When his army movements were "accidentally" sent to the wrong lord, one loyal to the Starks, and he has Arya Stark handling letters and sitting in on strategy meetings, he would probably figure out what happened. Is this system a good one? Not really. But it’s the system that they live in and they have to live by it’s rules. And with these rules come privileges and responsibility. I don’t think you’re going to get much sympathy from me for Cersei, who probably lives in more luxury than 99.999% of the planet at that time, when all she had to do was keep her skirt down, or at the very least take steps to ensure she wouldn’t get pregnant.

      Except what Tyrion wanted wasn't applause. He wanted *recognition and a genuine place at his father's side.* Tyrion is the main reason the capital didn't fall to Stannis. He ensured it held out under siege, crippled the enemy forces with the Wyldfire attack, and then led a sally that held the enemy army at bay, preventing them from entering the city and killing Joffrey ahead of Tywin's relief force. All while keeping the worst excesses of his psychotic nephew in check. Tyrion did exactly what Tywin sent him to do. Cersei - Utterly ruthless and puts family first (or her kids at least, in her own way)
    Tyrion - Brillant and inventive, clever when it comes to politics and scheming
    All of these traits are embodied in Tywin himself but he can't seem to get them all into just one of his kids, mostly because he himself failed in the parenting arena, something he can't seem to comprehend.

      Tywin's strong traits are outshined by his bad ones. Jaime is a skilled, charismatic fighter and Tywin practically chased him off by never respecting his wishes to be a man of his own making. Cersei puts family first, but Tywin disregards that mainly because he believes she is not that smart (which I suppose holds merit). Tyrion is a brilliant strategist and politician, but Tywin can't unsee the monster that killed his beloved wife. All in all if Tywin had been more understanding towards his children and showed some leniency (even a little), the Lannisters could have been an unstoppable dynasty for years to come. Ironically, the way Tywin handled his kids results (or may results) in the very downfall of the family name he swore he'd protect after seeing his own father nearly destroy it. I agree with Samuel Godwin , his linear thinking is his own downfall.

      However he sacrificed any pretense of love for any of his children, choosing instead to love himself and his position. He says a similar thing to Jaime in A Storm of Swords / season 4 of the show, when Jaime refuses his position as heir to Casterly Rock for the umpteenth time. Here's an excerpt from one of Jaime's later chapters in ASOS:
      " 'I am a knight of the Kingsguard. The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard! And that’s all I mean to be!'
      Firelight gleamed golden in the stiff whiskers that framed Lord Tywin’s face. A vein pulsed in his neck, but he did not speak. And did not speak. And did not speak.
      The strained silence went on until it was more than Jaime could endure. 'Father...' he began.
      'You are not my son.' Lord Tywin turned his face away. 'You say you are the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and only that. Very well, ser. Go do your duty.' "

      It’s very easy to like Tywin. Not a damn thing in this 15 minutes they showed, was wrong that he said. Harsh, but blunt tactful and honest about his beliefs. He was right with Jamie, pointing out his insecurities while also saying he would’ve done x y z. (Which, although again is blunt now with other houses, it still comes with a significant understanding of why, given the situation)
      He was right with cersei, really not much else to say. Calls her a shit mom for not mentoring him into the right direction and commanding respect from her son. Both are accurate
      And even with Tyrion, even if Tyrion wanted recognition or reward for his actions, Tywin doesn’t agree with that and he gave genuine reasons as to why.
      Even though Tyrion developed, Tywin doesn’t see it yet; and tyrions rep of being a drunk with Whores genuinely already preceded him.
      Only real argument to dislike Tywin is that he was obviously more of an ass to Tyrion because his birth killed his mom and he’s a dwarf. Outside of that, it’s kinda hard to disagree with a vast majority of his actions and words.
      Forgot how great he was, just watched a few scene packs. Never rewatched GOT since 6/7/8 were kinda let downs, forgot how great the show was originally

    Tywin: Lannisters...don't act like fools.
    Jaime: Hm.
    Tywin: You wanna say something clever? Go on, say something clever.
    Jaime: I was gonna say they do act like dicks, but you've already done that for me.

    Tywin and Tyrion are both awesome characters and the scenes between them are fucking ace! :D Tywin always acts wisely and for the best of Lannisters but I think that one of his (rare) mistakes is to let his bitter feelings blind him to see the true potential of Tyrion. From the three of Tywins children Tyrion is the one with true mind and skill for ruling.

    Tywin sets such unbelievably high standards that his children fail to match. Cersei is a bad ruler, and Jaime is a mediocre general who loses half the Lannister forces when he's caught unawares in his own camp. Only Tyrion is Tywin's equal in intelligence and strategy, and yet Tywin refuses to make him his heir.

    • @RaphaelJohn
      @RaphaelJohn Před 6 lety +7

      You need to see the other side of things. Cersei isn't a good leader, but she's as ruthless as him, and more ruthless than Tyrion & Jaime, making her less predictable, which helps a lot in dealing with enemies.
      Jaime's forces were caught unaware yes, but in the books, it says that in their camp location, that is the best way to set up for defense. Either way, he's still an amazing general if you see what he did to the Tyrells in season 7.
      Agree on Tyrion's part. If he had seen that Tyrion shared his mind on politics, they're pretty equal.

      Not really tho. Tyrion is the closest to tywin but he ain't no tywin. I don't think he would be able to defeat robb stark or house of reyne. As much as i like him only tywin is tywin same as only olena could be olena

    • @tbeller80
      @tbeller80 Před 18 dny

      @@shin29534 I think the idea is that Tywin could have mentored Tyrion if he hadn't spent his entire life hating him. Tyrion got to where he was all on his own. Imagine if Tywin took the time to actually care about his upbringing where he'd be as a political strategist. Jaime learned his lessons as a General and did a much better job leading the army in both the book and series after he was freed and recovered. He didn't have nearly the political skills that the other three did, but he was roaming the countryside brokering peace agreements and squashing the remaining problems from the war. He'd never be a Hand, but if Tywin could have broken him of his vanity earlier on (and kept him out of his white cloak) he would have still made a good lord.

    Makes you wonder why all of Tywin's family are so messed, it might be because of his own ambitious, prideful stuck up sense of self-importance.

    One thing the show improves on is it gives life to the characters and it shows us what's happening behind the curtains with characters that the book does not show.

    Charles Dance put on the greatest performance of the entire show in every scene he was in for sure. Such a powerful character- it was so difficult to watch seeing him go from a redeeming and likeable character with the scene of him pouring tyrions drink and making him hand of the king to him becoming probably the most evil character in the show with everythinf he said to tyrion in the scene where he was denying him casterly rock

      +MrCAlbert18 Yes, but he was born into his power in a very strict class-based society. None of those people are free; they were born knee-benders.
      In our society, a man like Tywin would be ignored. I've learned that first-hand. You cannot acquire "power" over others by being a hard-ass that bullies people around, in our world (unless you've already acquired some power and exercise it like a drill sergeant would). You've got to be more like Renly, I find, charming them and being "positive" and all that shit.

      FOR MILES AND MILES! Posted about it on the video with the scene wheres Jamie leasves Cersei in the 07th episode! The two scenes Cersei x Tyrion, and Cersei x Jamie are by far, the best in the entire episode. Just because of the actress and actors.
