    After Avengers Endgame, Marvel has the massive task of not only continuing their surviving heroes' stories, but also making audiences care about all new characters and all-new universe-threatening events. Their latest movie Eternals takes on the gargantuan challenge of introducing ten new superheroes AND explaining why they’re only showing up now. This thing’s getting complicated.
    Eternals definitely raises some questions. Like should this have been a Disney Plus show? Why do the Eternals only have important conversations at Golden Hour? Why is introducing humans to weapons not considered interfering in their affairs? Wouldn’t the Celestials be interested in stopping Thanos if they need a massive population to birth celestials? Why didn’t Kumail have a shirtless scene after all that work!? What have these post-credit scenes become?!
    To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Eternals! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

      @@dakat5131 Exactly. I know after the pitch meeting, it sounds repetitive, but this would fit better as a Disney+ show. Could have 12 episodes, introducing each one of the Eternals. Their past, their beliefs, moral codes, the way they interact with one another, etc, and on the ending have them coming together against a bigger threat. This feels like that Netflix doc about Michael Schumacher. It could've benefitted more from another type of midia. Although Schumacher had much more love and care than Eternals, as I said to my friend, it's like Disney kidnapped Chloe Zhao's family in order for her to direct the movie lol

    A group of superheroes has more or less split up after working with each other for years due to their personality flaws and conflicts. They are forced to bring the band back together when it's revealed there's a threat wanting to kill them all one by one. The film's runtime is split between showing them reuniting and flashbacks to their past which reveal why some of them are in disagreement with each other. After successfully reuniting, the group is permanently sundered once again when it's revealed that one of their own members is responsible for the mess they're in which has led to some of their deaths and is part of a plan that will kill millions (or billions) of human lives for the "greater good".

      Eh, it could have worked if done right. You could do the fantastic four versus the Wizard and his crew, intro doctor doom and then drop a professor Xavier cameo at the end (or whomever). 10 main characters, one movie, introduced.
      But this was kinda doomed from the get go, the eternal were never that popular, same with Shang-chi.

    • @RicardoPetinga
      @RicardoPetinga Před 2 lety +7

      @@CannabisDreams I'm not sure marketing is your vocation. Nothing against that, marketing shouldn't even exist. But still. Here are the main problems with your argument:
      1) Comic book popularity does not necessarily translate into cinematic popularity. Case in point: Guardians of the Galaxy. Massively popular movies of a team that few people cared that much for. Also, Shang-Chi.
      2) Shang-Chi has a 92% critics score and 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (not so good on IMDB though), and made more than 400 million USD during a pandemic. I don't particularly care about those things nor do I use them to judge a movie, but I'm just bringing them up to ask you wtf are you on about?
      3) Cult followings are, by definition, niche followings, and therefore do not, by themselves, make movies "work", especially in what concerns financial and critical success. By all accounts, the Ghost Rider movies were both pretty bad and flopped, and the "cult" status of the character barely helped.
      4) To Marvel's standards, The Eternals might not be as successful, but literally the only movies to have topped it this year are other Marvel movies, plus Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which although a Sony movie, still loosely connects to the MCU, and is still a Marvel (or Disney) property with Marvel characters.
      5) Despite the obvious fact that there would've been more time to develop all 10 characters in a series, the script did great in juggling them all without making any of them appear one-dimensional (a bit of an accidental pun here) with its natural time constraints. Snyder did much worse in his 4 hour cut of JL, for example. Sure, that's subjective, but I stand by it.

    I thought they explained that they built tech for humans, so humans could protect themselves from deviants, but the humans consistently used it against eachother, and after the last deviant fell, the team broke up into seclusion, faithless. They didn't know about Thanos in Infinity War, and probably didn't know about the fight against him in Endgame. It's not like the Avengers put up billboards saying "We're gonna time travel for 6 minutes, then Thanos will come back."
    Furthermore, Dr. Strange gave everyone he knew a free ticket to the fight. I don't know if he knew about super powered Earth androids made by God.
    The movie probably could have done a lot more with the characters, and especially the smart deviant, if it was a Disney+ show. However, with the time it had, I feel we got to know the personality and history of each character very well. I enjoyed the movie, and it was refreshing to watch.
    I'd give it an 8/10. It's a good film that I'd suggest slight edits for.
