He only gets away with it earlier on because of the distraction of the war, but after the war he doesn't have the "chaos" he relies on to hide behind anymore, so the other more intelligent characters actually outwit him. To be honest in the books and the TV series, some characters like Varys and Tyrion played him the entire time, they just never got him killed.

These scenes always amazed me at how much the high lords feel comfortable saying in front of servants. No wonder Varys was so good at his job, pay off a few cup bearers and you can learn your opponent's whole strategy. Maisie's acting in this scene is, imo, even better than Charles'. Even though she doesn't speak, her reactions are just perfect.

The blocking and the camera angles, how light and dark it is, the pacing of this scene...I remember watching this scene the first time and the tension! Just incredible.

Last night I rewatched this episode, and for the first time I think I really watched and concentrated in this scene. This has to be one of Tywin's best... and the atmosphere is electrifying. Such great actors.

Brilliant how he cuts it off at "I'll", let's the person he's threatening think about what has done in the past, and how bad it could end up for them if they fuck up any more.
