  • My first of probably 3 videos in a series called Rhaenys Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon being the only adults in the room. Because let's face it, they typically are.
I am side-eyeing that conversation they had with Viserys about Laena, though in-universe it made sense.
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed this and want to see more. Enjoy!

Then again the sea snakes ambitions make it hard to root against viserys becoming king, the new monarch would be named velaryon and the targ dynasty would be done for good.
Coryles would never allow the name to be changed and he would manipulate his way into it, who will stop him? His velaryone heir?

@@aaroncohen2700 I thought about it to, and I have theory.
Many people say that the old king was misogynistic but I don't buy it. He allowed women such as Jonquil Darke into his court, he allowed his daughter Alyssa to be a first Targeryen tomboy, and he shared power with his wife.
So, why did he took Rhaenys right to the throne? What did JT had against his granddaughter?
Well my theory is that JT had nothing against Rhaenys. He propably liked her more than Viserys and Daemon.
But Corlys? That's another matter. I think that JT had a grudge against the family of his mother. His Velaryon uncle - Daemon Velaryon - supported Maegor - the same Maegor who killed his brothers.
Not only that, the same uncle was the one who put forth an idea of Maegor marrying Rhaena - JT older sister and and a widow to his older brother.
Velaryons betrayed JT early in his life. He spared them of course but he must have held a grudge.
And then here comes Corlys the Sea snake who is now the richest man in the kingdom and wants to be a consort to the queen.
I am not surprised he was a bit salty.
JT was probably also jealous of Corlys - after all the fame of the Sea snake has overshadowed that of the old king and that must have been a bitter pill to swallow.

Rhaenys responded by saying that they could go back to the ends of the earth if they chose but she’d get there first cuz she would be flying on Maelys. Ned and Cat weren't really that "balanced," though. Obviously, they loved and respected each other, but there was a major power imbalance in his favor. Cat had no choice in anything - not even whether to marry him. Ned wasn't honest with her and overruled her repeatedly. One of their last conversations was an argument about whether Bran should go with Ned to King's Landing (before his unfortunate-and-entirely-accidental fall). Cat was fiercely opposed and felt like her favorite child was being stolen from her. Ned decided that Bran would go with him, since he thought Bran could help build bridges with Cersei's children, and that Cat had to stay to raise Robb.

Imagine if Viserys married Laena. Targaryen dragons and the Velaryon fleet. They would've been unstoppable. He literally gained nothing marrying Alicent, except unnecessary family drama and civil war. If he and Laena had a son, Rhaenyra could've married whoever she wanted, like Harwin Strong. She wouldn't have minded being replaced as heir by Laena's son since she understood they had a lot to gain from the Velaryons. There would be no Dance.

The other Valyrian houses are shit and have been living in Westeros for hundreds of years since Aenar Targaryen left the freehold. The Vels have been the fleet masters of the Targs and have been given the largest island, Driftmark, to rule, and have been intermarrying with the Targs many times before to ensure a Valyrian bloodline. The other houses didn't have that fortune, maybe some married Aenar's unknown siblings but those lines died out by the time of these events. We see a Celtigar lord later with Rhaenyra on Dragonstone in the show and he doesn't look Valyrian at all which makes sense given how much time has passed since the Doom.

It makes sense that she wouldn't inherit it. Not just out of tradition, but because she was also married to someone who would essentially become king by proxy, that wasn't even part of the bloodline that was supposed to inherit the throne. So making her queen instead would be like if you gave the throne to any other house but house targaryen.

    • @madness9651
      @madness9651 Před 3 měsíci

But that happened with real Houses, too. Queen Victoria was the last of Hanover, then her husband's house took over through her sons (which got then renamed to Windsor).
Only for the Targs themselves the name is important, being the last Dragonlords and stuff, but for the Lords of Westeros these are foreign unifiers, conquerors or invaders depending on point of view and the name itself doesn't have much of a tradition like the names of the native Great Houses.
