    First of all, I can't thank you enough for putting together such a high quality and comprehensive video series on getting these scooters assembled. I've beed doing a lot of research on this topic these last few days, as I've just bought the exact same model as yours, and I was hoping I could get your take on another scooter mechanic's two cents: I can't include a link in this comment, but google "real life chinese scooter mechanic here" (Continued in next comment...)

    I do not claim to be an oil expert, but I can tell you that 10W40 and 15W40 work well for the vast majority of Chinese scooter owners. It's always worked well for me. I prefer full synthetic, but just to save a few dollars because I'll change it so often when I mod things I use the Shell Rotella shown and buy it by the gallon or 2.5gal container.

    It's the same gasket that's on this video with the belt you know you take the cover off to tighten the gears that gasket but right on bro thank man you been a big help with my scooter

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 9 lety

      Inchyladas Definitely get the gasket kit for that. It'll prob cost just about as much for that 1 lg gasket as for all of them. That said, the gasket is not there to stop oil from leaking. There is not supposed to be oil in your CVT so you either have a bad crank or drive shaft seal or possibly the seal on the chain tensioner bolt. Clean it up and take a brief ride and see if you can tell where it's coming from.

    As you can see, most of what he has to say aligns neatly with what you go over in this series, but you do seem at odds on two points. First, he swears by 5W-50 oil, and you have a different recommendation. And second, he stresses changing out the stock drive belt with a Gates Powerlink Belt, and you make no mention of replacing the belt. I was actually surprised, as you go so far as to recommend changing out stock nuts, so I figured something as fundamental as the drive belt...

    I can't even get that cover off of my scooter. I tried to get it off because my kickstarter is broken. I used an 8mm socket wrench and those hex bolts just wouldn't budge. For some reason I also had some slippage with the 8mm and did t want to strip the bolts but it looks like they have some wear.

      That's what all of the short cases should use. Bando belts are a good choice IMO. Stay away from no-name cheap Chinese belts. I have used them on different scoots and they always broke very prematurely.... like some within 10 miles.

    I think I know the answer, but how important is the engine/fan shroud? Is it more effective than having an open design with the panel under the seat removed? I’m thinking it’s a vital component, but I wish I could remove it.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 5 lety +1

      Vitally important. These are designed for cooling by a fan, not by airflow from movement. They will heat up rapidly if used without shrouds and/or the fan. Look at the way fins are oriented on this engine vs most open air cooled engines for one reason why.

      Thanks for the insight. You’re a legend in the scooter community and I appreciate your videos. So I just upgraded to a 47mm bbk with an A9 camshaft and stock head for high compression. I’m betting that you’ve done a similar setup. The 90 main jet and 4.75g sliders worked perfectly from your other video with the stock engine. If you have done a similar setup, can I ask what main jet and sliders you ended up with?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 5 lety +1

      @@ANONYMOUS-ex2bp A lot of people end up around 6-8g. Even though ~5g is good for many stock 139QMBs and I'm glad it worked for you, I always recommend tuning. Good news is that you can probably add some weight to what you've got to see how it works before buying anything. czcams.com/video/YkNhqEFeWVQ/video.html

    Hey,
    I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with my scooter tao tao atm50-a1. I press the starter button with my brand new battery, and it tries to start but the back cvt just makes a spinning/grinding noise without the engine starting. Sometimes it works and other times it just sounds like it can't catch anything and it's slipping. What do you think could be the problem? Do I need to take apart the cvt assembly? If you can help at all, I'd really appreciate it.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 6 lety

      You'll probably need to take the CVT cover off and look at the bendix. That's what engages to let the starter turn the engine. Sometimes bushings that it sits in get worn and it has too much play and sometimes the bendix kinda sticks.

  • @49ccscoot
    @49ccscoot  Před 11 lety

    For the belt, my stock one didn't show accelerated signs of wear. I do put more faith in other belts. I prefer Bando, some like Gates. Bando has treated me better on higher powered scoots so I stick with them. There are some Chinese belts, especially the ones you can find for say $10-15 normally, that are really junk. I've destroyed them in under 10 miles on 40MPH scoots. Total junk, stay away, change it out immediately if you have one.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 9 lety

      Inchyladas I'm not sure exactly what gasket and screw you are referring to. I think for gaskets your best deal is to get one of the complete sets on eBay. Should be able to find them looking for 139QMB gasket set or something like that. Not too expensive and you'll have spares for any other repairs you may need to do. You'll probably need to extract the screw. If it's sticking up then grab it with vise grips and turn it out. If not you'll prob have to use a left hand drill bit or screw extractor.

    Hi again I have one last qn. I bought a 669 18 30 belt. It just doesn’t fit and when I checked my stock belt it was the same size. I have seen plenty of videos where people just fit it in really easily. I can barely fit it. Should I just go with a 729, it works fine but makes a weird sound.

    • @Machinezzzs
      @Machinezzzs Před 6 lety

      Noise that tells me the belts touching something inside.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 6 lety

      A proper belt should fit at or near the drive boss up front while at or near the edge of the rear pulley without slack. Not being stretched, but not loose. Too long and there will be slack which can give poor takeoffs and possibly could come off of the pulleys.

    Do you have any suggestions for me as to how I can get those hex bolts out of there? Why are they so hard to turn, do they have loc tite on them?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 10 lety

      I'd start with a socket that doesn't slip. None of mine have been loctited, but it's not out of the question. If you have a socket that doesn't slip, give the ratchet a bump with your palm instead of just applying pressure. Might break them loose.
