      I was lucky enough to see Barça beat Huesca 8-2. Messi scored twice, but that wasn’t what made his performance so special. He played the game like a puppeteer, with every player, and the ball, on the end of strings. He was completely in control from kick off to final whistle, conducting the game like an orchestra. I have never seen anyone play like that, and I don’t know if I ever will again. I can’t compare him to Pele or Maradona or Ronaldo or Cruyff, because I never witnessed them, but I am a Premier League season ticket holder and have seen pretty much every player in the country over the past 10 years, and if you took De Bruyne and Gerrard and Lampard and Bale and Salah and every other player to grace this country, and put them all together into one player, they wouldn’t be half the player that Lionel Messi is.

    I think one of my biggest gripes with the Messi vs Ronaldo thing is how the respective camps can't settle for highlighting and uplifting their own 'GOAT' but must simultaneously degrade and abuse the other player. Yeah. I think messi is the goat, but Ronaldo is in my opinion top 5 of all time. I think Ronaldo has has the nest career silverware wise, and he scores a lot of goals (a lot of tap ins and pens mind) but messi has such good dribbling skills (he has made so many good runs over the years) he also had such clinical bottom corner finishes from range. Neither won the WC but that doesn't matter cause neither had good national teams. Also messi has such good vision and can assist from insane ranges

      @@joelmacinnes2391 Obviously its all perspective, to me Ronaldo is the goat. People may argue over the fact that Messi was naturally gifted and spent his entire career nursed by Barcelona in the same league, scoring lots of goals against the same teams in the league. But for me Ronaldo's hardwork, mental strength, dominating diff leagues and the UCL, training his ass off to be the very best alongside a rival ( who is naturally gifted ) makes it as an inspiration for me. Coz obviously not all are born with generic natural talent ( which may be another argument whether god gifted talents do exist ). Nonethless for me they both will be the very best, but Ronaldo for me is the goat.

    • @ragilmalik
      @ragilmalik Před 3 lety +20

      @@joelmacinnes2391 You forgot that ronaldo is the 3rd asisst since people start counting assist (around 2000s), below messi and ozil. If taps ins are to be ashamed of, i'm sure Brazilian ronaldo won't be counted as legend. Huntelaar, higuain, benzema, ibra, those people score much higher taps in ratio than cr7, but well, "people".
      A goalscorer is supposed to, you know, make goals. It doesn't matter if you score from another field, from mars or from penalty spot, a goal is a goal. If scoring goal is easy, i don't see any active players even come close to cr7 goals except messi and ibra. Proof that even "tapping it in" is still hard.

    I don't think there is really much of a debate as to who the better player is between the two, outside of diehard fans of Ronaldo. Ronaldo is one of the best scorers in history, and a marvel to watch, but he's not on the same level as Messi overall. It's a bit like comparing Ovechkin and Gretzky. That assist Messi had on the third goal against Croatia, the chances he creates, on top of the goals he scores, is what set him apart.
    It shame that Ronaldo has to be defined in relation to Messi though, because it always becomes an ugly conversation. It is possible to consider Ronaldo a notch below Messi overall and also believe him to be among the best to ever play the game.

    • @sahajshetty1844
      @sahajshetty1844 Před rokem +3

      Comparing them is rather naïve, Messi, never played for a side which was struggling in the midtable and revolutionized them like Maradona did in Napoli, his trophy cabinet would be much less stashed if he ever did that, Barca were winning titles before Messi's rise and the Spanish national team which won the Euros in 2012 and the World Cup in 2010 had a huge Barcelona influence, so we cannot say for sure whether he single handedly led Barcelona to titles, they had a dream midfield trio and a genius in Pep coaching them which overall accelerated his development as well.
      We can say he is the most naturally gifted players of our generation, his skills on the ball, vision for an assist and precision finishing are sure things to envy but these are all qualitative aspects of his game and it is difficult or rather disingenuous to compare him to a player like Ronaldo who has primarily played as a striker for the past decade.

    Statiscally, you can't pull them apart. They've both scored over 700 career goals. Won the Champions League 4- 5 each between them. The two highest winners in the ballon d'Or history 6-5 each. The two highest goalscorers in champions league history. Ronaldo's won a major trophy, the Euro with his nation team Portugal. All in all. It's an extraordinary resumé from both players.
    On the actual technical playing side of the game:
    Messi is arguably, the greatest dribbler of the ball, the game as seen. At times, dribbling a sackful of defenders, in literally zero spaces. Just unbelievable, otherwordly technique, of the likes, am not sure we've seen any player do so regularly. Making it all look so easy in the process. He's also an unbelievable passer of the ball, with superb vision & awareness to weigh up a situation quickly & play the right pass at the right time, with just the right amount of flight, speed, accurancy on the ball.
    Ronaldo's the greatest, most complete forward line player the game as seen, with the exception of Pelé. Like Pelé, he possess's all of the following; Equally efficient with both feet. Phenomenal header of the ball. And can manipulate the ball, with a bewildering amount of free style skills & in his younger days.Was an unplayable, fast dribbler of the ball...His off the ball movement, in around the penalty box, is arguably the best the game as seen from a striker.
    Without doubt. The two best players of the 2010s...

      Messi is miles ahead Ronaldo . Why don't people just understand that you're purely influenced by media. Are people that dumb , they don't have own mind .

      Ah then I'd pick
      Thomas Muller. When it comes to major games, tournament finals, no one can touch him.
      Between Messi and Ronaldo, I'd pick Ronaldo.

      @@Maxim89Il Muller in a game where you start 2-0 down?? in a once off game?? Yes he is unplayable in Tournaments , but is he really carrying the team on his back? and is he pulling the team from Deficit?

    It’s as simple as this.. Messi and Ronaldo are pretty level when it comes to goalscoring. But ANYTHING else, Messi wins. So how can anybody say Ronaldo is the better overall player? It’s baffling.

      What "anything else"? Messi will score many goals against weak La Liga teams, but then can't take the pressure in major games, while Ronaldo steps it up in major games.

    La Liga may struggle after Messi is gone. They are dominated by two teams, but those two teams have traditionally had ballond'or winners. The Premier League is incredibly strong now and Serie A is slowly improving.
