  • Part 12 of the Chinese scooter PDI assembly video series details installing the body panels ( fairings / plastics ) on a Tao Tao ATM50A1 and scooters like it. I tried to go over each clip and detail the best I could to make the process simple for even beginners. This video finishes up the basic PDI. Check out the next video if you'd like to install a trunk as well.

    Thanks for the detailed complete takedown. I pick mine up tomorrow, and seeing everything removed gives me an idea of what alls there. This greatly helps with building an assembly and inspection strategy. I can tell you the front fairing is coming off as is the light hood because holey connectors batman that's a lot of plugs/cables.

    I've heard that if you have the bigger tire, the front fender may scrape at it's rear arch. Coarse sand it bigger.

    I learnt a lot from your videos as I recently bought this scooter, so thank you for that... But for the life of me I can't find/figure out how to change the headlight. I unscrewed every visible screw but couldn't open the panel. Any help/advise would be great.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 8 lety

      Look at the panel behind the one that the headlight is in. There are screws near the bottom of it that attach it to the front panel. There should also be one screw in the bottom of the front panel. Then there are clips along the top of those two panels. Be gentle with the clips. Once they are separated, you can get to the bulb or take out the headlamp assembly.

      Thank you very much for the prompt reply, yes I took all the screws out but couldn't un-clip. I'll try it again but do I press the front cover down or pull it backwards?

    I just assembled my Tao Tao CY50B scooter. Changed the fluids, charged the battery and put in ethanol-free gas. When I turned the key in the ignition, all the lights came on but no engine sounds of any kind, Nothing. No trying to turn over or anything. Do know what the problem could be? This is a brand new scooter, I have never even started it up. Thanks

    Hey was riding today for about 20mins everything was good. Get home, park, Then it died and now won't start, It just cranks. Any ideas? It's a new spark plug (ngk is getting spark), getting gas (replaced petcock with inline petcock) and battery is good......, Maybe i need to replace the stock carb so i can adjust mix. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 50cc GY6 taotao new still 35km...thank you

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 7 lety +1

      You can try some things to see if the mixture is the issue. Cover part or all of the airbox inlet to make it richer and see what happens. Holding the throttle wide open will help if it's flooding. You can try removing the airbox to make it lean. Don't ride it around with the airbox off if it starts, just use that to get you pointed in the right direction. Maybe the valve lash is out of spec from the factory?

    • @sfaustina
      @sfaustina Před 7 lety

      ok thank, I first tried covering the airbox inlet, "opened throttle all the way, brake in, pushing starter." i did it a few times and one time it almost sounded like it was going to start? should it start all the way? So it must be the mixture?.....I tried again and Its started 3 times then died???

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 7 lety

      Try adjusting the mixture screw and see if that gets you anywhere. Before you start, count the amount of turns it takes to seat the screw and write it down. Then turn the screw out some different amount of turns and try. Part 7 of the PDI shows unsealing the carb.

    So when a bulb needs changing on a scooter do u need to remove all those side panels ? I'm dreading having to change an indicator bulb or brake light

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 5 lety +1

      You can get to the tail stuff with just a cover and a couple of screws IIRC. Sometimes with panels and such you can reach up from behind and get the bulb out and in.

    I just bought a rakota. Ran fine for a week now . I went and got a ignition set. After I installed seat lock, ignition, gas lock, I went to crankcase it won't start.. It's a nice scooter too . Any ideas? I just don't have the money to bring it to a shop

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 10 lety

      Check for spark first. Possibly something is not matched up right with the new ignition switch, which could disable the ignition system.

      Don't have one. Carb cleaning is a common need if they sit for long. Make sure the petcock is working.

    I just bought a Tao Tao CY50B Chinese scooter. I am looking for a repair manual or at least a digram of where every thing is located on the moter. Do you happen to know where I might find this info? Thanks

      I just have a HarborFreight assortment around. Don't recall the size used. Hardware stores should have them (just take a screw/clip if you wanna get the best match).

    @hfd484 Před 10 lety

    Yo, 90gtvret, i got a few questions.
    How did you get so skilled in this? You sound like a professional.
    How did you get started in this? I'm a college student that was looking into a 80cc bicycle kit, then realized the cops would leave me alone if I just get a scooter.LOL
    Are speedometers of by 10km/5mph?
    Should I install a Kevlar belt for the rear tire?
    I want to install a 100cc jet engine to the back of this($50 on amazon), should I take my meds and go to my psychiatrist?LMAO, Just kidding, though people will never be able to say "I didn't hear him officer" and I will have a 80+mph racing scooter >: )

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 10 lety

      Hey.
      I dunno that I'm that skilled, but it's just practice. Lots of time.
      I used to ride little midbikes. Kinda like a pocket bike but a step up in size. A friend got one and I thought it was ridiculous till I rode it and then I was hooked. Got pulled over with friends on those and threatened with lots of fines and charges since they aren't street legal here. I really liked the small engines because I could tinker without tons of effort and cash like cars and big bikes. A 49cc scooter was legal so I could ride without worrying about cops. Picked up a 2004 Vento Triton from a local dealer in 2006 and thus begun my scooter addiction.
      Some speedometers are off by that much. It should be looked at more like a percentage. A scooter prob won't be off by 5MPH @ 5MPH, but it could be off by 5MPH or more @ 50MPH. Mine stock was 4MPH off @ 32MPH IIRC, so about 9%.
      A kevlar CVT drive belt is not necessary. It's fine if you want to, but a plain Bando works well for me at a lower cost. Whatever you do don't buy generic Chinese belts. They are very likely to break.
      I know nothing about jet engines, but I'm all for it if you can pull it off. I think then you go back to issues with police though.
