  • The New York Times is back with another new daily word game, Connections! This is heavily inspired by "The Wall" from the BBC quiz show Only Connect. You must sort the sixteen given words into thematically appropriate groups of four--and you only have a few opportunities for error! I don't know if I'll be solving this every day but I'm giving it a shot for now at least. We'll see how it goes. Let me know how you like it!

Related to the “Red ____” answers, your subconscious is either smarter than mine OR it speaks more loudly to you than mine does to me!”

Is anyone else waiting for the "meta-category" category?
e.g. Homophone, Synonym, Prefix, and then maybe something more vague like Pop Culture - common category themes in the game "Connections".

I was never able to connect new to gnu because I’ve only ever seen that written and thought it was pronounced ga-nu.

I knew gnu rhymes with new, but I do remember a lengthy song from my youth called “I’m a Guh-Nu” sung by a gnu.

I got the homophones group but it took a while for the penny to drop because gnu and new are not homophones in my accent (I say "gnu" as "noo" and "new" more like "n'yew")

@@johnyesjustjohn You're remembering the wonderful Flanders and Swann song "I'm a Gnu".

Computer programmers and others who use Linux know that it's pronounced ga-new with a hard g. Not 'new'.

Gen Xers will know it's ga-new from watching Gary Gnu on the Great Space Coaster (🎶 Get on board! 🎶)

@@instantfizz... And besides those two exceptions, everybody else silences the G.
