etc etc. That's why movies like The Shawshank Redemption will be a timeless classic, whilst others will be forgotten quick after the hype has left, like The Eternals.

Jen: "I have to control my anger infinitely more than you"
Bruce, who spent the past 15 years struggling to control his emotions or else everyone around him would be in extreme mortal danger: "ok then"
Men, who need everything spelled out to them like a child: AHH SHE SAID THE WORDS THAT MEAN BETTER THAN!!!! GAAAH SHE NOT ACTING LIKE NICE PLEASING FEMALE!!!!!!!!! AND SHE NO SEXY ALL TIME!!! SHE BAD CHARACTER!!!
Translator for men: What the scene, to women without internalize misogyny, (OMG I know I just said the M word so now I've lost ya but I'm trying to get through to ration with you) was:
Bruce: *trying to make Jen do the things he was doing by comparing her to him, when she's very different from him*
Jen: "I'm not you. I have better control, we can see that."
Bruce: *not getting that and proceeds to try and provoke her at every turn*
Jen: LOOK MAN I CAN CONTROL THIS SHIT.
Let's add more context to this: Jen was, in order: Car crash, life altering event that basically deforms and permanently changes her, caused by her cousin (like, yeah he didn't mean it, but like, it's still his fault) then, found herself in the woods, had to drag herself to a bar, was fixed up but then almost fucking raped (because you can't tell me they woulda walked off if nothing stopped them) looses control once because it's the first time she's turned in anger, wakes up to her cousin who proceeds to hook her up to machine without telling her what it does and scares the shit out of her again, then tries to jump her and keep her on edge for the rest of the day.
And you're surprised she's acting bitchy to him? I know you're used to all your (and most men) female characters being either nice, sexy mean, or motherly kind, but damn.
Was this scripted well? No. Most MCU things are *horribly* scripted (Iron man 2, Iron man 3, Guardians 2, Thor 2, etc). Was it as bad as men make it seem, or anything like how men make it seem? Also no. But like a christian nationalist, once you say one word, you instantly lose them. It's like it turns of their reason and logic. Especially when you're presenting reality from their misguided viewpoint.
@@sageseeker9197 ok boomer
@@sageseeker9197 ma'am, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were one of the incompetent feminists that wrote this piece if shit
@@sageseeker9197 All that explanation and excuse for a poorly written character moment.
Good job projecting your insecurities onto the evil "men" who all have just so much issue with this moment solely because they are men, when in reality, it was just poorly done - like the entirety of the show. Just because you fell for the writers' intentional baiting of trolls (which was calculated and preemptively used as a means of deflecting true criticism of their horrible writing), doesn't mean that it's the truth.
The truth is more brutal than your imagined sexism reasons: that the writers are horrifically amateur, that they are hacks, that they knew their show was shit before finishing it, and knew they could take advantage of being shit by playing the misogyny card, and knew they could convince just enough people like you to accept their shit writing as decent and turn you against an imagined enemy.
@@sageseeker9197 You're right and everyone else is wrong because you're always right, no matter what. It honestly doesn't matter what anyone else says because they're mansplaining, have internalized misogyny, are sexist, or something else that can be dismissed completely. You did it. You have defeated any and all criticism and detractors, now and indefinitely. Congratulations, you have won.
ur getting funnier and funnier...keep up the good work!
I keep waiting for ur phase Barley inconvenient and say it out alone with you.
How is Ryan better at acting than the She Hulk actors.
Disney hires based on nepotism and paying people as little as humanly possible. Half are probably unpaid interns.
But the same applies to writers and casting directors.
I mean I genuinely don't know if you could even act good with a script this bad 😂
Because they aren't actors and don't care about quality, and even the good actors couldn't make that sorry excuse for a script work
“You’re on the list now and can’t have any more opinions” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH the accuracy on that line killed me 😂😂😂😂
How twitter block list works
"Heyshutup" is what the execs should've said at the real pitch meeting at the first mention of She-Hulk.
"so does just pointing out that the writing wasn't very good make it better in some way?"
"god I hope so!"
lmfao I love this man.
Possibly my favourite pitch meeting. The meta scene was perfect. Good job screenwriter guy, studio executive guy and meta editor guy
You forgot comment guy. 😋
Meta editing is tight!
and barley
Wow, way to neglect the meta editor guy who edited in the footage of other meta editor guy
Um actually, he was admittedly not an editor and was just pretending to be an editor. Editor guy is yet to be seen 😋
That fourth wall break just made me scream in terror. Thanks, Ryan.
Same! That jumpscared me
@griffy ye I've been waiting so long for these god forsaken spam bots to get removed from this website. Who actually clicks on these?
George or Renolds?
"A fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break? That's like, 16 walls." -Deadpool
Well researched, informative and very entertaining. You my friend have an X factor
This is the only one that doesn't feel like a joke... Like it's too on the nose of exactly everything... Amazing
This pitch meeting was SO good on so many levels; and addressed the ups downs and nuances of the show (and its reception or lack thereof) with levity and poise... BARLEY an inconvenience, indeed.
Barly 😂😂😂
what ups?
There was "ups" in this show?
@@bmack1708 for myself, yes, I find 4th wall breaking and sassy characters and absurd super hero commentary entertaining, who knew, certainly not someone who watches “pitch meeting” amirite? /s
Wheat a minute, I think I'm oat an explanation.
This pitch meeting is more serious than the actual meeting of the crew
More serious 😂
Omg you are beyond creative. The last 3 minutes had me rolling.
SheHulk producer: “Unexpected blood combos are tight!”
Secret Invasion writer: “Hold my beer.”
I said “Super easy-“ at work today and before I could finish, my coworker said “Barely an inconvenience” and I just stared at her and started laughing. 😂
Gnostic meme knowledge is tight.
Making friends through shared interests is TIGHT!
And then what happened
I introduced my brother-in-law to Pitch Meetings last year and now my niece is giving him the "super easy!"
Put a ring on it
This might be some of Ryan’s finest work.
“SUPER EASY, BARLEY AN INCONVENIENCE”
Oh misspelling catchphrases is tite!
This has to be one of the best pitch meetings done to date.
Along side Pinocchio.
I wouldn't want to date it.
Honestly it's up there
tbh, Shulk is an easy target
@@Shigeru0508 more like it's easy to pander to the angry masses.
Going double meta with the editor admitting he wasn't even editing was genius. That's how you go meta!
This is the first time I've seen him take on a show i actually liked. Good stuff!
Oh man, the meta humor where he talks to the editing version of himself in this one is....fucking hilarious. 😂
Ryan makes walking the tightrope that is the She-Hulk controversy look super easy, barely an inconvenience
Lol nah, he hit the nail on the head. Everyone that said something critical about this show he expressed. Hopefully people don't call him a racists or something because of it.
What controversy. Is a fact that the show was trash.
*barley an inconvenience. Get it wrong, bro.

Holy shit! I’ve binge watched a bunch of these Pitch Meetings and this is a straight up masterpiece.
