Im a harley guy but kinda fascinated by these cheap little scooters. Your a great teacher man. You know your motors.
Thanks! They can be pretty fun.
Best info i have got yet. Thanks alot for the response man. I think that i will go with the 72cc, sliders, maybe a better exhaust, and jet the carb. Awesome. I want to keep this thing running for a while so i am not trying to make it a race bike untill i can afford to buy a truck.
GREAT INFO ON THE CARBURATOR
6:37-8:40...this part I really needed to get my bike kicked back up.Remember this everyone that has trouble riding in the winter time.Thank you.
I have a 2012 Jonway Solana. It has the QMB 139, and i have not found any restrictions on the model. No screws or stem in the carb cap. No washer on the CVT. It goes, or reads 45 at full throttle when i am on flat ground, but it is very slow up hills. I am often full throttle on it, and i have about a 10 mile trip to and from work every day. I have an NGK spark plug, and i have switched to 4t 5w-40 Scooter oil that is synthetic from Bel Ray, which i found to be helpful in performance. 300+miles
awesome video thanx
dude love your videos! Got my scoot put together this weekend and love it! keep up the good work :) helped me tons
Not sure about the Gates. Bandos have treated me well so I stick with them. Not sure which variator is best. I think stock works pretty well with sliders. I'll have a vid up eventually, but I just tuned mine today with sliders and it's working much better than with rollers.
Thanks a lot man your video was very help fuck and the starter works I didn't know you had to hold the brake nub problems thanks again man
Yeah it is me thank you
good video
Thanks.
I just drimmeled slots into the studs on my carb, and it is now unsealed, but i think that buying one that is made to be taken apart is smarter. I decided to start with a melosi, polini, or other performance cvt front pulley, with sliders, and a better belt, but i had a bando stock and it is still good. Maybe just get a backup since i know it will eventually wear, or save the decent one i have for a backup and get the performance out of the new one. I hear that the gates grip better? Which CVT?
What do you recommend that i do for my performance? I am looking to be able to go 50 without being full throttle all of the time, and easily reach 45 on flat ground a bit faster. I have thought about the 72cc bore kit and a bigger carb, along with a new CDI. Maybe the 80cc is far better? Not sure, from what i have seen the 72cc is enough for what i want but i am not sure who to buy it from or what to adjust along with it?
Just bought a tao tao quantum, wish you would do a 150 tutorial!
Congrats on the new scoot! They are actually quite similar in many ways. Most of the stuff you see in this video should apply, other than specifics about panel removal/install and a few other details.
First i want to say i follow your videos thank you for then i been learning allot. So I got a question I got a 80cc bigbore kit installed in my 2017 chinise tao tao atm50 scooter. If i take the vacum holes off would it make it faster I really am thankfull for everything thank you.
Taking the vac hose off would not make it faster. Could make it not run at all or run poorly if you create vac leaks or don't supply the vac petcock with a vac source. Thanks for watching!
hi I'm new to this.. I have a 2008 Tomberlin Rcx 250cc. My canister is only hooked up to one thing an that is the muffler.. Can I disconnect it, and cover the hole with a piece of metal??? I don't need the emissions where I live... Also I took the panels off and replaced the carb. During that time I removed the radiator cap to get the air fiter connector out... After I finished I replaced the cap, and I started it. I noticed that the temp arm hadn't moved... I've taken everything apart again and I haven't been able to find anything that was unhooked except for one plug but it doesn't go to anything... If can help I would really appreciate it... If you need me to I'll do a video and post it so you can see the things I'm talking about....
+Kenise Hamilton Sometimes there are connectors that never had a mate from the factory, so that's not necessarily the issue. I'm not really familiar with 250s, but look around the head or radiator for a temp sensor and make sure it's connected.
Just Bought a GY6 performance carb for my scoot, begins to cut out after holding wide-open for a min, has a pod air filter on it, runs fine 1-80% throttle.. never made any adjustments and I’m at 700 ft, above sea level.
Might put my stock airbox back on…
You need a larger main jet.
Can I just adjust the idle speed and leave the enricher alone or if I tune one do I have to tune the other?
You can adjust just one. They perform separate functions, but I prefer to work with both together unless I'm just trying to correct an idle speed that's slightly off.
Quick question when I turn my key I have no electricity on the bike but when I kick start it I have all my lights on and the started even try's to engage but if I turn it off and turn the key I have no electricity again is it that my started is must up? Also is it bad to use it with just kick start all the time? Don't play on riding just would like to know if it hurts the bike to kick start it a lot
Inchyladas Dead battery? Blown fuse?
Kick starting shouldn't hurt the engine, but some kick starters are poorly designed and may break in short order. The 139QMB is not a good one and breaks frequently.
+90GTVert good catch, already have had to service my kick starter, lucky for me it wasnt broken but just all of the grease dried up and it got a little funky , just took it apart ,stretched the retaining clip back and added some synthetic brake caliper grease to it and it's better than it was .. probably gonna have to do that every so often .
I just purchased the same scooter. And I started the scooter, I let it run for a minute then I accidentally pressed the starter button and heard a loud metal noise. Scooter starts normal and runs normal. Just wondering if there's any potential hidden damage that may appear later.
Sounds like you engaged the starter. As long as no teeth are damaged on the bendix or front pulley or starter, it's fine. Most likely you will be fine, especially just a brief accidental tap of the button.
my scooter can 80% assembled I put everything the right way and I finally got the scooter to turn on but unless I hold the gas it cuts off the battery seems to work fine because all my lights stay on is that normal for the scooter to cut off in the beginning
You might want to try adjusting the idle mixture and speed and see if that helps.
90GTVert Yes it worked. thanx so much. god bless. u just got a new follower !!!
So my back brake makes a squickie noise when i use oit to stop. today is only my second day with it. can u give me adive
Pretty common. You can take the wheel off and go over the drum and shoes with emery cloth and then clean with brake parts cleaner and see if that does it.
should you expect air to blow from around the fan shroud?
It should be pulling air in on the fan side and pushing it through toward the CVT side.
If my scoot is dying after I rev, what is that indicative of? It starts up fine, a little slow, and when I rev, it either dies, or picks up then dies after trying to return to idle.
Possibly a fuel issue. Have you made any changes... removed the airbox or anything like that? If so, go back to the stock configuration and see how it does. If not I'd consider cleaning the carb and making sure the float is set properly. There's float info in the carb bit of this series and you can clean the carb by using compressed air and carb cleaner through all passages.
I had a similar issue on my 50cc it was the automatic choke faulty
Will it kickstart without an ignition
Carolyn Downs-Grossman: love your videos. I just bought a Tao Tao ATM50-A1, I'm having problem with the idle going fast then slow even after it's wormed up. how do I fix this.
Make sure you don't have vacuum leaks first. Check that carb, intake, hoses, etc.. are all secure. You can use a spray bottle to mist water around suspected leaks and see if engine speed changes.
@@49ccscoot Good afternoon: I didn't fined any leaks any where.
@@CarolynRDowns See if the auto-enricher is working as it should. Try adjusting the idle mixture to see if it improves. Carb cleaning may be in order. Valve lash check.
@@49ccscoot I've never worked on a Carb. So I have no Idea what your talking about. I haven't bought a book on this scooter yet.
@@49ccscoot Hi, I only found one adjustment for the Carb, it sounds better. I will check it tomorrow when it is cold, to see if it stays down after wormed up. Carolyn
I'd grease all mechanical cables and bought LED lights. You can even find the headlight bulb. Not expensive.
I hanged out the carb main jet to a 90 and 34 subject. The popping of the exhaust is gone, but know there is an issue where when going up hill there is no power. I even went full throttle but no increase in speed. What could be the issue? Thanks for your help
+Mike Wong It's not gonna have lots of power for hills, so is this a brand new issue on a hill you've tackled before?
its a new issue. There is no increase of power when adding more gas from 1/2 throttle. I currently change it to the point where the main jet is 85 and the pilot is 34. I am having a issue where the scooter is very lean again. I tried adjusting the fuel mixture and going all the way in the engine dies. But when going counter clockwise all the way out it seems that engine is gaining speed. I turned more than 4 turns counter clockwise. Thanks.
The idle circuit has minimal effect on the 1/2 throttle and up operation. If you have a problem 1/2 throttle and beyond, first go through a tuning process for the main jet. I've posted it before, but look at the carburetor section for lots of info : www.49ccscoot.com/faq/faq.html The reason I keep posting it, is because I believe this is the next step. As I've said, I don't really like just swapping in a jet and calling it done, no matter if I or anyone else thinks it's a good jet. I always tune, not swap.
do you have a email where I can send pics?
Your best bet is to join the forum and post a thread there. There are lots of people that can help there and it's easy to post pics. 49ccscoot.proboards.com
If your automatic starter doesn't engage what could be the problem ???
Inchyladas It could be quite a few things. If it doesn't work at all, it's most likely electrical. If it spins but doesn't actually rotate the engine over or if you hear it click as if it's trying the turn the engine over but cannot, it could be the bendix is no good or not installed properly. There is some info in this link that I think may be of use to you :
49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/647/start-troubleshooting?page=1
I have a full battery but the electricals don't work after attaching the ground and ignition to the battery. Could you let me know what potentials I could have and how to solve them?
The most common issue is the fuse. Sometimes there's none in the holder or it's not installed properly. I'd look there first.
I bought one and it's not firming up quickly
hi, so I removed my spark plug today and I saw the upper thread soaked in oil. What is the problem. When I put in another spark plug and ran wot on it, the tip of the spark plug turns white. Also can a loose spark plug cause oil on thread. when starting the scooter it had a hard time starting since I put the spark plug in the wrong place. The engine would smell like it is burning. Please help thanks.
+Mike Wong Residue around the top thread doesn't worry me a lot. If it's a 2T even less. Sorry, but with posting in random places I have a hard time keeping track of what's what. White means hot and/or lean. Where did you put the spark plug before? If you damaged the threads and it's loose that would cause even more residue on the threads and potentially a compression leak.
So there is another change today. I removed the spark plug again today after my ride and I noticed the tip of the spark covering up some of the white spots. The circle part is dark and the white thing in the middle surrounding the ignitor is getting black too. Not all black but half black and half white. The black is dry and not white. Does it mean that the scooter is a little bit rich since its dry. Thanks mike
Last things I have notices: When trying to rev it, it revs but dies after when idling. Idle is good. Muffler is making a single pop sound after releasing throttle. Thanks for your help
The pop is a backfire, probably from being too lean.
so what are your recommendation on fixing the back fire?
Question , do you have to adjust the throttle cable or just idle and mixture on carburetor
Feel the throttle. If the slack feels OK to you, you don't need to adjust the cable.
@@49ccscoot okay thanks , I'm bout to do the mixture on my scooter where do I have to turn
@@merjimjimenez1361 7:06
@@49ccscoot on the throttle I can adjust back to where it was before right
@@merjimjimenez1361 What you can do if you want to make sure you have a point to return to if things don't work out well, is count the amount of turns it takes to turn the idle speed and mix screws in before you change their settings. So if it takes say 2 turns to turn the mix screw in, then turn it back out 2 turns to return it to it's initial setting. If you adjust it and don't like the result as well as how it started out, then you can turn the screw all the way in and 2 turns (or whatever you had) out and it will be back to how it started. Write/note this info somewhere.
Any onegot any idea why my low beam might not be working I did not assemble mine
Check for power to the low beam + terminal. If that's present, probably just the bulb.
@@49ccscoot thank you
@@49ccscoot i used my multimeter and tested both high and low beam and they were both good so I got a new bulb going to install it tomorrow
@@yachaleef9288 Nice. Simple fix hopefully.
Sorry the relay sounds like it's working when I push it
My scooter cuts off when I give it full throttle
Make sure the main jet is clean and airbox installed and in good condition.
I need help 😭🥺
After I adjusted the mixture n test on the road my scooter runs pretty slow I'd say going bout 25 mph
Is this the first ride or just a test after mixture adjustment?
@@49ccscoot nope been rode moped for long time just never mess doing that until today
@@merjimjimenez1361 Step one of the process was to turn the screw in and count how many turns till it lightly seated so you could return to the starting point if needed. If you did that, then just put it back to where it started. If that doesn't make it run like it did, something else is up. It may not be related to the adjustment. Could be something simple like a hose or wire was disconnected in the process of working on the scoot.
@@49ccscoot should I turn the idle first today I was going 25 not gaining speed
@@merjimjimenez1361 If you adjusted the mixture and immediately after it changed from running well to going slow, then I would start by setting it back to where it was. Idle mixture adjustment rarely has this sort of effect though.
