- House Velaryon ready to support Queen Rhaenyra's | House of the Dragon
Rhaenyra planning strategy with Lord Corlys the SeaSnake & Princess Rhaenys. She dispatched her two sons, Jacaerys (Jace) to the North (Eyrie and Winterfell) and Lucerys (Luke) to the South (Storm's End).
Rhaenys riding Meleys The Red Queen spoiled Aegon's Coronation and flew Dragonstone to warn Queen Rhaenyra of the situation.
While mourning a tragic loss, Rhaenyra tries to hold the realm together, and Daemon prepares for war.
Meleys The Red Queen spared the lives of King Aegon II & his whole family in House of the Dragon
Princess Rhaenys while imprisoned by Queen Alicent Hightower, escaped and approached with her dragon Meleys. She could have roasted the entire family of Otto Hightower, Aemond Targaryen, Helena Targaryen, but she spared their lives by a gesture of mercy and a warning.
Meleys, nicknamed the Red Queen, is a she-dragon ridden by Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Covered in scarlet scales, she has accents of bright copper. It is her unique coloring for which she received her nickname. In her youth, she is said to have outpaced even Caraxes and Vhagar.

I love how Corlys shifted his gaze to Rhaenys after Rhaenyra said “you honored me”, as if saying it’s not really me who you should be grateful to
glad someelse noticef
nah, it's more about, "you're right", after getting the support of the most powerful house, she's still not eager to wage war, as Rhaenys told Corlys earlier, but try to resolve the matter without spilling blood, if you get the houses Velaryon, Baratheon, Stark and the Vale on your side, no other houses would be foolish enough to join the other side.
Talk about noticing. I've seen this scene many times and just now caught how Corlys calls Rhaneyra princess (not queen/your grace) when he first arrives and then calls her "your grace" after he declares for her. It’s definitely Rhaenyras biggest mistake by separating her adult dragons, Caraxes, Melys, Syrax, and Vermithor rather than using all of them to take down the Greens’ most dangerous weapon, Vaghar
Rhaenys having convinced Corlys and then saying that she would go to patrol the maw was an act of immense courage, not least because she and meleys would be facing all the existing danger, all the enemy dragons, being so close to kings landing. A formidable warrior.

@@matthewriley7826 in the books its clear to see that her being a "terrible queen" was mostly due to
1) killing haelena

It's not a football match to have your favourite team though...
I love the subtle details of this scene. Everything down to specifically regarding Luke, Jace, Baela, and Rhaena. The way Luke slightly smiles when he sees Rhaena enter the room. It's sad really, first her dragon passed down by her mother and now her own betrothed is gone because of Aemond, from her point of view understandably. The way everyone straightens themselves when the Velaryon's collectively enter a room. The way Baela smiles when Jace suggests sending them on dragon-back to be more convincing/intimidating. Luke appeared timid immediately when his mother said he would ride to see Boros Baratheon, but Jace knew his brother was fully capable of managing on his own, once again sad, but very endearing knowing Jace and Luke's brotherhood together in their short time. I wonder if in Season 2 we'll get to hear more details about what happened at the Stepstones with Corlys Velaryon. Jace's reaction to hearing his brother had passed as well as Baela and Rhaena's reactions.
Atleast she gets to have the last living dragon

@@Monkonmunky Rhaenyra's no winner. History hates her. She's NOT her son. Her son is his own person, not an extenstion to pretend Rhaenyra won. And that just because some craven poisoned Aegon anyway. Rhaenyra's son lived because Aegon allowed it, and was fine keeping him in the line of succession.

@@gooby214 Rhaenyra's the winner because her bloodline endured.
I may be missing something here, but couldn't Rhaenyra have sent Rhaenys to Storm's End instead of Luke? Since she's Borros Baratheon's cousin, wouldn't that make it more likely for him to side with the blacks? Plus, she's a more experienced dragonrider and would have been able to deal with Storm's End weather better than Luke and has more experience with diplomacy
According the GRRM, it had to be one of Rhaenyra sons because it was her claim to the iron throne that was challenged. Plus, Boremund father was a good and honorable man, he treated Rhaenya always treated Rhaenyra with dignity and respect. Rhaenyra probably thought Lucerys would’ve been treated the same way at storms end as she was during her younger years.
well, considering that the baratheon line is a targaryen line without the targaryen name, rhaenyra thought that their kinship would have been honored. rhaenys having lucerys as her grandson meant that such an honor extended to lucerys because lucerys has her blood one way or another. as borros and rhaenys are third cousins and their kids are fourth cousins. so lucerys is very close kin and they thought this would be easier. rhaenys has one of the fastest dragons and capable of much easier fast strikes. as well as the fact that shes's much more senior in terms of diplomacy, politiking and etc compared to her grandsons. so she was delegated tougher tasks including helping with the gullet. in the books though rhaenys was at home advising rhaenyra in political matters and were her main council around this time, so rhaenyra really could not spare them. dragonstone needed as many riders as they could as well.
They also didn’t have enough dragons to just send one of their biggest ones away at the time, Meleys was defending the fleet, caraxes was at harrenhall, so they had to send the smaller dragons because Meleys was just too important
@@theiaoftheheavensrhaenys and borros are not third cousins they are first . IN THE BOOKS RHAENYS MOTHER JOCELIN BARAETHON WAS SISTER OF BORROS FATHER
@@renis8760 Which is funny, because in the books Borros says that, and I quote: 'some great-aunt I never knew married [Rhaenys'] father', which is pure bs. Borros' father was Boremund Baratheon; Jocelyn Baratheon was Rhaenys' mother. Jocelyn was Boremund's little sister, meaning that Jocelyn was Borros' aunt, not his great-aunt. Either Borros Baratheon was a gigantic idiot (the man couldn't read, after all), or the guy was simply lying to distance himself from Rhaenys and the Velaryons.

Aeomond doesn’t care for EITHER of their lives, you’re not making any sense and you’re making up false information about the characters from not understanding the very obvious characters dynamics between them.
What you “bEliEvE” and “think” doesn’t make any sense as you’re naming up nonsense in the story about the characters as you fail to realize that Jace would have been more likely to run up to personally fight against Aeomond’s taunts and gotten killed in the process him Aeomond personally or his dragon JUST like in the dinner scene.
Either way, they were doomed for war REGARDLESS of who they sent as Aeomond and Vhagar WOULD have came RIGHT after Jace if he came even MORE SO seeing how easily Jace gets provoked and he would gotten killed quicker than luke did.
It was doomed to war EITHER was as Aemond, Luke, and Jace ALL hate each other but they don’t want to be causing wars at all; but it happened due to outside interference from the dragons regardless. This should be obvious here, come on, I should have to state this at all!

Rhaenyra would’ve sent Luke to Storm’s end either way, since he’s the youngest who’s she’s sending away and it’s a short flight.
And also is the moment where Jace puts himself in the position that will give the victory to the Blacks: the aliance with the Vale and the North. He doesn't live long enough to see this, neather Rhaenyra or Daemon, but young Aegon, his brother, will ascend the Iron Throne.
@@lucasbarrocolima why would u say that
Corlys is an awesome character, and I’ve never seen the actor that plays him before but he’s fuckin great
I do find it surprising that they don't mention House Tyrell considering that they are both Lord Paramount of the Reach and House Hightower's overlords. Even with their lord being but a babe whose mother rules as regent, House Tyrell surely have enough support and power in the Reach to make the Hightowers back off.
House Tyrell are the overlords yes but their grip over the reach is fragile at this time period, they were mere Stewart to the gardners and were made lords by Aegon during the conquest the was only a century ago so the memories are still fresh. House Hightower was powerful enough to rival the gardners and the Tyrell simply don't have the strength to go against them, it is not said but obvious to people in westeros the the hightowers are the true power in the reach not the Tyrells at this time period, plus they now have dragons through the greens so technically they are the top 3 most powerful house in westeros.
@@adityasrivastava9394 True, but House Tyrell still possess a lot of money, food and manpower on their own even without their vassals. Plus, more Reach houses supported the Blacks than the Greens.
What makes you think the Tyrells will ally with the Targaryen-Velaryon force at this point? Even though House Hightower can be considered their rival to power, they have much closer ties with them than the Targaryens and Velaryons. Opposing the Hightowers would prove disadvatageous to The Reach as it will divide it. They would never consider that eventuality.
@@jennocontreras623 House Tyrell historically declared themselves neutral in the Dance. I'm just curious as to why the Black Council doesn't even mention them here.
I think it was assumed the Tyrells would back the Hightowers. The Tyrells are mentioned in the Green Council. House Hightower and House Tyrell have long been close and possibly already married (Margaery's mother was a hightower)
I never understood the Velaryon siding with Rhaenyra after Laena and Laenor. 😅😅
Don't worry. It'll be fixed. It won't be the last time Rhaenyra treats the Velaryon like garbage. Even their patience will run out.
Laena's death a tragic case of misfortune. Women die in childbirth sometimes but it's not anyone's fault. As for Laenor, they don't have proof that they were involved with his 'murder'. Even if Corlys and Rhaenys don't like Rhaenerya and Daemon, they still have grandchildren from them. Well, two legit ones anyway. If the girls want to support their paternal family, then Corlys and Rhaenys have no choice but to go along with it.
@@gooby214 Right! I am team Black, but I hope Corlys really lights into Rhaenyra's ass after Rook's Rest, especially when it looks like Baela is there as well.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl They certainly have a choice. Rhaenys had no intention of staying on Dragonstone, she was going to take the girls and leave. Baela stopped her.
Man I don't care what people say - the dude has a mop for a head.
jace and luke look like hobbits
Its kinda unfair to the book readers, they already knew what will happen :'(
Rhaenys should’ve went with Luke to storms end. Borros would’ve had no choice but to honor his fathers oath
Rhaenyra was known as a young Targaryen who wanted to serve the kingdom by riding her Dragon but was forbidden by Viserys at that time. When Jace offered himself to carry a message using a dragon to convince the high lords who received the letter, Rhaenyra realized that this was what dragon riders needed from a young age.
What episode is this on HOD?
Can’t wait till season 2 when they decide to find another “ally”, House Greyjoy and the Red Kraken….
They won't declare for rhanyra until s3. And they did it just to humiliate and loot from rich lands of lannisters. Red kraken Will rebel against her son in future
@@Vintagefolklore also his neck was slashed by his own wife before alyn velaryon ( you will see him in s2) could reach to fight him.
Typical greyjoy shit!
Fight, rebel and die.
Feel bad for the Velaryons, yes they were too ambitious and powerhungry but Rhaenyra literally destroyed their lives yet they have no other choice but to suport her for the sake of their grandchildren.
Velaryons at least keep existing as a Westerosi house, and fighting for Stannis. Targaryens are gone and exiled.
@@gooby214 they are very weakened and diminished. Corlys was responsible for both the rise and fall of the Velaryons as one of the most powerfull houses in Westeros.
@@masterplokoon8803 Maybe Aurane Waters will change that...or Faegon, or someone...one day. Who knows. What matters at this point is survival, not power...with winter, the Others, Euron's lovecraftian stuff, Dany's dragons...at least Velaryons keep their seat, unlike Targaryens, even while supporting Stannis. Perhaps one day...or not.
The actor, - Steve Toussaint, has a very early role in the 90s British cult classic movie, ID (police go undercover as football hooligans). He is the one that asks Trevor in the first pub about Josh Carrera. Looks like the Lord of Tides was a Shadwell fan
She Said It Will NOT Be By Her Hand ! Remember That Folks She Never Wanted A War But Fought It Only When Her Hand Was Forced
I am rooting Rhaenyra. But I'm also sad because I read the book. As Ramsay Bolton once said, "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."
Great scene
I watched this episode 1000 times, but just now noticed Daemon’s absence in this scene, what was he doing during this council? And why wasn’t he there? Considering he and Corlys have been close allies in the years before
Rhaneyra told Corlys that Daemon had other matters to attend to when Corys asked where's Damon. He was looking for that riderless dragon in that dark tunnel.
Can't wait for season 2...
Corlys, Daemon and Cregan basically win the Dance of the Dragons
They really should've know the Greens were gonna sent out riders too and that Aemond/Vhagar would be in the skies
Such fake dreads... but I Love them! White dreads are literally the coolest Dreads! Especially ol Gray Rastas!!
Course Corlys' betrays Rhaenyra when it becomes convienent for him.
Boo hoo, keep blindly excusing that piece of garbage Rhaenyra. The ungrateful animal literally treats him like crap, accuses him of things he didn't do, and has him locked in a cell and horribly treated. Corlys should've sided with the greens since the beginning.
When? What does he owe Rhaenyra? Absolutely nothing, however, she owes him a lot. He's allowing her children to use HIS name, knowing those boys are bastards. He still stands by her after believing they killed Laenor and Vaemond is killed for speaking the truth. I don't have a damn if he called Rhaenyra a whore, he told no lies. Rhaena and Baela being betrothed to her sons is a hail mary pass because she needed them, not the other way around.
Corlys betrays Rhaenyra after she orders Addam to be arrested and more than likely killed. Coryls himself is arrested for sending word to Addam. Why should he remain loyal? She didn't. Corlys and House Velaryon has faced nothing but disrespect from these people. Honestly? Corlys should have told all of them to kiss his ass after Laenor died.
Anyone that takes garrison here never wins there war from this point on
Waiting for the moment prince reaches winterfell
Corly's support to Rhaenyra doesnt make sense. Had the Black won and Jacaerys Velaryon ascended the Iron Throne, he wouldve changed his name to Jacaerys Targaryen according to the condition of Rhaenyra's marriage to Laenor Valaryon. In that case, neither Corly's name nor his blood would be on the Iron Throne since he clearly knows that these arent his biological grandsons.
But jace is betrothed to baela their children will have Velaryon blood
Funny how he strolls up and asks who here alleys are and she just openly tells him without knowing who’s side he’s on yet
Because he wouldn’t be there for no reason. Rhaenyra and Daemon were both expecting him to
@@adrianneagoe3652 and if he was just a spy? You shouldn’t give information without knowing who’s side they are on
I like the parallel to Rhaenyra asking to send dragons into the stepstones in ep 2. Back then, her father refused her.
Now her own son asks for the same thing. She certainly can’t refuse this time.
So the people who supported Rhaenyra are also the people weonged by Otto Hightower. Corlys was failed because King married Otto's daughter not his. Daemon chose Rhaenyra against Otto for obvious reasons. And others are either just guards and small houses who are not significant.
In short, Rhaenyra's position got so weak over the years. She should have just got Greens murdered in a sitting like Tywin did at Red Wedding and should rule in peace. This way, dragons would have remained secure and House Targeryean would have survived even after the Mad King and actually would have taken part in The Long Night as grand rulers, not just allies. The opposition Daenerys faced would never have existed. So we should all know that HOTD events decided whatever happened to houses in GOT
Pfft, please. So much delusions, copium, and fantasies. EVERYTHING could've happened if Rhaenyra won. EVERYTHING bad. Easy to think everything would've been just fine if the blacks killed everyone. Not that simple, and not without repercussions. Also, things CAN change and other wars can happen before GOT. Stop acting as if no other conflict, crisis, and potential fall of the Targaryens would've happened if Rhaenyra won. No one knows what could've happened, and the idea of the Targaryens being perfectly successful for centuries, if Rhae lived, is ridiculous. Also with the Blackfyre rebellions and other crisis.
Corlys is the one who ends up ruling the 7 Kingdoms as the most powerful Regent. Sadly at great cost
I can’t with Jace’s hairstyle - the actor actually has dark curly hair (which would be fitting for his resemblance to Harwin) but why did they give him Troy Bolton hairrrrr
Yeah, Jacaerys' actor kinda looks like a mini Harwin with his real life haircut. I still don't know why they gave him that cut/wig.
Well would you look at that, the last Velaryon.
oh man i can't wait to see Winterfell again!
Mentioning House Stark.....I think we will see them in Season 2 (finally)
We see Rickon Stark in season 1.
For all of 4 seconds but still.
@@Extract99 I'm sorry I meant as featured characters.
@@maestroclassico5801 Yeah, I get it. Shame we didn't see Cregan Stark. During the events of the later half of season 1, he has a pretty cool story where he has to take back Winterfell from his uncle.
She should’ve let Luke fly North and let one of the twins or Jace to fly to Storms End
Rhaeneyra expected him to have a warm welcome from Lord Borros, who she thought would be proud to host a royal prince in his halls. Plus it was a shorter round trip. Jace's mission to the North and the Vale was considered a more difficult one though.
Arrax was a young and small dragon, it would've been very tiring going all the way to the Vale and the North. The trip to the Stormlands was short. And Jace's dragon Vermax was a lot bigger and could make the trip north smoother and safer. As Prince of Dragonstone he was expected to take a lot more responsibilities. Rhaenyra was very lucky Jace was her heir, he was more diplomatically inclined.
But in the end her second born was murdered by her half brother and his dragon
No, Rhaenys should've flown to Storm's End. The Baratheon line is through her, because unlike Rhaenyra's sons, she's actually related to them by blood.
Rhaena doesn't have a dragon and Baela's is still too small to fly at this point.
If i was Rheanarya i would've done one thing different. I would've sent Rheanys with Luke to Storm's End as well as Rheana after having her bond with either Vermithor or Silverwing, Rheana wouldn't be there to add anything diplomaticly like Rheanys would but having two more dragons would be a good deterrent against Vhagar
She didn't know that the Trip to Storm's End have f*cking Vhagar 😅😅😅Literally sending Luke there cause Storm's End nearrrr Dragon Stone
@historicalfigurestoday don't let the DUP suppress @USAMarine #Coleraine ❤
I’m honestly just waiting for my man Lord Stark to set this shit straight
Rhaenys had all chance to rain fire on them but refused to harm the people of the realm. Ironic that even after Rhaenyrs being eaten by her brothers dragon it was her and Daemons son who became the next King.
She killed hundreds of peasants just to show off her power, what do you mean "spare the people"?
Rhaenyra”You have dragon riders, father…Send us”
Jace “Dragons are faster than ravens. And more convincing. Send us”
The Dance of the Dragons was gonna happen anyway because
King Jaehaerys Targaryen the old king knew this would happen 30 years later before his death what’s done cannot be undone. You can’t change the past but you can learn from it.
Corlys was only concerned with keeping power INSIDE the targaryan lineage. At the very least from a legitimate standpoint Bastards or not her child with Daemon was pure valyrian and her kids with Strong were also dragon riders meaning the blood of the dragon flowed through them that they could pass on.
Also even if they are bastards, the Strongs would have no claim legitimately as Laenor was their "legitimate" father on paper.
So with Rhenyra at the throne the targarean line would be secure and Corlys marry his daughters off to her sons and secure the dynasty.
This was never about loyalty as Viserys jilted his daughter for marriage. Refused to send a fleet to kill the crabfeeder and most importantly he lost his son and brother to Viserys's side.
her second parents 🤕
“And the cost of breaking them is that daemon will come after them after the war “😂simple u get the support from whoever u want 😂🤷♂️
I know this is nitpicky but Rhaenys should have black hair
They assumed that the casual viewers would be too stupid to understand that not all Targaryens have silver hair (even though they know about Jon Snow).
