    Hey 90GTVert! Just want to say "Thank You!" for taking the time to put this series together. I'm a 52 year old Gramma who needed to get mobile on a budget and opted to buy a TaoTao Scooter. With no mechanical knowledge myself, Your expertise has really helped me out as my scooter arrived with absolutely NO assembly instructions. While I was tempted to just assemble to save time, I took your advice and removed the body panels to inspect. Good thing, many issues that needed attention....like the fuel hose that was not connected....despite all the stickers that claimed it was "inspected" and "tested", LOL. ADVICE TO NEW SCOOTER PURCHASERS.....WALK THRU EVERY VIDEO IN THIS SERIES!'
    Thanks again 90GTVert!!! Kathy

    This guy did a fantastic job on this series of videos. I am going to purchase this exact model soon and found this information informative and helpful. The Chinese have been manufacturing scooters for a very long time, over 50% of the scooters in the world are made in China. Since they are starting to become more available in the USA, this poses a threat to more expensive manufacturers . As a result , there is a lot of negative information being distributed, designed to deter consumers from buying Chinese scooters.
    Scooters are utilized more in Asian countries than anywhere else and the Chinese make some pretty good models for the price. Take a look at the videos of scooter traffic in Taiwan to get an idea of how many people use these for their main transportation every day.

    10W40 to 15W40. You don't need a motorcycle oil, because these scoots don't have wet clutches. Wait till maybe 500 miles if you want to use synthetic. I have an oil change vid up as well, as one of the parts of my PDI series.

    I have a 2012 taotao was running fine but when I did a valve adjust the exhaust keeper nut came off and the scooter bogged out. Fixed didn't see any harm done and got scooter to restart off a jump box. I can no longer get it to start and I have fuel leaking from air box about 5 minutes after trying to to start. Do you think I'm flooding the crab is why it won't start? It tries after awhile on jump box bit never fires off. Think petcock is stuck open little cuz when i pull fuel lunge from crab I have a small stream and scooter is off

    Great video I just have a couple questions. I'm 16 and want to drive a moped just around town and school. I live in Connecticut and am a bit confused about my state laws regulating the cc of each moped/scooter. So if i was to purchase this "moped" would it be legal for me to drive it, and is it 49cc or is it 50cc. Because I have been informed that it has to be 49cc but when I research this bike brand it comes up at 50cc. Please help me clear this up.

  • @mzcains1349
    @mzcains1349 Před 9 lety

    I've watched a lot of your videos and subscribed because I feel that they're extremely helpful. Especially for someone like me who is not really mechanically inclined. But I've been doing a lot of research about scooters and I've decided a 150cc would better suit my needs. I'm wondering if the PDI would be the same I mean everything is pretty much in the same spot since I'm still getting a taotao right? Or are there any major differences I should be aware of?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 9 lety

      Mz Cains For the the most part the PDI will be the same, but removing panels will be different unless you've found a 150 that looks like the ATM50. The GY6 150 is very similar to the 139QMB/GY6 50 so oil change and valve adjustment will be the same process. If you decide to do the part of the PDI checking under the CVT cover, then on the 150cc you need to remove the kick start lever before the cover comes off instead of the whole assembly coming off like the 50. There will be some differences here and there but I think the PDI series will help most of the way. You can always join the forum 49ccscoot.proboards.com and there's someone around willing to help most of the time too.

    move down south boys! In Georgia you only need proof of orgin/title & bill of sale incase you "decide" to insure it.....50cc are not req. to be registered or insured here as of yet, no DMV sticker/inspection needed! Only thing needed here for 50cc is a drivers license & helmet n yer good ;)

    Do you think the electrical components on the 50cc taotao could stand running 6-7 12" led light strips with out doing any harm. I want to add a couple of red lights for better visibility and braking.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 10 lety

      Try not to stack up more than 10-15 watts and you should be OK. Check the ratings of the strips you're looking at and add them up. You can probably get away with a little more for brake activated lights since they are not operating full time. Keep an eye on your battery charging until you know for sure that your lighting setup is not drawing too much.

      If you get a helmet, get a good one. You don't have to spend big money, but buy a known brand (not the cheapest Chinese helmet you can find) and make sure it fits you properly. They can save your life. Trust me. I've had 2 accidents where I ruined full face helmets. Got knocked out on the last one in maybe a 40MPH crash (deer). If that's with a helmet on, I can only imagine without. Many people think of helmets as little more than an inconvenience, but if you ever need it you will be glad to have it. Don't think you won't crash. I got hit by a deer once. The other one was someone losing a hay bale as they passed that landed in front of my tire. Sometimes there's nothing you can do about it.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 9 lety

      Replace fluids is a must IMO. Don't trust that stuff. Some get lucky and don't have problems for a while, some don't. IMO spending time on it now saves time and frustration later, but it's your call. Beyond the fluids, at very least look it over and check that everything is working, tire pressure is good, tires and valve stems are in good condition, no play in the steering, and brakes are working well.

      Have you checked the float height to make sure it's not stuck or hanging and allowing too much fuel in?

      No I haven't. It's the stock carb which is sealed. I think the petcock is stuck open cus I still have fuel coming thru

      Oh OK. I was tired and I guess with the typo I didn't register what you were saying. Definitely replace the petcock. A manual shutoff is much better IMO, because they don't fail unless they get old and crack/rot or something in the fuel line clogs them.

      Ok I've changed the petcock so I am still getting fuel but it's not leacking out of airbox anymore. Someone suggested I check compression so I did. I'm get anywhere from 60-70 psi on the gauge. Was told it should be around 100-110 so would this mean my main gasket on the piston chug is bad or that I need new rings on piston. Sorry for typos it's auto correct on cell I've recently broke a hand so it takes me awhile working on scooter
