- The New York Times is back with another new daily word game, Connections! This is heavily inspired by "The Wall" from the BBC quiz show Only Connect. You must sort the sixteen given words into thematically appropriate groups of four--and you only have a few opportunities for error! I don't know if I'll be solving this every day but I'm giving it a shot for now at least. We'll see how it goes. Let me know how you like it!

I didn't spot the missing word as GOLD either, and regretted that I didn't. So obvious in hindsight! My brain was stuck on a different meaning for both LEAF and MINE, and that's why I couldn't see it.
In the United States and possibly elsewhere, they sell bags of candy hearts around Valentines Day. These hearts have words like LOVE, MINE, KISSES, ALWAYS and YOURS on them. To eliminate one from the list, I spent the extra time to find the "gold" connection. I never even thought of letter sign-offs.
I never would have thought of that! But you're right -- those candy hearts do use thise words!

Even though I had to ponder the purple for a bit, it’s easy to wonder why you can’t see it. Our brains are funny.
The nature of this game is that sometimes they take awhile, and we decide to cut out losses.
