House of the Dragon is the Game of Throne's successor show based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a history of House Targaryen set 300 years before the events in GoT. The showrunners of House of the Dragon are Ryan Condal along with battle-tested GoT veteran Miguel Sapochnik.
Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of a turbulent period for House Targaryen, one that set sibling against sibling and dragon against dragon. The point of contention: who should rule on the Iron Throne, of course.
“If you’d like to know a bit more of what the show will be about… well, I can’t actually spill those beans,” Martin teased in his blog, “but you might want to pick up a copy of two anthologies I did with Gardner Dozois, Dangerous Women, and Rogues and then move on to ArchmaesterGyldayn’s history, Fire & Blood.”
Dangerous Women includes what press materials describe as a “35,000-word novella” by Martin called “The Princess and the Queen, or, the Blacks and the Greens,” which is “about the Dance of the Dragons, the vast civil war that tore Westeros apart nearly two centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones.”
Rogues, meanwhile, includes Martin’s story “The Rogue Prince, or, a King’s Brother,” which chronicles “the early life, adventures, misdeeds, and marriages of Prince Daemon Targaryen,” considered “one of the biggest rogues in the entire history of Ice and Fire.”
Finally, the novel Fire & Blood, released in November 2018, is the first novel of a two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.
“Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone,” according to the book’s description on the author’s site. “Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”
House of the Dragon will be about Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
About George R.R. Martin’s involvement, we know only what he stated himself. George R.R. Martin stated: "I expect to be involved in [House of the Dragons] to some extent...and, who knows, if things work out, I may even be able to script a few episodes, as I did for the first four seasons of GAME OF THRONES. But... let me make this perfectly clear... I am not taking on any scripts until I have finished and delivered WINDS OF WINTER. Winter is still coming, and WINDS remains my priority, as much as I'd love to write an episode of HOUSE."

If Aegon’s ( and Rhaenys’ and Visenya’s) Conquest teaches us nothing else, it teaches that united Targaryens are unspeakably powerful. Which makes Jon (the last known living legitimate male Targaryen) killing Daenerys (the last known living legitimate female Targaryen) even more disappointing and tragic.

It would be a targaryen riding a dragon, burning a castle, lord of the house surrendering, then the targaryen riding the dragon to the next castle. Maybe we get a flash back to it but a series…kinda boring.

@@theone7538 I think you're right. A limited series of Robert's rebellion would be a lot better. The dragons are just too OP'd. That's why this iteration of HotD works. Both sides have dragons.
I'm gonna miss Milly who played Rhaenyra. She really cemented herself for the brief time she was on the show. I hope older Rhaenyra will be just as iconic.

I saw a comment that said Aegon works better as a this character we can all make up and see something different in our head, which I totally agree with 100%, but man would I love to see a whole series or even mini series about Aegons conquest.

I think a show about the Conquest could work, but to keep that mythic element I'd tell it entirely from everyone else's point of view.
The Lord's of Westros, Orys Baratheon, Aegons two sister wives ect
A show literally presenting him as a larger than life figure, with a godlike dragon, and who just ALWAYS had the right thing to say. Always wise, fierce, and mysterious. I feel that'd be the best way to make sure everyone's image of Aegon is fair just and accurate.

What a hilarious bunch of nonsense. Neither Jon Snow nor Daenerys are the rightful heir to the throne. What GRRM has probably planned is for them to assist the rightful heir, Jon's half-brother and Daenerys' other nephew, when he comes to claim the throne.

Also it's interesting to note that neither Aegon or his sisters tried to force Valyrian culture onto Westeros. Mostly they respected the lands with their cultures and traditions. Bold in cases of the North and the Iron Islands because they didn't had any interest in "southern" or "greenlander" culture. Also religious because fanatics can grow from either side, it's a wonder that Aegon didn't had to deal with a religious war.

I know he wants to do it himself and he really would do it best, but finishing so many projects and expansions just doesn't look feasible in his lifetime. I just want to see him finish the original series as best as he can and write whichever other expansions he has time to, and another author he trusts would continue the expansions.

Remember, they're really small people and I think whatever weapons they had were copper, not steel. They didn't stand a chance against full-grown men. this animated history featurette on the season 8 dvd is the best thing hbo's made since season 4. Well, before Hot d, but yea, this whole featurette is really great. the voice acting, particularly Viscerys Targaryen and Varys, is sooooo good.

Not at all. Aegon wasn't a warrior he was a dragonrider through and through. He wasn't a buff giant like Henry Cavill. Henry Cavill is more suited for young Robert baratheon.

the fact there isn't a series regarding aegons conquest given the fact the history of his conquest is a commonly referenced book, i find sad. this would be amazing as a live action series/trilogy or if GRRM pulled a rick riordan/tolkien and wrote his own histories in the perspective of GOT.

What if after Season 6 of the Main Show, they took a break and focused on Sequels to set up the ending more instead of massacring Seasons 7 and 8. The buildup with all the backstory would be insane and the shows are of quality enough to distract viewers long enough until the books are completed.

This was the prequel I was hoping for, but 'House of the Dragon' is about half way between this and 'Game of Thrones'. Don't get me wrong, 'House of the Dragon' has been good, but this animation begins with the actual conquerer, as well as Balerion, the Black Dread and Vagar in her youth. Balerion is dead and Vagar is old. 'HoD' is the Dance of the Dragons story Shireen told to Davos when she was teaching him how to read.

I love how everyone is saying Aeegon brought the trageryans into succesion over Westeros, but it was actually Visenya who convinced Aegeon to fight and subdue the lords of Westeron.
I think the north could’ve held out because specially if this was during winter, I think targaryen‘s were smart, and they realize that the north would’ve not been the easiest kingdom to conquer so he conquered the easiest kingdoms first, because at the end of the day, if the Targaryen‘s would have tried to attack the north during winter they would have lost, and the conqueror knew that too because at the end of the day, just by the TV show dragons don’t do good in cold I truly believe that the north should’ve never went down to meet his army, but you should have done it is let them through to the north and fought them on your own ground in your backyard which you know which they don’t because you gotta remember first things first they gotta go through swamp land to get to the actual freezing cold north where the reeds live and if they can make it through the poison, swampland the alligators and all that other stuff plus the reeds house reed being there, not to mention having a lot of other houses, meet them pretty much right there you already beaten them by the swamp lands, and the poison animals in the poison plants, and the alligators and the other swamp creatures that live there if you would’ve just let them into the north, instead of meeting them down south, you could’ve fought them guerrilla warfare style and even with their dragons. None of them know how to you know get through your map out the north. there’s a lot of holes in the story that I find bullshit. If any of them were actually smart leaders, they would’ve led the Targaryen‘s into the north and fought them on their own territory and their own backyard, because at the end of the day Dorn showed that the dragons weren’t that big of a deal if you can defeat the dragons, the Targaryen‘s are just people, and even after the dance of the dragons that they were on the throne for so very long I never understood why people would say oh dragon fire again when you’re fighting the north, you should’ve let them invaded the north even in the show he said it is too big for an outside invader to control and like I said if we’re talking about books or shows at the end of the day, there’s so many magic of the old gods up in North they had so many ideas. The one brother of the king of the north wanted to sneak in and shoot the dragons with a magical arrow from one of the old god trees some people believe it would’ve been like dragon glass to the dragons like it did to the wall white walkers, but they didn’t know like I said there’s a lot of things that go into it. I think the Northerners screwed up by meeting them in the south like I said, you should’ve let them invaded the north. And fight them on your own territory and I guarantee you you would’ve won because people forget before you even enter the north there swamplands poison, poison animal, poison plants, and then you have house reed and the northern army ready for you to get out of the swamp land ready to attack you like think about it and someone’s gonna say hey well the dragons are just gonna start fires to it yeah and when the chemicals from them poison plants get up and hit the dragons and the dragon dies. Then what you could sit here and say oh dragon fire, this dragon fire that but dragons can only fight so much with nature, and if they burning poison plants in the few gets in the air and it hits the dragon and the dragon dies because again, they don’t know what’s in the swamp land of the north and everything and what poison and they don’t even know how to guide them selves through the north like I said there’s a lot of holes in the north just bending the knee or maybe the king was just a bitch

Since bran was marked by the night king bran will eventually turn in to the the new night king with the power of the 3 eye raven ultimately making him “ The Other” opposite to the god of light. Bran started turning people of kings landing into night walkers and they spreaded to the whole continent. Game of thrones meets the walking dead lol. But with the return of white walkers and they reaching to the far north Jon returns south to investigate and rally all the survivors he tracks down drogon to use dragon fire and he become the promised prince and uses the real light bringer to kill bran and take the responsibility to become the new king to insure peace for the land.
