When Manchester City faced Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Pep Guardiola had a plan to stop Atleti’s time-wasting and dark-arts tactics.
He needed help from the ball boys.
What did they do? What was Guardiola’s plan? Did it work?

Now there's a title no one would ever misread
Bruh 😅
I'm glad that the answer was for getting the ball back into play quickly not...
Lol
Even the thumbnail is sus

This is old news because Swansea having been giving special instructions to their ballboys for years. Ask Eden Hazard.
😂😂 hazard
😂😂💀💀
As a ball I can confirm.
No worries I'll give him a ring here
@@iameverywhere8551 Really!
It's pretty clever. Give the ball boys a sense of pride and involvement, while also asking them to stay focused on the game the whole time which will help them learn the style of play and instill discipline into them.
Jurgen Klopp has done it Liverpool for years. Nothing new

The fact that Pep out-shithoused Simeone is actually impressive
Tbh
It was a thing of beauty
He outsimeone-ed Simeone
In fairness to Simone when he's asked about shithousery from the opposition in press conferences he always goes, "we all do it". And don't forget, in Spain he has to deal with institutional shithousery too as it's all about Madrid and Barcelona there.
It's an iberian thing
Considering that Guardiola used to be a Barcelona ball boy, he knows what's up.
Really?
yep this is an old tactic Pep learned at Barca

Foden as well, now he plays at city
I was sat behind Oblak's goal in the first half, the speed at which the ball was given to him was noticeable which all makes sense now. Cheers, Tifo!
From the title I thought it was going to be a harrowing exposé with the potential to end Guardiola's career
great title guys... :)
What was it
My thoughts exactly, Reaka. Why have they decided to phrase it this way? 😂

Boys ball?
Pep is going to use the ball boy to score the goal in the UCL final
Orrr he could bottle it like he always do
But he will drop Fernandinho.
He meant it when he said they were going to play with 12 the other day haha
When you're liverpool or Chelsea fan 🤣🤣🤣
Real are going to the final brother
Aha not really
This title would mean a whole different thing on other channels, like the nightly news
what was it
don't all teams instruct their ball boys to act in a desired way whether it's to speed things up or slow them down? Liverpool's famous "corner taken quickly" goal was due in part to Oakley Cannonier the ball boy who is now a star in their U18 team
Yeah exactly. It's getting silly now how people want to credit managers for reinventing the wheel.
Even more noteworthy was a ball boy who was very fast to give a Spurs player the ball for a throw in. Mourinho went over to thank him personally, then brought him in to meet the whole team at a practice session during the week.
Here come the LFC fans… please read the title of the video and ask yourself how it pertains to Liverpool at all? So weird
@@godalbinothe people want to talk about real clubs not pop-up petro scams.
@@ComradeOgilvy1984 they even gave the ball boy a dinner session with the first team, which is really cool
usually the ball boy is instructed to delay the ball to the opponent and vice versa so this is interesting
How Pep Guardiola Uses Ball, Boys
How Pep Guardiola Uses. Ball Boys
How Pep! Guardiola Uses Ball Boys
How? Pep Guardiola Uses Ball Boys
The last one is interesting
Works on contingency. No money down.
Works on contingency? No, money down!
He might have learned the Dark Arts of the Ballfolk during his stint at Dorados de Sinaloa.
Having a ball boy delivering quickly the ball if the home team is behind, of having him retaining the ball for too long if the home team is up by one goal and the away team is pushing hard for the drawing goal... Those were common sights at Liga MX stadiums, and once they get back to the fields (the pandemic forced them out), I'm pretty sure those things will come back as well.
Pep Guardiola, Human Resource Management Master
Might want to reword that title admin lmao
Everybody in the comments: WOW PEP IS GENIUS
Me who's watching ballboys do the same thing every week in the Czech league: You ain't see nothing yet kid
This is pretty common. I was a ballboy multiple times in german Bundesliga games and they (not even the coach) told us to act very fast if your team ist behind and go slow if your team is ahead. Youre told to put the ball right to the corner so they just have to kick it or to wait a few seconds and toss it very high so it travels even longer in the air.
I dont see why this thing is speciel, except maybe because Pep told them to and not just the guy who has to look over the ballboys.
Thanks for the insight.
It's from Johan Cruyff. He spoke in his book about how people thought he was fast, but he said he was not fast. It was because he made an action before the reaction. If you do something before the opponent reacts you catch them off guard. That is why you see them playing a call real fast to keep the game going. Also the famous Liverpool goal vs Barcelona from the corner kick. Catch them with speed or when they not ready. Johan also said that he always loved to be the man throwing the ball in because that means as soon as he throws the ball in and runs he is a man unmarked and can be an extra man to get the ball and keep the play moving fast.
Hopefully not the same way crewe used to
When you think about it, that title sounds kinda mad.
Just how your mind works
@@richard7645 youre right but that's how it just is
Pep is playing mindgames
It's incredible seeing where this channel started and where it is now. The quality of animation has increased so much over the years! Incredible work Tifo. Hope yall have many more fruitful years ahead of you!
idk man i preferred tifo from 2018-19
Was lucky enough to be at this tie at the Etihad and didn't notice it at the time but love how Guardiola wants to make a match's play as quick and fluent as possible.
Tifo is growing a lot.
It shows in their videos and they new style of it.!
Kudos to the team. The videos are more engaging.!✨
Made by Mourinho years ago! Now Guardiola does it and suddenly genius!
Mourinho's brilliance is often overlooked because of his many controversies and personality but theres no doubting he is one of the top 5 greatest managers of all time.
And a pioneer!
Mourinho didnt invent this, it is as old as time.
This attention to detail is why Guardiola is one of the all time greats, oh and the endless cash.

Scenes in the cl final when Guardiola doesnt Play Haaland and uses him as a Ballboy because he is the fastest and has good hand to eye coordination
Brought to you by Manscaped
I've not really listened much to Pep speak, but I'm glad that he pointed out that Man City do the exact same things.
I was a ball boy for the New Zealand vs Peru 2018 World Cup playoff and we were explicitly trained to pass the ball as quick as possible if we were behind and to walk/pass the ball slowly if we were winning. 😆
Must be cool
The ball boy who set up *that* quick corner at Anfield against Barcelona, Cannonier, is now the top scorer at Liverpool U18s and set to feature around the first team next season.
Piers Morgan went so far as to credit the goal to Cannonier rather than Alexander-Arnold or Origi.
Pep is GENIUS
MAGIC
INTELLECTUAL MAN
Ange Postecoglu does the same at Celtic. In fact our full backs invert similar to Pep’s too. I wonder if their are more similarities in the two
Top notch content as usual
Great insights. thanks
You couldn't name the title any better
A few years ago in Brazil, the ball boys of Internacional-RS would position the ball for the corner kicks. They were instructed to position the ball in the exact point the kicker liked it. The team even scored a goal in a fast play and celebrated WITH the ball boy!
Imagine being in u14 team and actually having a message from the gaffa 🤯
Every team in top flight does this
could do with a change of title... considering city's past with young boys in their academy. i.e barry bennell
The fact this is needed is yet another argument to stop the clock when the ball goes out of play (30-35 minutes effective playing time per half)
Pep is a freakin Genius
Pep been doing it since his Barca and more obviously in Bayern Munich. Especially if Bayern were a goal down in a match, the Ball Boys would give the ball to their GK very quickly. It's a different approached from Ball boys try to delay the opposite team nonetheless.
This video looks amazing
Interpol : reads video title.
Also Interpol : Guess Prison FC's getting a new manager.
You forgot the part where Guardiola turns them into UCL goalscorers.
The title is wild 😂
Honestly this is genius level game management and man management of potential future stars!
Phil Foden even used to be a City Ball boy and look where he is now
not sure what I was expecting when I read that title
Should have shown parts of the match where this was happening
Arteta is thinking of cloning himself and unleashing an army of lego-haired ballboys who throw the ball back really fast to gain a valuable pre-assist.
Passion shows in many fashions
Good work
Pep been a genius.
Pep’s gonna start the Ball boys on the wings in the UCL final
So this is the reason why Joe Hart was kicked out of Man City by Pep
LEGENDS
any statistics on how much time was lost the whole game? how does the time loss compare to other games?
but i dont think is only the time, its also the dynamis if you know what i mean
What a title
Arteta is probably the best ball boy Pep produced
He did this at Barcelona too. In general the better team wants fast restarts.
Haha this feels like TIFO scraping the barrel for a story. All the obvious ones used up.
Next week 'Why Pep wears a tracksuit and message it transmits to the team' :D
Or the week after that - 'Where Pep gets his haircut and what it means for the Man City 'culture' he created at the club.'
I love how on my phone one of the recommended tags related to this video was "Manchester United F.C." 😂
Bro just pass to Rodrygo and that's it. Why make it so complicated
I knew I read that title right!
I am loving pep
really cool animation
And if you noticed the ads board consisted mainly blue coloured ads
Thought Pep was going the way of Adam Johnson there for a second.
Ange Postecoglou has the ball boys at Celtic doing this every game
Shame they weren’t at Hampden on Sunday ☺️
Now that’s a bold title for a video…
Home ground advantage
Luis Omar Tapia from Univision caught and saw that the ball boys where running to get the ball toss it over to the City an it made me laugh. 😅
WOW 😂 when does it cross the line from Genius to Crazy 😂‼️ Ggs tho it worked ‼️
He leaves no stone unturned.
I genuinely misread “ How Guardiola uses boy balls “ …Been awake all night, think I need to get some rest 🥲
Fascinating insight into game management and the detail. Our cloggers at United are clueless. Never thought I'd say it but city and pep are in a league of two with the bloody scousers. Come back Olé
We don’t need olé back, best not to fix a current issue with an old one, our best bet would’ve been to keep mourinho, however all we can do is hope Ten Haag does well with what he’s got
Pretty smart they are important it’s basically a fast free throw
The art of war....
Meanwhile, Anfield ball boy was doing this too before Trent was about to kick the corner.
Who is here after Hamilton's goal in the UCL
When I saw the title I thought that’s another one of those scandals 🤣
The ball boys were nervous ? My guy I am 25, and if Guardiola told me what he told them I would be shitting my pants constantly during the whole match.
Sus title
Pep Likes Boys
Title kinda sus though
Pep giving Simeone a taste of his own medicine is the best thing I have seen in years. Simeone deserved this after all these years of shithousery .
Well, he used to be a ball boy at Camp Nou.
He couldn’t tell them in person?
the title could be worded better lol
Its perfect actually
i read the title wrong
Sinister title
Tifo football ❤
Do more merch, as the audience for ideas!
I find it a bit hypocritical by Pep when he says he never judges another teams style of play but in the premier league when a team sit back and play counter attacking football he complains and says this isn’t the way football should be played. Which completely contradicts what he’s said in this video.🤦♂️
Is it just me or did anyone else also notice the other connotation of this video's title?
this first city video in 6 months
"BEND OVER."
they're called ballpeople now
thought im watching another episode of samurai champloo for a sec
I'm Wondering what was his answer for 3-1 defeats against Inter Milan back then in 09/10 season..
I heard so many Barca fanboys called 'Inter play ugly' or 'Negative Football'..
The title of the could be what gets him arrested
Time wasting when the ball is out of play, like Atleti do all the time, or like the classic clip of Jens Lehmann intentionally bouncing the ball off the advertising boards, are examples of why we need the clock to be stopped when the ball is out of play.
We, the supporters are being taken for a ride!! We pay handsomely for 90 mins of action and see less than half of that.
Stopping the clock would help. And having the officials warning teams for time wasting and showing yellow cards. Anytime goalkeepers flop to the ground after catching the ball when the move was unnecessary (if attackingplayers can get carded for diving, then GKs should can one for flopping!!) will see them playing the ball within five seconds or face getting carded.
